Hello Class of 2024 Applicants! This is the Student Services Office for the College of Veterinary Medicine. As you begin the application process, leave any questions you may have here and we will do our best to get them answered. You are also encouraged to review admissions requirements at the NC State CVM web site.

VMCAS 2020 - Notes and Updates
- Launch is May 9th, 2019 and Deadline is September 17, 2019
- VMCAS is offering its applicants the option to use the "Professional Transcript Entry" (PTE) function this year. PTE provides coursework entry by Liaison on behalf of the applicant. Once complete, the applicant approves the entry and the application is then verified. This option will only be available until September 1st, 2019.

When does the supplemental application open?

We are targeting July 1.

The CVM is attempting to use new admissions software, Slate, to fall into alignment with the rest of the university.

We need some extra time for design and testing. Thank you for your patience.

NC State's biggest feeder states, outside of North Carolina, for applicants over the last four admissions cycles are:

1. Florida - 380
2. Pennsylvania - 241
3. New York - 236
4. California - 224
5. Texas - 193

Hello! I'm applying this cycle, and I'm planning on enrolling in Oklahoma State's animal nutrition course online this fall semester. When entering course and transcript information, should I add Oklahoma State to my colleges attended (even though I haven't enrolled yet) and add that I'm planning on taking animal nutrition in the fall, or should I leave it out entirely?
Thank you!

Add it so schools know you’re planning on taking it vs having no plans (to their knowledge) to fulfill a prerequisite.

The question, "Will you have two or fewer prerequisites outstanding in the spring semester of the admissions cycle?", is a little confusing to me. I will have no outstanding prerequisites, so my answer should be yes? Since zero is less than two? I selected no last year (even though I had no outstanding then either) because I thought yes would mean that I did have outstanding prereqs.

0 is less than 2. They likely have that question if 2 is the maximum number they allow to be in progress that semester so they don’t waste time on applications that don’t even meet their basic qualifications.

Please add it as a course that is "planned." We need to know that you are planning on taking a prerequisite. If an applicant doesn't acknowledge the prerequisite, we assume he or she doesn't know the requirements and we move to disqualify the application. The applicant receives an e-mail that the application is disqualified.

An application should answer "Yes" to the following questions.

Will you have 400 hours or more of veterinary experience at the time of application?
Will you have achieved a "C-" or better in prerequisites at the time of application?
Will you have achieved the minimum GPA standards (or alternative eligibility standards if a NC Resident) at the time of application?
Will you have two or fewer prerequisites outstanding in the spring semester of the admissions cycle?

If an applicant answers "No" to one or more of the questions, he or she shouldn't apply because the application will be disqualified.

NC State has received the following number of applications from North Carolina residents over the last four admissions cycles:

2016 - 212
2017 - 189
2018 - 244
2019 - 275

This represents a 45.5% increase from 2017 to 2019.

IMPORTANT UPDATE for 2020 ADMISSIONS CYCLE
If you plan on applying to NC State for the 2020 admissions cycle, please note the following process change.

Applicants will only be able to access the NC State supplemental application following both the submission of the VMCAS application and it moving to the "Complete" or "Verified" stage at the VMCAS level. Therefore, it is recommended that you submit your application by August 15 in order to allow processing time by VMCAS. Please take all parts of the application into consideration (application, fee, transcripts, letters of recommendation, GRE scores, etc.)

So to verify, in order to access the supplemental application I need to have submitted and paid for the VMCAS, my evaluators need to have submitted their letters, and all test scores/transcripts need to be received?

Does having more than 3 Letters of Recommendation help or hurt your application? I'm trying to decide how many people to ask. Also, do all of the LOR need to be in to submit the VMCAS, in order to have access to the NC State supplemental application?

They only require 3 and they state that they would "prefer" to only get 3. For what it's worth, I asked for and sent only 3 letters, but I made sure that they were very strong letters. Do what they prefer.

Why are they doing it this way?
Perhaps because of the increasing number of applicants. Also, I would imagine that it filters out all of those who would be automatically rejected so that they don't have to use up their resources.

IMPORTANT UPDATE for 2020 ADMISSIONS CYCLE #2

We are in the process of updating the supplemental application. The application should be ready the first full week of August.

In order to receive access to the supplemental application, your VMCAS application will need to be submitted and paid with a "received" status. We made this change because we recognized that not everyone will have a "complete" status by the application deadline. All applicants who submit their VMCAS application by September 17th at 11:59pm will receive access to the supplemental application.

You can expect to receive access to the supplemental application within approximately 48 hours of submitting your VMCAS application

Furthermore, we have extended the NC State supplemental application deadline to September 30, 2019 at 1:00pm EDT.

All supplemental applications must be received by the deadline.

Please plan accordingly.

We appreciate your patience during this transition.

How long can we expect to wait after submitting our VMCAS for NCSU to email us with the supplemental application?

Once the supplemental application is ready, it should take approximately 48 hours to receive it after submitting the VMCAS application.

IMPORTANT UPDATE for 2020 ADMISSIONS CYCLE #3

The supplemental application is now open. Any VMCAS application at the Received/Complete/Verified stages will receive access to it. Already submitted VMCAS applications should have access to it. All new VMCAS applications will receive access in approximately 48 hours after moving to one of the three stages mentioned.

Contact our office if you have any issues at: [email protected]

We thank you for your patience.

ADMISSIONS TIPS
1. Use your legal name on the application and all documentation.
2. Update our office if your contact information changes at any point in the admissions cycle.
3. Check your E-Mail and SPAM filter often.
4. E-mail NC State with any questions at: [email protected]

Just to clarify, aside from the essays on the VMCAS application there will be additional essays as well as an additional fee on the supplemental application that is sent to us after submission of the VMCAS app. Right?

There are a number of additional essays and paperwork type questions on the supplemental essay. I would HIGHLY recommend you get access and get started as soon as possible...

The supplemental application consists of essays, fee payment, listing the courses you are submitting in fulfillment of the prerequisites, campus safety questionnaire, military information (if applicable), residency information (additional time needed if requesting NC residency), and brief demographic information.

I am not seeing the fee payment option on the supplemental application. Where is it located on the supplemental app?

Once an applicant completes all of the sections of the application, the last page gives the link to finalize the application and pay.

I'm working on entering my prerequisites and I noticed that two semesters of organic chemistry lab are required, but my school only offers one. What should I do?

The NC State DVM Program requires eight (8) credits of organic chemistry. If you completed a 3-3-2 sequence, just list the two (2) credit lab under one of the lectures.

Hi everyone! 1st time IS applicant! NCSU has been my dream school for years... I can't believe it's finally time!

The supplemental application is not due until 9/30, correct?
The NC State supplemental application deadline is Monday, September 30, 2019 at 11:59pm EDT.

Please note that Student Services staff will be available until 5pm EDT that day to answer questions. Therefore, it is advised that you don't wait until the last seven hours to submit the supplemental application.

Also, all VMCAS applications and supporting documents must meet today's deadline.

VMCAS DEADLINE ADVISORY: VMCAS will have extended hours tonight to accommodate the last minute service calls.

At 11:59:59 PM, the VMCAS application and evaluation portal will close and will not accept any additional information submitted to VMCAS.

We've received a number of inquiries this week regarding the application and deadline. To summarize:

1. Yes, NC State does have a supplemental application. Information about the supplemental application is found on our website, on our page in the VMCAS portal, and has been sent to applicants through WebAdmit several times since July. If you're just discovering this week that veterinary schools have supplemental applications, it may be best to wait until the next admissions cycle to apply in order to familiarize yourself with admissions requirements.

2. The NC State supplemental application deadline is Monday, September 30, 2019 at 11:59pm EDT. Student Services staff will be available until 5pm EDT that day to answer questions. Therefore, it is advised that you don't wait until the last seven hours to submit the supplemental application in case you have a question or require assistance.

3. Applicants gain access to the supplemental after submitting the VMCAS application. NC State will give access to applications in the following stages: Received, Complete and Verified.

NC State has 1,337 applications in VMCAS (125 Received, 430 Complete, and 782 verified).

However, only 317 have submitted and paid for the supplemental application.

Please note that NC State will only review submissions from applicants who have completed both the VMCAS and NC State supplemental applications.

The NC State supplemental application deadline is Monday, September 30, 2019 at 11:59pm EDT.

Just to confirm, as an OOS student your application will not be looked at if you don't have a minimum of a 3.4 in all three categories of Cumulative, Pre-req, and Last 45 GPA? I have higher in both cumulative and Last 45, but my pre-req is at a 3.3. Should I not even bother doing the supplemental?

I am 98% sure that you must have a 3.4 GPA in all three GPA categories. A coworker of mine had applied to NCSU last year. She was rejected, because her cumulative GPA was just under the 3.4 GPA minimum.

The GPA for all three GPA categories must meet or exceed a 3.40 for non-resident applicants. We do not round. Applicants are informed of this requirement on the NC State CVM website and in the VMCAS Portal. Exceptions to this requirement are not considered.
