Did anyone get a confirmation from Colorado? We had to mail the packet and it has been weeks and I do not know if they received it

This is why it is wise to pay for tracking.

Does Colorado ask for you to send a check in the mail? If they do, check to see if they cashed it.

Hi guys,

Anybody knows what is the average recommended score for the GRE?

Thanks in advance

Hi guys,

Anybody knows what is the average recommended score for the GRE?

Thanks in advance
Try to get at least a 155 in both verbal and math. The written section, aim for a 4+. Obviously you want the best score you can get but the only program I’ve seen with a cutoff is UMKC. They had a verbal 155 cutoff. There is a pubmed article out there that assessed future predictor of success in residency based off objective exam/gpa values if your interested. It’s only a piece of the puzzle so have a unique personal statement if your scores aren’t strong.

I received an "application incomplete" email today from Tufts stating that they are missing my GRE score which I sent to code 3902 on 6/11. Is anyone experiencing a similar issue? Other schools that have required official GRE score report seemed to have received my report that I sent the same day, so unsure of what's going on.

Univ of Maryland send completion email?

yes, received it July 1st.

Tufts took a few weeks to get my GRE score but 6/11 seems excessive. However their email says you have until November 13th to send official scores and to not contact them about missing materials. Maybe send them an unofficial report via email for now

I got a confirmation that they received my secondary but I was still missing some stuff. Haven’t heard anything since.
Thanks, how long did it take them to get back to you? I sent my stuff in a couple weeks ago and haven't heard anything yet.

Thanks a lot for your response.

Interesting! Would you mind please send me the article?

They emailed me the same day my package arrived (with tracking). I emailed them around two weeks after to confirm the rest of my application was in but didn’t get a response. They’re probably busy..

If anybody submitted the Nova application...did you get a link for the supplemental app, or did you just navigate the website and find it? How long after submitting did it take to get the link?

I submitted on July 3, got the email saying app complete on July 8, and got the link to the portal on July 10. Hope this helps!

Guys I had my GRE on Aug 6, still haven't got the results. When do you usually hear back from ETS?

I took it on May 29 and got it back on June 15. Hang in there! It will come very soon!
Dang! that's 17 days my man, I was hoping to make it for some August 15 schools, that will accept the score a couple of days after the 15th 🙁

I know - fingers crossed it works out for you! It definitely took longer than the 10-15 calendar days people estimate.

I took mine a few days before you and got it last week. You’ll probably get it soon.

164 RC, 164 QR, 5.5 writing. But my GPA/rank is subpar so I’m hoping my GRE will help me stand out a little.

What do you define as subpar? My understanding is that top quarter should give anyone a chance.

This was my understanding too. Top quarter or if you're close to it like top 30% AT LEAST. Some schools have a minimum that you must be in the top 30% to even apply

I’m just outside of the top 30%. We’ll see how this cycle goes

Most programs use the GRE as a pass/fail system. My friend was #1 in her class, did poorly on the GRE (low 50 percentile on both) still received a ton of interviews (8) and matched at her #1. Unfortunately, I don't think the GRE carries much weight unless you get 169 or 170. Class Rank and GPA are still the highest determining factors based on the research study performed for orthodontic residency. Not sure a poor class rank and great GRE will balance out.

Agreed. I do think the GRE may be helpful for applicants who don't have a class rank. No class rank at my school but my GPA is 0.3 above average and I scored 85-90 percentile on GRE. So I'm a bit nervous myself and don't expect much!

Hello everyone! I am a current orthodontic resident at one of the universities and I understand how disappointing it must be to not have the typical interview process. Is there anything we can do or you would like to see that would help you get a feel of our program(s) and give you as close to an immersive experience as possible on this virtual interview trail?

A couple things I’d like to see:

1. An opportunity to have a “social” over zoom to talk to the residents about the program and get a feel for the culture there. I think the experiences that residents have is probably the most helpful source of info we can get about any given program

2. In the same vein, maybe a presentation by either faculty or residents that gives perspective into the daily routine of the residents at each program, how they’re started out, # of cases they do, digital scanning experience, how each program is handling covid protocols, etc

I have no idea if these are things already done normally or are already planned on being done but that’s what I could think of!

Hey! Thanks for reaching out to us, it's really appreciated.

Adding to what @blablabla1 said, I think a quick slideshow of the campus, orthodontic clinic, and resident life would be very insightful in lieu of an in-person tour. It would give us a better idea of the environment we'll be living in for the next 2-3 years.

Thanks for reaching out this is very helpful! Though I think a social is important to some degree, I def think it needs to be directed somehow with maybe interviewees answering random ice breaker/fun random questions. Turning residents and interviewees loose in a large zoom meeting just sounds hella awkward for both parties involved. Would love to see a tour of the clinic, strengths of the program, digital dentistry's role in treatment, and also an overview of the city it's in too!!!

Good point, I didn’t think about logistics of all this over zoom. It would probably be more feasible to assign each resident to a certain number of interviewees and have them separate into different rooms on Zoom so that asking questions is less chaotic.

Does anybody have a virtual visit coming up? How did you go about setting the appointment for it?

No kidding.. What was the purpose of me working my ass off in dental school and finishing in the top of the class? I don't even know what to do now. Like, this is just getting ridiculous.

Work your butt off after dental school too. GSO adding 18 more seats shouldn’t change that.

Regardless, GSO had a hard time filling up the 18 seats for class of 2023 (it seems like they’re still somehow taking applications for that class?). The odds of them filling 36 seats is pretty low.

Not having to go into debt an additional $300,000+ just to match into an ortho residency would be one incentive.

Almost 100k a year for US residents and 175k a year for international... how can anyone afford that?

Though I understand all the concerns, the tuition, and large class size...I applaud them for giving opportunities to everyone else...especially those that would make an outstanding orthodontic provider but don't fit in the top tier for whatever reason. I'm unsure if that was their initial thought behind its formation, nonetheless, i think it provides a great avenue for people who desire orthodontia so much they are willing to pay for it.

I don't even think this is defensible. Charging predatory amounts of tuition (100k for tuition and fees alone, or 175k for internation students) and accepting 36 residents per year will ruin individual lives as well as the field in general. They have one thing on their mind: making money. Do they even have enough patients for 36 residents?

And what type of an organization is CODA to allow this?

You know what, I've found the silver lining. To those of you who think this school is doing good in the world, keep me in mind. And write my name down. I will be the first person to start an orthodontic residency who accepts 100 students per year. Tuition will be a cool $125,000 per 12 months. It will be a 3 year and 6 month program.
