This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hello Class of 2024 Applicants! This is the Student Services Office for the College of Veterinary Medicine. As you begin the application process, leave any questions you may have here and we will do our best to get them answered. You are also encouraged to review admissions requirements at the NC State CVM web site.
Hi!
Does it hurt to say "undecided" on the new supplemental application question? I'm interested in more than one area even though I'm leaning towards small animal medicine (I might want to do research on the side too or something like that!) so I'm not sure if it would make a difference to say undecided or small animal?

Your professional area of interest at the time of application is a personal choice. We always recommend that applicant's use both the VMCAS personal statement prompt #1 and the NC State supplemental essays to support the response provided.

UPDATE

Please note that NC State will only review submissions from applicants who have completed both the VMCAS and NC State supplemental applications.

This is a reminder that the NC State Supplemental Application is due on Monday, September 30th at 11:59PM EDT. We recommend that you do not wait until the last minute to submit your application because we will have limited availability to troubleshoot issues after 5:00PM.

Access to the supplemental application has been emailed to everyone who submitted the VMCAS application on or before September 17th. The email would have come from: [email protected]. If you believe you have not received it, please check your spam folder prior to contacting our office.

In regards to the one additional question that was added to the application: If you submitted your supplemental application before September 24th, please go back in and answer the additional question that was added and resubmit. It is a multiple choice question that can be answered very quickly.

Our office will not be confirming receipt of application materials until after the supplemental application deadline. This process can take several weeks. You can confirm that your supplemental application has been submitted by going to: applynds.ncsu/apply and logging in. We respectfully request that you do not send additional emails or phone calls requesting confirmation of your application materials.

If you have any questions or concern, please let us know.

Thank you for applying to NC State!

Anybody else's supplemental application checklist look wonky? Each row is the same evaluator.

Where can you find this? It doesn’t look familiar to me...
Never mind, I found it haha... yeah, it’s strange. All my evaluators are on there multiple times, with the first time saying “not received” and the rest saying “received.” Very odd...

That is how the rest of my evaluators are listed as well. Looks like it’s the application then. Ngl, I panicked a little when I opened up the supplemental application today, because I saw an “x” and thought my app was incomplete. :’(

Has anybody received a "receipt of credentials" email yet?

According to the timeline on their website, today is the day that RoCs for IS are scheduled to start coming out. Given the ~15 day delay from this timeline in their supplemental application deadline, I would imagine they may delay RoCs because they have a huge amount of applications that, by the looks of their final update posts, were submitted on the last day (9/30). Hopefully, this eases your anxiety or worry a bit.

Just got a receipt of credentials! I's OOS -- not sure if that has anything to do with timing, but I received it this morning 🙂

I received my IS receipt this morning as well!

For ISS, will our fall 2019 transcript be used by the committee when reviewing our applications? Or will they just look at it to make sure we’re getting the prereqs done?

I received the email indicating that my residency status would expire before Fall 2020. I submitted a reconsideration and RDS confirmed my status today. Do I need to email the confirmation to NCSU-CVM or will it automatically update on my application? Thank you!

It depends on the timing of our review cycle. Ideally, it will be used for both.

Our Student Information System is designed to receive updates from RDS directly. However, if you want, you can send confirmation to: [email protected]

VMCAS Application Cycle Opens January 22, 2020 (share with Pre-Vet Clubs)

In a significant departure from past practice, the Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS) 2020/21 application cycle will open on January 22, 2020 and close on September 15, 2020. The cycle typically opens in May.

The change has been undertaken to make the process more convenient for applicants and provide them with more time to complete the various components of the application process, according to AAVMC Director of Admissions and Recruitment Affairs Diana Dabdub.

While the annual VMCAS application cycle is normally active for about four months, most applicants typically wait until the last minute to complete their applications. For example, during the 2018-19 cycle, 6,470 (79.4%) applicants waited until September to submit their applications, with 45% of applicants submitting during the final week.

The rush of activity at the end of the cycle condenses the time available for applicants to seek support and assistance and compile the various materials required for a complete application.

New this year, applicants will be able to begin compiling their application without needing to select a specific college or school. Specifically, they will be able to enter coursework, request letters of recommendation, and request transcripts.

On May 12, 2020, the veterinary schools will become available for applicants to select. At this time, applicants will be allowed to formally submit applications.

People will still submit last minute. It's the nature of the beast. This is going to likely just prolong the anxiety. haha
I already know I’m going to submit mine last minute so I can maximize the experience I can put on it! It’s totally terrifying that it’s opening so soon but hopefully having more time to start it will make it less stressful.

The problem I see with it is that now people will be thinking "I should be working on my app" with everything else they are doing and those thoughts creep into every moment of life until deadline. It is exhausting to have that weight for so long. I don't think more time is going to help anything and will cause more strife than good just do to the mental game behind it.

It is highly recommended to apply at least one month before the deadline. It gives an applicant time to rectify any issues with the submission of LORs, transcripts and GRE scores. If you wait until the deadline, there is no time to resolve problems.

NC State doesn't extend the timeline or offer exceptions to the deadline.

We see these issues every year so we strongly encourage all applicants to consider our advice.

If I'm OOS when can I expect to receive confirmation that I met the minimum requirements?

I received mine 10/21 and they recently sent and email saying they hope to send out emails to non-residents about decisions by the end of December. I feel like you should have gotten a receipt of credentials email already.

The receipt of credentials e-mail was sent on October 21. The Student Services Office completed the initial review of OOS applications last week. If an applicant didn't meet admissions criteria, he or she received an e-mail disqualifying them from the 2020 cycle. If an applicant did meet admissions criteria, the application was moved forward to the next stage of review without e-mail correspondence to the OOS applicant pool.

Thank you both! So, no news is good news - I was not disqualified (I just got overwhelmed with the nitty gritty of calculating the various GPAs so I wasn't sure if mine would make the cut). I did get the email about the welcome weekend but I'll be interviewing at Virginia, and possibly Colorado, so that weekend is booked!

Anyone else receive an email about the OOS welcome weekend? In the email it said that they are aiming to have OOS decisions sent out by the end of December. This kind of confused me considering I had seen it would be Janurary 31 and I thought the due date for fall transcripts was in February. The transcript isn't a concern for me because I will send it as soon as grades are final and I have all my pre-reqs done anyways.

Also confused about this email, but for a different reason. They said decisions (deny or interview invite) would go out by the end of December, but the Welcome weekend is for accepted or waitlisted OOS students. Are they going to have interviews concluded and decisions made within less than 3 weeks? Seems off.

NCSU has released admissions decisions in late December these past two or so years, despite the timeline sheet on their website saying otherwise.

NC State doesn't conduct interviews in the admissions process.
