New York COM (NYIT-COM) Discussion Thread 2014 - 2015

Hi guys. I was accepted at another school recently. I am still hoping to come off the waitlist at NYCOM, but don't lose hope! It was totally unexpected and school is starting in 2 weeks. If I am not pulled off the waitlist within the next 2 weeks I will be withdrawing my application from NYCOM due to attendance elsewhere. If I hear anything back I will update you all immediately. Good luck!
 
Congratulations! Been rooting for you since the beginning of this whole elongated wait. If it doesn't happen, take that acceptance and dont look back. You will be a doctor!!
 
The website doesn't say what the minimum cut of gpa and mcat score is. It just says all grades must be a C and above.
Do the screen out applications?
 
I interviewed on march 31st and was waitlisted in may. 31 MCAT and 3.42 gpa. Its a bit frustrating on having to wait so long to get a response. Are they only giving phone calls at this point?

Correct. They are calling by phone in pulling people off the waitlist. Expect big movement in the following weeks!

Thanks bro! I was about to be really bummed of having to take biochem/sociology and the stress of retaking the MCAT. I'm glad that won't have to happen anymore. I need to get to brushing up on the chemistry/bio knowledge lol.

For those interested, my stats are 34 MCAT (14/9/11) 3.4 GPA (a slightly higher Sci/math GPA)
 
Everyone is so optimistic!! I love our attitude on things.
 
For listing the letter reccommenders on the application..if we have a committee packet...do we only write the name of the committee packet writer...or do I write also the names of the individual letter writers included inthe packet?? I have 4 science LOR's but only enough space for 2....the other 2 spaces are for non science and other (non faculty)
 
I'm still waiting but I'm out if I hear nothing tomorrow. :bigtears: School starts on Monday and I will be driving over to settle in on Friday. Good luck to everyone else who is waiting.

There's a reason why this waitlist is the worst hell on earth... Hope. Every man who has ventured here over the centuries has looked up to the light and imagined climbing to acceptance. So easy... So simple... And like shipwrecked men turning to sea water from uncontrollable thirst, many have died trying. I learned here that there can be no true despair without hope. So, as I terrorize the applicant pool, I will feed its people hope to poison their souls. I will let them believe they can survive so that you can watch them clamoring over each other to "stay in the sun." You can watch me torture an entire waitlist and when you have truly understood the depth of your failure, we will fulfill Student Doctor's destiny... We will destroy the waitlist and then, when it is done and the waitlist is ashes, then you have my permission to reapply.

Not me. =-( I told NYITCOM a week ago I would be withdrawing my application today due to another acceptance. Guess it's the end of the road for this school.

We just got a minor Bane problem right now is all. Hey, you got in somewhere and that's awesome. On our end we are running out of time too. It's 1 or 2 weeks before orientation at NYIT? I'd imagine a few spots will open if people don't show up or do not pay tuition. So we totally got a chance, but we are finally closing in on the last moments of the waitlist. Perhaps there is a lot of movement outside SDN residents? Still hoping for that miraculous phone call.

I'm sure you'll get in. It seems a chunk of people will be pulling off the waitlist such as myself. I already got moved in here in PA. Good luck to you guys and hopefully I'll meet some of you during residency. =P
 
I just got pulled off a waitlist that I had not expected to be pulled off so I will be withdrawing my waitlist spot here. It's Friday after 5 so I'll send an email so that they have it first thing Monday for you guys. The white coat ceremony is literally in 2 days! I'm so excited!

Good Luck EVERYONE! It will happen! Never give up!

I'm curious as to why you were on the waitlist for so long with those stats. Bad interview? Late application? My stats are similar.

At LECOM I didn't have my DO recommendation until March, and was put on the Waitlist from then until July.

I was taken off the waitlist at LECOM, not NYCOM. Honestly, I felt the interview went better at NYCOM than LECOM, but who knows since it's mostly subjective. I wrote 2 letters of Intent for NYCOM and was still not taken off the list before the start date for LECOM. Who knows what would have happened if I had turned down my acceptance (which I wouldn't recommend to anyone) Either way I'm learning more than I ever thought I could.
 
Got a call yesterday from them, I got pulled off the waitlist finally lol. Too bad I just received my White Coat from TOUROCOM 🙂

So I was complete here early December and I was wondering if I stand any chance this late in the cycle? Colorado Resident, 3.59cGPA, 3.35sGPA, 504 MCAT (27.5 on old scale)
