So excited, got the interview email, and booked for Jan 22. Good luck everyone!!
interviewing January 31st. Does anyone know how long it takes to get the confirmation email after you pick the date?
I got mine within a minute of picking the date.
Uh oh...I haven't gotten a confirmation yet and I picked the date on the 20th..
You might want to check your spam folder.
Thanks for the tip! I have been waiting for my confirmation e-mail for a while as well and just found it in the spam folder.
Whoever is interviewing soon don't forget to ask about the iPads 😉
What did u want to know about the iPads?
Supposedly the school signed a contract with Apple last week to supply students with iPads for the next entering class. This was during the November 6 interview. So if anyone goes to Nova and interviews, they can ask the staff to confirm if this is true or not.

I just read through the entirety of the facebook group and her website.
One of our professors spoke of this incident, as the woman kept posting these signs outside of Nova on public property. My overall impression is that this is an obviously disgruntled former student who, instead of trying to get help for her mother so she can continue with school, apparently decided to skip both midterms and finals and is now complaining about the ramifications of her decisions. I understand that emergencies are emergencies... I wouldn't wish upon anyone the experience of witnessing the deteriorating health of a family member. But it seems as though this former student did not do everything she could to stay in school. Administration will give you a zero, like any other school, if you miss an exam. There is a period of remediation, so she may have missed that, too. So then the picture potentially becomes: missed midterms, missed finals, missed remediations...
Still, I do not know the whole story of what happened to this former student. All we have to read is the public dissemination of her own biased interpretations. Either way, it looks like she burned any bridge she had that would lead to re-enrolling as a student at NSU-COM.
If my mother was ever in a situation like this, I would drop everything and be by her side to take care of her. I understand your need to defend your school, but I fail to see how you can think that she failed "to get help for her mother so she can continue with school". What if she didn't have anyone to help her out? Even if she did have someone to help her, what if her mother's worsening condition gave her no choice but to be there by her side? On her facebook page, she states that she kept the school in the loop regarding what was going on with her mother's condition. What more could she have done other than expecting the school to work with her in such a critical time in her life?

Ok so my interview today went well! Really loved the school!
I asked about iPads and they said they are still reviewing how/if they would implement them. Their idea is to do testing on iPads too, so they still figuring out if that would work.
They do currently provide ebooks though.
They also mentioned they were reviewing their attendance policy to possibly make lecture not mandatory and have more consistent online recordings.

I think there may be more to the story because the Nova medical student that gave me a tour should have been a second year but he didn't pass some of his first year classes so he is repeating them.
I can understand that. Then again, each school is different. We haven't touched the otoscope or ophthalmoscope first semester. However, when it comes time for Clinical Skills Exams, you need to bring the equipment. We had to bring our BP cuffs with us into the exams.

Yes!
No. Double yes.
The lady doing my interview said she used iclickers religiously when I mentioned them in answering the question about what I disliked about taking undergrad classes after taking graduate courses. I told her I hated being treated like a freshman again and brought up iclickers. Don't know if she was just trying to see how I navigated a sticky situation I got myself in or if she really does use iclickers. She said it didn't count for a whole grade but it was used to quiz students and maintain attendance implicitly.
What's it like in your head? 🙂
I go to every lecture when attendance is not required. It is in my opinion a sign of respect for the students ability to be in control of their future. I return the respect by attending. Even when I teach now I don't require attendance and I have no issues with students not showing up.
Some people don't enjoy silly learning games and find it annoying and would rather just read the book or watch parts of the lecture when they are fully awake instead of at 8am. I am one of those people. People learnt just fine for 2000 years without iclickers. I don't need it being an integral part of my learning experience.
I don't mind their usage. I am against their forced usage.
On a side note, does anyone know how to pay the deposit? I have not received the packet in the mail yet, and am wondering if we can pay it without having to wait for the mail?

The packet gives you a site to go to to pay the deposit. If no one posts it by the time I get home I'll PM it to you.
I also have an interview at LECOM-B and I'd like to only pay for one trip to Florida (being from the west coast) so I'm trying to reschedule my Nova interview. Does anyone know if you lose the spot you have when you log into the page and hit 'reschedule my interview'? Or does it keep your spot until you pick a new interview date? I don't want to try and reschedule and end up being left in the dust until March or something...
