Did anyone started doing their applications for the DPC? How do they expect us to type/print on the paper that was sent to us... ?_?
I was thinking to draft it on microsoft word and then handwrite on to the paper...

I think it is awesome that nyit starts so late compared to other schools. Get to enjoy the whole summer before starting!

Were the DPC applications included in the acceptance letter?.. because I did not receive anything about that in mine.

I got it after I sent in my deposit. The DPC application, health forms and my receipt of the 1500 deposit were together.

Hi! I am interviewing on Thursday, and I was looking back over the posts and see how people described older interviews. Would anyone care to elaborate on how the more recent interviews have been? I am nervous because I'd really like to go here and I haven't interviewed in a few months! I appreciate your help. Thanks everyone!

II today! I never filled out my secondary and kind of forgot about NYCOM...

oos, 3.3gpa, 27mcat, tons of extracurriculars/experience/volunteering

any thoughts on NYCOM vs LECOM- Erie (accepted there) before I do (pay for) my secondary and decide whether or not to take the interview?

So...you're not a medical student.

oops... hahaha I think I got really excited when I was accepted changed it. But if it is really that bothersome I can change it back :)

no not at all. I would just be curious if you are already a med student somewhere and maybe restarting school or something happened of that sort.

I have a similar concern... Any thoughts on umdnj som. vs nycom

Does anyone have information on post-interview SOP? Is it up to the interviewer's leisure to hand in his analysis to the committee? I interviewed back in January (which went as well as an interview can go) and I just called adcom today and the woman stated that the committee has yet to review my file. Stats 31, 3.6c, 3.76s +++ECs blah blah etc etc.

I had the same debate 2 years ago. I was originally wait listed at UMDNJ but accepted to NYCOM. I had just paid for my apartment when I found out that I was accepted to UMDNJ. I had mentally prepared myself for making the decision that followed... I chose to go to NYCOM over UMDNJ. In a nut shell here's why.

It was a big selling point for me that NYCOM has a systems based curriculum, so you start learning "medicine" from the start rather than having to take individual classes such as histology, physiology, etc.... its all integrated into the system.

Additionally I believe that NYCOM has better rotation options FOR ME SPECIFICALLY. I want to do EM in an urban environment... NYCOM has affiliations with big urban centers and regional locations that appealed to me. Additionally it seems as tho UMDNJ's clinical cirriculum is more geared toward family medicine/primary care.... from what I have seen (correc tme if i'm wrong) UMDNJ's clinical rotations in 3rd year involved 6 weeks of IM and 6 weeks of Surg, and 12 weeks of Family medicine. NYCOM has 10 weeks each of IM and surg and only 4 weeks for FM. Again, this just suited me better,

I am happy with the decision I've made, the only negative is the cost of NYCOM. In the end go where you think you'll be happiest/have the best chance to succeed.

Gave up my spot here last week, so someone should get some love.

Good luck.

I just got an ii!! I'm so happy! I never thought I'd get one with my mcat score! 3.26c 3.21s 25O

Congratulations!!! I have been waiting to post the same since September :(
I wish you the best in your interview!

Finally! I received II in my email today. I thought my stats were bad since it's late late February. In state applicant, 3.49c 3.39s 27Q at the time of applying + decent extracurriculars. Interview date is so soon.

Hello all,

Interviewed today and wondering when I might hear anything...

Is there any kind of timeline from interview to when you get the good or bad news?

Thanks!

I interviewed in the beginning of January and was accepted in the beginning of February, so it would seem to me that you should expect to hear back in about a month.

NYCOM wasn't the school for me but I still think it's a great school...good luck!

Dang I'm jealous 3.3gpa and 33 mcat and no io yet -_- but I'm from Cali so I don't know

Anyone from the january 22nd interview still waiting to hear back?

Does anyone know when classes are going to start for class of 2017?

but fo realz..nycom starts later than most schools..usually mid/late august. I swear I found the start dates a week ago but I cannot find where I saw it. I remember seeing first day of orientation being 8/21

Is anyone aware of the acceptance rate after interviewing?
LOVED this school. Interviewed yesterday. Although it would stink to eat a $2,000 deposit at another school, I'm prepared to do so if I get in here.

Thanks for the help!

From what I have seen from previous years, it is quite high..like very high. I don't remember where the numbers are but I remember it being basically ii=acceptance So unless you really screw uop the interview, you fair a good chance.

That's what I thought, but there was a girl that I interviewed with yesterday who also interviewed last year, which is what threw me off. She was normal and nice and I doubt she messed up her interview last year. Time to wait for the decision (my least favorite part of this process!!!). Thanks!

She could have interviewed late, had a red flag on her file, or really sucks at interviews.

You will hear from them in 4-6 weeks..took about 4 weeks for me.

gmcguitar do you hold an acceptance here/are you matriculating here in the Fall? Ive been tracking you on SDN for a while but don't know where you've gotten in. I'm definitely applying next cycle, NYCOM is my top choice DO school :)

Does anyone that went through an interview here have any advice? I am interviewing this upcoming Wednesday!! So excited!! Does anyone know if it is open file or closed file?

The interview is open file and at least for me, I didn't find it stressful at all. My interviewer pretty much picked things from my application and secondary and asked me about them, such as an experience discussed in my personal statement, my involvement in a specific club, or a specific service activity. If you know your app you should be fine. Then he asked me maybe three other simple questions mostly relating to my interest in medicine and in NYCOM.

Overall the day was pretty quick and stress free. I think I was there for about 3 hrs and the interview was ~30 mins.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

The interview is so relaxed. I was asked about the basics of my education and experience. The majority of your day, just like every other school, is spent touring, asking student ambassadors questions, and a little presentation on school curriculum followed by a PBL demo. I was there for 4 hours total.
I literally think they just want to get a feel of what kind of person you are.
Good luck!

Thank you both for your responses! And I'm glad they do a PBL demo!

Congrats everyone on your acceptance!
If anyone has any questions, feels free to ask.
I am torn betwen DPC and regular program...what should i choose? i heard some bad/good about DPC....sooo??? anyone want to share their opinions?

I do hold an acceptance and I am 90% sure I am matriculating. I was waitlisted at Touro-ny so we shall see what happens with that. I live right near Touro so it might be a hard choice.

I have heard it is good/bad as well. It really all depends on how you like to study. I personally don't want to get stuck in a group of 8 for 2 years(what if they suck?) DPC you will be surrounding yourself with textbooks and finding resources to learn everything about the scenario you are working on. you also get patient exposure earlier. In lecture..it's a lecture. You have powerpoint slides and streaming lecture and learn by systems. I really is just about how you prefer to study. I would say the only advantage of DPC is earlier clinical experience. Advantages of lecture are more free time and more structure(if you like structure).

In State applicant, 3.5gpa 27 mcat, secondary submitted early January. Nothing back from NYCOM still... It's getting very close to March already and I've been hearing that nothing by March usually means rejection... What should I do at this point?
I'm in the same boat as you are.

Just wanted to let you guys know that i received my ii today 3/4/13 and interview is on 3/26/13. I submitted my secondary back in august. My stats are fine 3.7 Cgpa, 3.75 Sgpa, 30+ mcat, and OOS.

I wrote 3 letters of intent (yes i really want to go to this school).

Have you applied to any MD programs? With your stats, it seems you would have a decent shot at some schools. Why are you so into NYCOM?

Yes, i have applied to MD programs, and had interviews. And the reason why i am interested in NYIT-COM is because my spouse will be starting the PA program here in fall.

did anyone else here about St. barnabus hospital shut down it's rads residency program? screwed over all the curent residents. The worst part is the hospital kept all of the resident funding as well. Thought it would be important to know considering the hospital is affiliated with NYIT.

I keep hearing people say you have less free time in the DPC program and maybe this is due to the lectures being streamed but wouldn't it be safe to say that less time in lecture or watching lectures gives you more time to study and thus more free time? When I went to LECOM I talked to both a lecture based and problem based student and all either of them could say was how great PBL was. One student said he would come back from lecture and the PBL student was finishing up studying while he just started to hit the books for the night. Again this may be different given attendance policies aren't the same at both schools. Im not naive to the fact that free time isn't something you should come to expect but this difference in opinions between the PBL programs at schools is making me wonder.
