For the interview portion of the interview day how does it work? Is it one on one or group?

Thanks! Super excited to interview here!

I had two interviewers.

Sent from my Galaxy S2

I had two interviewers. They were great, especially the one. He wanted to give me a beer lol.

sigh.

cancelling my Nova interview for 2/7 tomorrow over the phone. if anyone lives nearby with an II than wants that slot, call them in the afternoon, sometime around 2pm.

sorry, I wish I had decided sooner.

Yea i really wish i lived close to snag the interview spot - no more open slots but i got the ii - first world problems i guess

Had my interview back in October, it was two interviewers per applicant. I got a Podiatrist and an Family Doc (MD), ~45 min of interviewing. Both of them were from NYC, and when they found out I was too, the interview got REALLY conversational, one of the doctors was from my high school and started asking me if certain teachers were still working there xD... I feel like that was fate , Most of the other applicants felt it was really low stress too so I wouldn't worry too much into it. Just prepare and you'll be fine

I got in btw =P, replied in 2 weeks

Got up a little earlier to withdraw officially. 2/7 slot is open. GET IT WHILE IT'S HOT.

Gotta squat that application scheduler like a hawk. Trust me on this.

You better believe i am - at this point is it just to interview for a waitlist spot or do they straight up accept all the way til the end?

I've already checked the scheduler like 7 times today - is this standard practice nearing the end of the season?

So no interview spots open at all? Or just before you leave the country?
No interview spots available at all. Why would you send interview invites and not have any spots for an interview open? This is so strange.

Wait, so you got an II, withdrew your app, and then got another II?

That is correct. First I got a phone call from an adcom that i cant remember the name of. He remembered that everything was just screwed up for me. Requested I give them another shot so I said yes. Two week later a second interview invite. If you want the long story I would be happy to PM you.

It is quite common for many schools kind of like a wAitlist for the interview for the waitlist. Check the website everyday at least twice. People cancel all the time end of the season interviews.

Jesus on a tricycle dude.

That's rather...I don't know.

I know it seems odd but there is a long but interesting story. Short of it is NOVA made a mistake I got mad and made a mistake and withdrew then Nova contacted me to fix the mistake so I am back on again. To be honest It is most likely to late. The last two cycles Novas waitlist was a mile long and barely moved. So it will most likely be a another good trip for them to tell me better luck next cycle but you never know.

I doubt they would have gone that far unless they wanted you. Good luck nonetheless.

I see that some people have interviews tommorow. I interviewed last Thursday and I saw on this forum that some people who interviewed a week before me found out if they got accepted the day after I was interviewed. Just trying to figure out the trend. Would be nice to find out this Friday if the trend holds.

It seems like a lot of adcoms meet at the end of the month, so that could be it.

Exactly, you won't know unless you try. Don't give up hope that easily. I know quite a few people in my class that got in within a week of the white coat ceremony. It freaking sucks moving your life that quickly, but man is it worth it. Many people drop in July, so interviewing this late may turn into an even longer wait. But trust me, it is definitely worth the wait. Just keep them up to speed with your accomplishments, and express to them why you should be accepted/why you want to attend. It never hurts to send another LOR if they will accept it. Just some things to keep in mind.

I have been looking through this thread and it seems like it takes 7-10 days on average after the interview to know if you are admitted.

So it's looking very unlikely I will be accepted at this point for this cycle. This is still my top school and I will definitely be re-applying, very early next cycle. Any tips/hints I can do to increase my odds for next year? I have a 28O, 3.6c/3.4s, research experience, shadowing experience and Hospice volunteer experience. My application was complete 10/17, which I know if pushing it as far as my stats go. If you want to know any more specific stats let me know. Any help is appreciated!

Were there any red flags on your transcript? Personal statement? Have you tried submitted more letters? Have you tried submitted any additional documentation indicating that you aren't just a GPA and an mcat score? Could you have gotten a poor letter from someone?

My overall stats (according to the LizzyM score) were weaker than yours but I have extremely strong letters (I submitted 7 all of which were written by people who I had known for over 5 years and had some sort of weekly contact with that entire time) and my personal statement was pretty good as well (getting published). Sometimes it's not just the stats and the numbers. I sent them a folder full of pictures I had taken and it was brought up in the interview. How do you stand out from a sea of statistics? I only volunteered for a couple hundred hours in 2005-2006. Shadowed a few physicians for the same amount of time instead of just the customary few days. I feel they got to know me much better than if i had only seen them for a week. They wrote very strong letters for me after they saw that i deserved a chance and that i wouldnt waste it. If you are in florida, make an appointment with an admissions counselor and see what they have to say. Go there in person and find out what you could be doing. A lot of times that extra effort goes a long way. You might be faced off with someone who kills you in stats but that extra push of showing you want it more might just be what is needed. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions.

I agree

I know I need work on my PS, I am going to be working on revising it immediately. I only had one DO letter from my shadowing, so I'm going to be in contact with the others (one is even a NSUCOM alum) in hopes of adding more letters. I think my biggest problems to work on are the date I apply and my PS. Thanks for the help 🙂

It will be on NPR.

I just changed the last paragraph that was geared towards why I want to go to med school to why medicine was the way to go after having 3 degrees in 3 different disciplines and how it wasn't an immediate decision after my birth but that it took time to precipitate.

Waiting post interview is an exciting/nerveracking period. Hopefully people who interviewed on the 31st find out tomorrow or early next week.

Weren't you told at the interview when the admissions committee was to meet?

If they met this Tuesday then it's very likely emails go out tomorrow. Starting at about 11am est.

Edit: It doesn't seem likely they met this week. I believe it's every two weeks, and they met last week. So you may have to wait the full two weeks, sorry. Hope I'm wrong, I know how hard it is to wait.

We were told by Anastasia that the latest we would find out would be the 22nd of this month but from the thread I have seen some people find out 7-10 days post interview. So that's why I am hoping for that scenario.

Ok. That means the AdCom meets next Tuesday, the 12th. Anastasia gets letters signed by the Dean and sends acceptance emails that Friday, the 15th. This gives them a week until her "no later than" date in case there's something they missed or they want to add another acceptance, etc. Sorry, looks like you have to wait one more week. Those that only have to wait 7-10 days are the ones interviewing this week.

*of course this is all from my observations while I waited for my acceptance, during which time I was painstakingly taking apart the timeline from previous posts. My predictions are not 100% guaranteed, but I believe many will agree with me.

Since we find out via email before receiving the letter then next friday seems to be the date.

For the people who have been accepted or are already in med school at Nova, how much financial aid did you receive via fafsa?

I think you'll get more responses to questions like these in the group FB page. Loads of current med students in there have been really helpful.

Is everyone else who logs into the scheduler page seeing no interview dates available?? Is this common each year??

Was anyone here accepted off the alternate list? Does Nova typically accept people off of it?

Not sure when the alternate list starts moving, but it definitely moves.

Hey I'm applying next cycle. I was wondering if a high GPA (~3.7) will compensate for a low-ish mcat (25) at this school? I heard that Nova only loves people with high mcats.

I was accepted with a 26. My science GPA is 3.56 so I'd say you could be right around the same place I was. However, I think my military background was a huge plus for me. I haven't seen many MCAT scores as low as mine here. A lot of 29, 30, 31. I'm married, have three kids and my wife is a full time nurse and going to school. I also didn't take any science courses until two years ago, so I think they expect my numbers to be a little lower. Make sure your ECs/Life experiences are really good and that you make yourself "unique" somehow.

Hey everyone, I have a quick question. I was looking through the CIB and I realized that NSU-COM had the highest 2011 avg. student indebtedness out of all the schools at $290,000. The tuition here's ~$47k (according to the website).

On the other hand, a school with higher tuition like CCOM, for example, had an avg. indebtedness of only $218,000 despite a tuition of ~$52k. Or Touro NY, which has $200,000 indebtedness with a tuition of $41k.

Am I missing something? Can someone please chime in on why the number is so much larger for NSU? Cost of living doesn't seem to account for the discrepancies (I'm pretty sure COL in FL isn't higher than NY anyway).

So are there any good interview pointers for Nova? Anything to watch out for questions to have an awesome answer for anything like that? Being an end of the season interview I really want to hit this off well. If I get in or not I want to know I did the best I could this round. I will be doing a few mock interviews with a few really critical people but I would like to be able to twist it to fit some questions from Nova. Any ideas?

I understand. I will keep my chin up but will prep for the future. I may get into USFs IMS and if not that I will transfer the app to the MSBS program. I am starting to work on my personal statement again and getting LORs lined but for the next round. You know what they say hope for the best prepare for the worst. To get this round after my bad luck would be great. Thanks for the positive vibes.

Late response, but that's interesting..I would take it as a good sign that they went through the trouble of sending a second interview. Good luck !
