I just logged onto the Midwestern Portal and there was an applicant checklist which showed 2 incomplete classes so I called admissions to advise that the two classes are complete to which they advised that I would have to send the transcript directly from the school. The told me I'm on the "alternate list" so getting that done immediately and hoping it will make a difference. :-(

Hmm why would that put you on the alternate list? Couldn't you be accepted without having pre-reqs completed before matriculation? Am I mission something?

Not related, anyone interviewed on the 12th?

You definitely can. I was accepted and I'm missing anatomy.

Is there a way to know if you are on the Alternate list other than calling the office?

I've read they are very friendly. Just give them a call.. If you are on the Alternate List I have read that it moves fast since most of students gets scared with the price tag or get accepted to their state school.

Anyone can tell me if they give out PPT for each class and you can study off the slides or they add more content on top of the slides? I'm not planning on gunning..

You will have a powerpoint for ever lecture. They record all BASI lectures and have actually just started recording the dental lectures as well (BASI lectures are optional to attend, Dental is mandatory).

You can study off of the slides but I usually take notes on the slides while the professors are lecturing and sometimes they add important information to the slides. Just depends on the professor, but you can start to figure out which classes you need to take the extra time to study the things they said in class along with the slides and which classes you can pretty much just rely on the information on the slides themselves.

Hope that helps! Congrats on the acceptance!

Did anyone get a financial aid message, but not get accepted yet?

I wonder if they are done with interviews? I've kind of given up on the fact that they waitlisted for interview.

Don't give up yet! They usually interview into March! I interviewed two years ago and didn't get the call for the interview until around end of Jan and interviewed mid Feb...then got accepted in March.

Oh and I was also on the wait list for interview list..

I can only pray that is the case for me.

Hi everybody,

I interviewed Jan 4 and have not heard anything back yet... Anyone who also interviewed on that day heard back yet? Also, anyone know how long it usually take to hear back after an interview?

Hope you're all having a nice day. Thanks in advance!

You could give them a call and ask. I probably would because I'm impatient, but up to you!

I interviewed on Jan 11 and they called me on Jan 13. But I also know someone who interviewed in Dec and still hasn't heard. On my interview day, the admissions counselor recommended calling them if you didn't hear anything within a month

Thank you for your feedback!

What do you suggest I say if I call them?

Two days wow did you end up getting in?

Yes I did. I was so excited because it felt like a perfect fit. They must have agreed 🙂 I applied to 10 schools this cycle (I also applied last cycle but only 5 schools), only got an interview at one other school and ended up getting a rejection from them. I really think the other school was able to predict that I wasn't a good fit there, personality wise, while MWU felt that I clicked with the type of student body they're looking for.

congrats!:claps: I'm still on the hunt. I'll probably give them a call if I don't hear anything by tomorrow.

I had interviewed December 17th and didn't hear back until January 13th. I understand there was a little delay because of Christmas break and all, but I did call. Just say you interviewed on the 4th and you are wondering what your current status is. They are so nice in the admissions office. Good luck!

Did MWU replace the specialists in ortho, pedo, pros that they fired?

Got my interview coming up on Feb. 8th. Really excited. Any advice and how was the interview like?

The interview felt like an interrogation, and even though I thought I did reallllllllly poorly I was still accepted. I think they just want to see how you perform under pressure. But that was my experience, I'm not sure if each interviewer has their own interview style.

Since this is a closed book interview, I guess my advice would be to answer your questions with lots of experiences to back it up. Goodluck!

In progress. I don't know if they're coming on full or part time. Pediatric dentist is already there part-time (I heard he was just coming one day per week for now, but I've seen him more often and he's fantastic! Learned a lot with just the few times I've worked with him so far). Just heard yesterday where they're setting up office for ortho -- sounds like 2 orthodontist, I suspect part time. Ortho has already ramped up since parting ways with the previous orthodontist. GP with lots of ortho experience is handling ortho until the orthodontists are set up. Not sure about prosth. The two doctors over the advanced cases area are pretty champion with prosth. As I understand, they're covering it. But I had heard that there was a prosth contract already in the works. This stuff all takes time.

I got drilled during my interview... it was like question - answer - question - answer and so on. for 30 mins or 45 then the dental student asks you two questions. Then tour around the school and overthink about your answer choices when you get home :dead::dead::dead::dead:

Where there any suprising questions??? (if your allowed to say)

Im just going to say to be yourself and take a few seconds to answer. Those type of questions require time to process. If they shoot at you and shoot back at them right away it will come across as you are not trying hard enough. Even if you know what to answer take your time. Questions are nothing out of the ordinary and don't be afraid to ask them to repeat a question. Seriously be yourself relax and enjoy! The tour is amazing and if you get to interview on the afternoon after the tour you will be able to answer some questions with more depth! Good luck!

++++++++ What forgorvostan said!

Thanks so much for the ADVICE!!! I appreciate it. I have been looking at the school website but there is not really much information that they give you.

Try looking int the catalog. I had to search for it on the side. It'll direct you to the MWU-AZ site and it'll have more information for you!

You will get paper copies of the slides and recordings! Nothing to worry about...just enjoy your summer 🙂

Just got accepted today! I apologize if this was asked already but are we required to acquire extracted teeth from dentists that we will be practicing on? I know some schools have this requirement. Thanks and I'm so excited to meet y'all!

It is not required, but they do give out jars during your first year so that you can collect teeth to work on second year. How many real teeth you work on depends on how many your class collects as a whole during first year. I would highly suggest collecting now so that your class will have lots of teeth to work on.

Well, I am on the alternate list, but if I get accepted, I can be the tooth fairy!
