Nice! I remember you as well and thanks for the drive to the bus stop by the ways! SoaringWish and eagle223, will see you at NYCOM this summer hopefully!

Congrats!!! I was morning, how about yourself?

Afternoon session of interviews...I spoke to a few people from the morning session but I forgot everyone's names! I was wearing a green dress. Not sure that will help! Haha.

there is a link on page 7 i think of this thread. Also, they changed the name to NYIT-COM Class of 2017

Does anyone know the statistics for DPC as far as ratio of applied:accepted. I have to make a choice between some schools and I love NYIT-COM but the DPC program might be a deal breaker for me with the tuition. Thanks!

Congrats everyone on your acceptance!
If anyone has any questions, feels free to ask.

is it too late to still be hoping for an interview spot?

When did you apply?

From reading the countless experiences that people went through during the medical school admission process, I see that anything can happen. But usually, if it gets into March and you still haven't been offered an interview than you could safely assume it isn't going to happen.

Accepted from the 01/29 interview! Now trying to decide between here and UNE? ahhh

I think ShyRem may give you a lot of perspective on UNE if you message her.
Good luck with your decision!

I have a question for current 1st and 2nd years. Are any of you planning on taking both the COMLEX and USMLE exams? How does NYCOM help you prepare for the COMLEX? Like extra study time, prep course, tutors..etc. I am not sure if many schools offer that stuff but I was just wondering.

I am taking both the USMLE and COMLEX in June. NYCOM provides "back to basics" sessions which are brief overviews of material that was covered previously that is board relevant. They are taught by our professors, but there are only a handful. Aside from that you are basically on your own. Classes end on May 7th for us so I'll put a solid, intense 4 weeks in before my exam (I've already begun studying, I'm not going to cram it all in in those 4 weeks).

As far as OMM goes, however, much of 2nd year builds on the concepts from first year and a lot of the techniques from the previous year are reviewed again, so throughout 2nd year you are refreshing your memory for a lot of OMM techniques which does come in handy for boards.

For current students, do you live/know anyone who lives in Brooklyn/Queens and how the commute has been for them? I kind of want to do that so I can still be near the city(family/friends/gf live there).

They just called me today to ask for fall quarter grades (interviewed end of January)...should I be worrying big time?

I commute from Queens everyday. It's super easy to drive out.

Are you from the bayside area ? How long does it usually take to get to school ? I'm looking to live close to the bridge. Significant other will need to commute.

Yea that is what I want to do. Do you know anyone coming from Brooklyn? Maybe even closer to Williamsburg area? I just want to be as close to the city as possible but with a relatively easy commute to school.

Any future interviewees: Might want to think about what animal or color represents you.

been complete here for many months now with my GPAs between 3.4-3.5 (sGPA>cGPA) and a 27 (10p/8v/9b)

Really hoping for something, but I am OOS with some ties to the state from ECs and internship. I wonder if they are no longer looking for interviewees

I got an interview invite today!! Best of luck to all of you out there still waiting...there's hope 🙂

It is hilarious how you answer this question could affect the rest of your life. I wonder which of our DOs thought that up...

For any NYCOM current students or any person that may have some insight...why does NYCOM do their white coat ceremony for second year students instead of for the first year students as most schools do?

They do? That sucks

They want to make the white coat a symbol for their hard work through all the science courses.

IMO, since so many leave by 2nd year, it is a congratulations for staying at their school.

I think Touro-ny students don't get one until after 2nd year.

Actually makes a lot of sense, initiation into clinical years. But since MD schools have established doing it at the start, this makes getting into a DO school really anti-climactic lol.

Does anyone know if other DO schools do this?

You do get a "white coat" the first week of school with the school's patch on the sleeve. You get a higher quality coat with your name embroidered at the white coat ceremony the summer after second year. As was mentioned above, this is a sort of 'graduation" from pre-clinical education. I don't see this as a negative at all.... getting thru the preclinical years is a daunting challenge, and from what I understand (I'm a second year so haven't gotten mine just yet) the ceremony is very nice... at a nice country club and an all around positive experience that serves to mark your transition and accomplishments to that point.

Additionally, there is very little need for being concerned about when you get your white coat as you arent going to be using it until third year anyways (except for standardized patients and robotics which are relatively few in number)

Is there anyway to try and get an II? A update email? My stats are 3.3 GPA and 33 MCAT

Update emails are always good. I would suggest it considering it's getting pretty late. But NYCOM started late in the process and has a huge class so it's possible. I have same stats as you. When did you apply/how's everything else in your app?

Anybody hear anything? I applied in December and haven't heard anything. 3.67,3.5,29s...

I had my interview on 1/22 and still haven't heard back. Anyone from that interview date still waiting for an answer?

Hi guys, I have an interview here soon, was just wonder how the day is going to be? Is everything pretty relaxed? Do we have some free time with current students, and what kind of interview and how many interviews do we have?

Thanks in advance

You get there and sit and wait in a small waiting area with about 10 people. Then have lunch during presentation of the school, etc. Then you get a tour. Then interviews. You get 1 interview. It is all pretty relaxed.

Has anyone received confirmation of their deposit? I sent mine over a week ago... it's due tomorrow ,and it hasn't been taken out of my bank account. I called yesterday, and the woman I spoke to said that they were opening deposit letters yesterday and hadn't gotten to mine yet. Anyone else?

I sent mine on Tuesday and I just called because I was nervous that if they didn't receive it they'd kick me out! She said they are going through all of the checks that they have received and will be sending out (via snail mail) immunization forms, DPC applications, etc.

Received my confirmation today...Sent out the deposit on Feb 7th

In State applicant, 3.5gpa 27 mcat, secondary submitted early January. Nothing back from NYCOM still... It's getting very close to March already and I've been hearing that nothing by March usually means rejection... What should I do at this point?

Accepted Today 2/21/13. Interviewed 2/6/13. Very excited, good luck to people still waiting to hear back!

You could call the school to see "if they have reviewed your application" or something like that which will force them to look at your application. Could you also provide an update maybe?
