Oy, this is not going be a fun couple of weeks. It seems like all the schools I am waiting on will drop the bomb in the next week or so.

I gave them my cell phone number as my daytime contact #, so I may have to leave it on vibrate tomorrow. :D

Good luck, everyone!

Hey guys. Well it's 7:55am east coast time right now. I will be staring at my phone for the next 9 hours, hoping for the call. THE day is finally here!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah its 7:30 west coast time in the morning. I just don't know what is going to happen today...

10 AM CST.

I've kinda decided that I'll probably fall into the group they'll discuss next week, seeing as how I just interviewed a week ago today, but I'm still hoping.

Good luck, y'all! (In the Southern spirit of thigns... )

still nobody with a phone call?

Nope, nothing yet.

STill no calls?- I just ran home and totally skipped going to my lab.
Does anyone want to call to see if they are still calling today- I think I may ask my roomate to call (so they do not think I am stalking them).

Some news from the front lines:

138 people were selected at the last committee meeting. There was one person making good news phone calls from the admissions office today, but he had to leave at 1PM. It's possible someone took over "phone call duty" when he left, but I think not -- I get the feeling that the rest of the calls will wait until next week (don't think there's any way to make 138 calls in four hours).

Best of luck to those still waiting -- I remember exactly how it feels...

:(

Yes, please, somebody call and put us out of our misery! If I know I won't be hearing anything today, I can just (sort of) chill out and wait for the snail mail.

unless, of course the answer is that they have already called everyone who got in and that they rest of us should just forget it. that would kinda suck.

when was the last committee held? just wanna know if it was before or after my interview...thanks

Statistically, odds are a bunch of SDN'ers are in that group. So, I would think that they just haven't gotten around to us yet...

And, if they only got through 138 of them (about 70% of total acceptances), odds are I'm in the next group for sure.

So, good luck to the rest of you, and one more week of waiting for me!

Thanks, omores! :D

I agree - time to stop staring at the phone and just wait for the mail! Someone here should have gotten a phone call because there are so many of us anxiously waiting, so I am not worrying about not getting the happy call. The letters are in the mail, so I hope that you all hear good news!

Does anyone know if they are only sending acceptances in the mail today? What about the applicants who get rejected or waitlisted? When are they mailing those out? I guess the longer it goes without receiving any mail from Duke, the more we have to worry.

Abefroman - they're supposedly calling applicants, then mailing out letters, then about a week later, the decision will be on the web site. So, if you interviewed relatively early, and don't hear anything by the end of next week, then I would say that would be a bad sign...

Supposedly, they interviewed about 800 people, and they'll accept about 200. So, your odds are 1 in 4 - not too bad... There are maybe at least a dozen SDN'ers who interviewed there, so we would've heard something from somebody by now if most of the calls had gone out. Probably, like omores said, they sent out a few, and the rest'll come on Monday or Tuesday.

As well, they have decided on about 70% of their acceptances. That means that, probably, about 30% of the applications haven't even been looked at. Probably if you interviewed in the last month, you'll have to wait until next week. I interviewed on the last day, so odds are my application will have to wait. That is, assuming they look at the applications in order, and that they're still planning to send out 200 acceptances...

Good luck!

I was called today, and I was accepted. I am exteremely excited. I was called around 1:00pm CST, by a woman in the admissions office. She left a message on my cell phone, as I was in class and couldn't answer. I am an MD/PhD applicant and actually was told by Pat that I had been accepted about a week ago. I decided not to post that info earlier so as to not make people more anxious. If anyone has questions PM me.

BME02

well, if it helps, i've been accepted mstp (earlier) but i DIDN'T get called :) so they definitely aren't done calling. i wonder if it's alphabetical? my last name begins w/ h . . .

Hey, BME! Way to go! Very cool.

What number did they call you at? I haven't been home all day, so I suppose they could have called me there. I still think I'm probably in the batch next week, but who knows??

Brandonite- If you don't mind my asking- what are your stats? You seem really confident :)

good luck!

Never mind, you answered my question. I'm obviously not too intelligent today...

I just checked my voice mail at home, and there was nothing there. So, either that's bad news, or they'll call on Monday, or I'm in the next batch. For now, I'll choose to think it's one of the latter two options.

brandonite i just sent you a PM about something completely different

good luck!•••••I'm just an optimist by nature. It really is a nice way to go through life. You get disappointed a lot, but you usually have something else to hope for. :D

38-40Q MCAT, 3.82 GPA overall, 3.95 BCPM.

I was a finalist for a Canadian Rhodes Scholarship due to my student gov't activities... Also, a pile of research experience, albeit in Astronomy.

My main problems with my app is my lack of volunteer experience in hospitals, and the fact that I went to a very non-prestigous undergrad.

Impressive!

I'm not familiar with Duke's policy on International students (or even if Canadians are considered to be traditional international students-- if that makes any sense at all) so do you know if they have taken many Canadians in past classes?

Ya, they've taken Canadians in the past. We are considered international students, just maybe a bit less international than other students. So, someone from Europe, say, would have to spend at least a year studying in the US before they could apply, but we're fine.

I haven't had a lot of luck so far, though, so I'm wondering if there's a bias against us... Either that or there's some kind of problem with my app, but I prefer not to think about that.

Good luck to you too, assuming you're waiting with the rest of us...

Actually, I'm really not waiting, personally, but am anxiously waiting as a significant other of an applicant! :D

(sometimes this can actually be more stressful)

Duke is great though. It's a beautiful place. And since I've actually managed to sneak into Cameron a few times, I can attest to the intensity and camaraderie of the students at the basketball games...

Kryzekeville (sp?) was full the day I was there. They were playing UNC the day I left town.

It looked like a really cool school. I was very impressed...

Good luck to your sig other!

Congrats BME. In case it is alphabetical, could you give us the first letter of your last name? I'm sure that if it was alphabetical, they could at least get through a decent amount of the alphabet. I'm just hoping that it's not alphabetical...

If it is alphabetical, I'm out for this round; my name starts with a 'C'. On the other hand, I only interviewed a couple of weeks ago (2/19).

I suppose that we could set up a list for people waiting to hear, when they interviewed, and the first letters of their last names...

But that seems like a lot of work. :p

If you did that, you might be officially crossing over into OCD-land. :)

Does anyone know if they are calling into the evening? It's 3 on the west coast and I don't think I'm going to get a call today...

I think they're probably done for the day.

Omores seemed to think that they finished about noon today. For the two people who got called - did you get the call this morning or this afternoon?

It's like 6 PM out there now, anyway. I think it's probably done for the day...

Ok so heres the deal, I was at work and my roomate got the call. He asked them to tell him for me, but they said they couldnt do that, but they told him to tell me to have a "really nice" weekend. I am assuming this means I got in because I dont think they would call waitlists or rejections.

Congrats Logan. Okay so lets say it's not alphabetical since Rica got a call and her last name was T. Logan, when did you interview. It seems that Rica interviewed pretty early (November).

I got a call at about 1:40pm ET.

Logan congrats!!!

Interviewed 12/3 THanks Orginal and Time Quaker

it is a real bummer for me. I live in California and my last name ends with a S and I interviewed in early November. Sadly, I was not called. I guess I was not accepted. It seems the only students who were not called who were accepted were the MD/Ph.Ds who knew anyway that they were accepted. Anyway, if anyone knows if they are going to call next week as well, please post! Anyway, good luck!

sorry for all these questions. Does anybody know why there are two round of acceptances? Does it depend on when you were interviewed? I was interviewed in November, so can I hear back in the second round of acceptances? Anyway, thanks.

dukee,

are you a fellow duke alum by any chance? i also interviewed back in november. which date were you there? i was interviewing today at another school, and all i could think about was THAT phone call. but, let's not give up hope because there's no way they could have made all of the phone calls today. good luck!!!

Dukee,
If you read back you'll see that there is a strong indication that everyone (in the first batch) was not called today. It seems that Original and BME knew about their accepts before leaving only two confirmed new acceptees (Logan and Rica). I was only making a guess as to the order of the calls. There could be no real order. I would just sit and wait for the mail. Good luck and keep hoping.

hey RNAgirl, I interviewed on nov. 5. I believe is was a Monday. I am a duke alum. I believe there was someone from Stanford who had a mutual friend that I met and another Dukie, someone from Northwestern and U of Colorodo in my interview group?
Anyway, what day did you interview? I was sort of counting on this because I have not gotton in anywhere. I was told my the student I interviewed that I was a strong candidate and was rated the highest in all categories, but I guess that does not help...

I would really like to know how many people they called on Friday. When I had my roomate call at ~3 yesterday the woman said that they had 2 people working on making the calls. Duke is the only school that I really want to go and I'm afraid that they may have already made most of the calls..... :( :(

Let's try to keep this thread to information about Duke's decisions and not biographical sketches or reunions.

I called on Friday at 3 and they told me that there had been some problems in the morning. The woman (who seems to be telling everyone something different) said they were trying to make a few calls in the afternoon, but they might just "scrap the calling thing altogether." I asked if that meant they would not be calling anyone on Monday and she said she did not know. She did say all the letters went out a few minutes before 3pm and that they will post the info on the web 5 days after Friday, excluding Friday, which, she said was Wednesday. I did not ask if the waitlists and rejectsion went out as well. I also asked how many decisions they made and she would only say a little over 100. I said 138? and she said "we're not allowed to say."
