Does MW AZ have a wait list? How does it work? I haven't heard anything from them at all.

Ohio Resident, 3.9 oGPA, 3.85 science, 21/21/18 I thought I did well in the interview.

Any idea about apartments? To dorm or not to dorm? My portal showed the accepted student checklist since 10:50 am EST and got the call around 5 pm EST...

Prob get better answers looking at previous classes school discussions. But dang, you are moving fast! Lol

As of right now it's my top choice as well. I was very impressed with the school...I'm just not thrilled with the cost of tuition. Is it your top choice? I noticed that you have a few to choose from.
Yeah this is probably my top choice. With the clinical focus, facilities, and location (I'm from Phoenix) it's my top choice.

D2 here, PM if you have any specific questions. Congrats!

Congratulations on your acceptance!!! I am a current D1 at Midwestern and absolutely love it here! I wanted to let you guys know ahead of time that this Summer we will be offering a Pre-Dental Sim Course. We are currently in the process of final approval for dates, but you can plan on two different seminars. The first session is June 24-25th and the second one is July 8-9th (both weekends cover the same material).

The cost is $150, which I know seems very expensive, but we cover A LOT! You will get first hand experience on drilling Class I Preps, Taking Impressions, and Waxing. I did the Sim course as a Pre-Dental student myself, and once I started Dental School I felt way more prepared and relaxed than some of my classmates. For those of you who have been accepted this is a great chance to get a head start. For those still applying, it is another great thing to add to your list of dental experiences and talk about in future interviews. It truly is a great experience, and you will be able to network and get to familiarize yourself with the campus. Once I get the final approval, you will be able to register on the Midwestern website. I will also post a link. I really hope you consider, and feel free to message me with any other questions!

I can't remember what they said at the interview about laptops. Are we going to have to use a specific one provided by the school? If so, what kind is it?

Found out I'm on the alternate list.. Does anyone know if a lot of people from the alternate list eventually get accepted or are my chances pretty slim?
GPA: 3.5 science 3.7 overall DAT: 20AA/21Science/23PAT/18QR

Did they send the email regarding alternate list? I can't see anything on their portal.

I called them and asked about the status of my application because I hadn't heard anything either.

Congrats everyone on the acceptances. I have an interview coming up and I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to do well. I have only had one interview so far and that was an MMI format, so I am not sure what to expect from MWU. Any advice would be great!!!

Anyone can provide me any advices, message me as well. Thanks!

old dean retired. new dean came up. dont trust sdn interview questions because they have all brand new questions.

format: ask question answers questions (2 faculty + 1 student on 1), ask question after question, questions are rather short and u will feel u get drilled.

they look for instantaneous answers.

i felt i did bad but i got accepted at dec 1st.

they look for instantaneous answers.

Wasn't the case for me. I got to sit and think about my answers before I said something and was able to come back to it. Multiple questions were fairly difficult to comprehend and I asked a couple times to have it repeated.
Guess they liked me enough to accept me Dec 1. My interviewers were very nice and it helped that they smiled while I answered their questions.
At the end they give the accompanying student a chance to ask one or two questions they come up with, too. Good luck!

I also felt the same about being drilled. Although I was not forced to give instantaneous answers I did feel that that is what they were looking for. My interviewers did not smile and I remember asking to repeat the questions on a few occasions because I either lost track of my answer or the questions were unnecessarily difficult (the wording is what threw me off). All in all I did my best and really felt it was my worst interview ......,but come dec 1st I got accepted!! Other than that 40 min interview everything else about the interview day was great and I refuse to let those stressful 40 min get to me because I really could see myself being a student at MWU. I guess I will soon find out if my initial impression was accurate
So I only wish you both the best, be honest and don't be too hard on yourselves!

Was not very pleasant interview. Get ready for bunch of scenario questions. I still got waitlisted (expecting rejection). Anyway this wasn't my top choice, I got acceptance from my desired school.

I had an intense 12 minute interview here. I literally killed all the questions and i even had time to spare. REJECTION! 3.85 GPA 21/21/18.

My luck

12 minutes? I thought everybody's interview was supposed to be 30+ minutes

It also depends on how you answer the question imo. I like to take a moment to think of what I'm gonna say, and answer it slowly. I was told that doing it like that showing that you are considering your answer, thinking about it... Bla bla.

Or it could have just been luck.
I drank liquid luck before I go in. That's probably it.

You will be given a MacBook during orientation week at a cost of $1500

No, mine wasn't.

I like to believe that I am a really smooth talker and also very well spoken (intelligent, thoughtful, etc.) I think I killed all of my interview questions. One of my biggest strengths is my ability to articulate my thoughts at a very high level. I have always been good with presentations and interviews. It is very obvious that I have a tremendous amount of intelligence when I speak.

Why I wasn't accepted at this school, my state school (which accepts over 80% of instaters after interview) and another private school is beyond me. I do have another interview coming up at LECOM in January though. I am going to rethink my methods I suppose.

Sorry if I sound arrogant (maybe I seem arrogant in my interview?) in this post but I just do not understand what is going on this cycle. I thought I did everything right with my application and everything. I feel cheated :/.

I feel awful and sympathy for anyone who doesn't get into a program they desire. So don't take this wrongly because it's not meant towards you directly.
One key thing about interviews or with any interaction with people in general is LISTENING. If you are just answering question after question without being able to allow the interviewer to relate to you then it's not a conversation.
Another key feature you need to display when talking is COMPASSION.
My biggest advice I was given for my interviews was to be a listener. Listening allows your interviewers to think back at the end of the interview and when you leave the room, have them feel they connected with you and had a great conversation.
These are two of the many adjectives that describe a great dentist. Many patients you'll treat won't understand the treatment you provide them but if they leave knowing you cared about them and their health and are able to relate to you, then they would call you the best dentist.

Open to give any advice to anyone. I'm all ears and advice. Send me a PM.

I agree, and I'm going to plug for Dale Carnegie here. Everyone should have a copy of "How to Win Friends and Influence People" with them and know everything in it.

Here's a nice quote from it:

Principle Overview:

Carnegie explains that he once attended a dinner party where he met a botanist whom he found to be absolutely fascinating. He listened for hours with excitement as the botanist spoke of exotic plants and indoor gardens, until the party ended and everyone left.

Before leaving, the botanist told the host of the dinner party that Carnegie was a “most interesting conversationalist” and gave him several compliments.

Of course, Carnegie had hardly said anything at all. What he had done was listen intently. He listened because he was genuinely interested.

“And so I had him thinking of me as a good conversationalist when, in reality, I had been merely a good listener and had encouraged him to talk,” Carnegie notes.

Even the most ill-tempered person, the most violent critic, will often be subdued in the presence of a patient, sympathetic listener.

Take for example, a store clerk. If the clerk constantly interrupts and irritates customers, those customers are more likely to start arguments and bring frustrations and complaints to the store manager. But a clerk who is willing to listen could calm even a customer who storms in already angry.

Most of us are so concerned with what we are going to say next that we don’t truly listen when someone else is speaking. Yet, most people would prefer a good listener to a good talker.

Maybe they didn't get the humility vibe from you in the interview, for real though I'm not trying to be sarcastic or insult you.

This makes a lot of sense to me! I do belive that I am lacking a humanistic factor in my life (for a few personal reasons 🙁) I really appreciate your input!

This is a good quote. It was meaningful and I did start to think like this AFTER I was rejected. I questioned the idea of being a more of a listener during my interview because I thought I was the one being interviewed therefore it is my job to present myself, not necessarily listen to what the interviews had to say (in the case of the MW-AZ interivew, they didn't have much to say.) I do strongly believe that I that I am a good listener when the right situation is presented to me.

Maybe they didn't get the humility vibe from you in the interview, for real though I'm not trying to be sarcastic or insult you.
No insult taken. It is entirely possible that this is true.

I appreciate the feedback! I will consider everything posted above before my next interview.

Just cancelled my 4 January 2016 interview -- Best of luck to everyone!

Got the acceptance letter in the mail on 12 December in Utah
