OFFICIAL DUKE COUNTDOWN THREAD

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hmm. Well, what might have happened is this: they went through all the applications up until Feb. 25th, accepted a bunch of those, and set a bunch of them aside. Then, this week, they'll go over the rest of the apps, accept a bunch of us, and then go over all of the applications in total and accept people until they get up to 200. So, 'no decision' might mean that you didn't get accepted on the first pass, but there's still another go around this week. If that makes any sense...

Good luck to y'all! (in the southern spirit of things... ). Friday's only four days away...

To give out 70% of acceptances all the way upto Feb 25th wouldn't make sense. There were only 4 days of on-campus interviewing after that date. Of course, this would contradict the actual post on interview feedback that mentioned the feb. 25th cutoff (something along the lines of...everyone who interviewed before this date has already been decided upon...). Ah. I don't know anymore. Based on past experiences though, these admissions people don't mind lying on the phone when it's a rejection or waitlist.

That has been my experience too Time Quaker, but lets hope... nothing else we can do at this point, right?

So, for those of us in the northeast, we know this batch of letters got at least as far as Baltimore. Do you think it's feasible that they'll reach New England in tomorrow's mail? I'm going nuts waiting here! Of course, I'll probably end up having to wait for the second mailing anyway, knowing my luck. Oh well, good luck everyone! Post as soon as you receive anything tomorrow! 🙂

did anybody get a call? I was thinking of calling on Tuesday--you guys got a lot of courage calling...

TommyGunn04,
I'm in New England, and I got a letter today. I think that's pretty weird though because things from the Southeast normally seem to take 3 days to get here.

This is my first official post on SDN--has anyone heard anything from Duke other than notice of an acceptance?

Welcome to SDN KDMD! I think you and Duke are the perfect match!

i'd really like to get this whole thing over with. i'm trying to figure out housing for the other med school i would go to. if duke let's me go..then i'll be free.

Are you guys picking up the slack for SMW??? the offical welcoming comm...

Whoever said pre-meds were competetive and cut throat clearly never read SDN--you guys rock!

Welcome to SDN, both of you!

It's just sorta a SDN tradition to welcome new members, I guess. And SMW probably wouldn't read a thread about Duke, so somebody has to do it.

I usually prefer email to calling. I don't think it's quite as annoying to the people in the office (they can answer on their own time, etc), and you almost always get a reply within a few hours.

I normally do not call, but I remembered how nice the people were at my interview. Not surprisingly, they were just as nice when I called.

Somebody else asked, but I wanna bring it up again, has anybody recieved anything but an acceptance (congrats!) post-interview?

hey- did you guys get that duke survival guide during your interview day?

Anyone hear anything today?

•Anyone hear anything today?•••••I got that 8.5" by 11" envelope today. I live in the South (10 hrs drive from Durham). Good luck people.

*sniffle* *sniffle*
Still crossing fingers for this Friday....

My letter still did not come today- I thought it would have come by now. (I live in NJ)

Is it just me or does it seem like not that many people have gotten into Duke? With the other schools there has been a landslide of happy posts, but not here. That gives me hope for all of us who haven't heard yet!!!

•My letter still did not come today- I thought it would have come by now. (I live in NJ)•••••I still haven't heard anything either. I live in RI. I don't understand what's going on...I figured there would've been way more happy posts by now! I'm beginning to wonder if it's really true that all letters for people who interviewed before a certain date were really sent out last Friday. I hope it's just that the USPS is being slow!

I wish Duke, Penn and Yale hadn't advertised their decision dates and then failed to meet them.

Dr. G--did you get the million dollar phone call and you are waiting for your official letter to arrive, or are you still waiting as anxiously as all of us for either/or/both???

did anybody get called today?

KDMD,
They never called me- but when I called them on Monday the secretary conected me to the dean who told me I was accepted.
I still want to hold that letter in my hands though so I can be completely sure it was me they accepted and not some other Dr. G.
So the mail is moving slowly and i think they may have given up on making calls- the dean told me they only made a few on Friday.
Good Luck!

BUMP!

The rest of us should know (almost) for sure in 2 days......

Are there REALLY only like 2 people on all of SDN who have gotten into Duke so far??? What's going on?!

What was the final word on whether they will be updating our status on the web site? I know at one point someone said that by today our status would be updated...

Just called... got the infamous "No decision."

I got my acceptance last Sat., but I live in Durham. Keep your hopes up!

•••quote:•••Originally posted by moo:
•Just called... got the infamous "No decision." 🙁•••••Moo, what exactly did they say? Did they say that your application is still being considered by the committee and that your letter will be sent out on Friday? Or did they just tell you bluntly that no decision has been made? Or something else?

•Hi Everyone,

I saw this posted on Interview Feedback by "admissions personnel or faculty" at Duke.

•••quote:•••For those students who have were interviewed by February 25th, letters with admissions decisions (accept, alternate, rejection) have been mailed on March 8th and and another batch will be mailed on March 15th. The same information will be posted to the website, http://dukemed.duke.edu. on March 22nd. ••••EC•••••I was just thinking about this post here. Assuming it's actually from an admissions officer at Duke, I'm wondering if perhaps we may have been interpreting it incorrectly. Maybe it means that if you interviewed by Feb 25th, your letter will be sent out EITHER on the 8th or the 15th, and if you interviewed after that date, you may not hear anything until after the 15th? Still, the 25th thing seems a little arbitrary. Then again, so much of the admissions process IS, right?

I'm totally overanalyzing, but it's only because I'm anxiously awaiting some news from Duke, my first choice!

I agree about the overanalyzing comment -- they sent out some acceptances, and on Friday they will send out a few more with the waitlists and rejections.

The thing that makes my gut wretch is that it was said somewhere, that they already admitted 138 people. Thats an awful lot if the limit is 200.

(But maybe the number is wrong?)

Hey guys. I interviewed on February 1, never got a phone call, but received the big acceptance packet last night.

Check out the new info on the status page. All final decisions will be posted on the webpage on March 22nd.

They bluntly told me that there has been no decision and that they will be sending more acceptances/waitlists/rejections on friday. Being a bit more optimistic than the crowd here, I am willing to bet that they filled maybe half the class last friday, and that those that weren't acceptable in that batch may be accepted in the next batch, when they look at those who interviewed late.

The person I talked to said they would probably begin calling accepted students on Monday.

Spring Break is next week.... I dun wanna have to wait ANOTHER week. ugh....

Okay, maybe I'm forgetting an earlier post, but it seems like the only letters people have received have been acceptances...? Has anyone gotten a rejection/waitlist letter in the mail this week? I interviewed in December so I'm sure I was considered in the first batch.

I just heard the mail delivered outside and leaped up to check it. No news. At least I got a paycheck!

So far there hasn't been a post about anyone getting rejected/waitlisted. Then again, there have only been a couple of posts from people who've been accepted, so who knows. I actually interviewed in December as well, and when I talked to someone in the Admissions Office recently, they made it sound like my application was still being considered, and that there's a chance that I could still be accepted, even though I didn't get sent anything as of the first mailing. So don't be discouraged...you're probably being considered with this week's batch, which doesn't NECESSARILY mean you're NOT going to be accepted.

Some of the decisions are posted online already!! I just checked, and I got in  I interviewed on one of the very last days, so I didn't expect a decision from the first batch of acceptances! By the way, I didn't get a phone call, so don't worry if you didn't!! Good luck, everybody!! I'm sooo excited! YEAH DUKE!

hey congrats!
when exactly did you interview?

Oh my God! I just checked the online status and I got in, too!!! I'm so excited!!! 😀 😀 😀

thank you so much for letting us know that some decisions were posted ... I never would have checked otherwise!

Woah, I got in too! Thanks so much for posting about the status check thing!

For everyone else, I got no phone call, no letter, and I even called today at 3pm, and they said no decision had been made. Yay Duke!
