OFFICIAL PRIZKER SCHOOL OF MEDICINE COUNTDOWN THREAD

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This is a general post about Pritzker's financial aid awards.

I see that vyc received her award, I was wondering when she submitted her financial aid information. I have yet to receive my award and I was trying to figure out the turnaround time from the sumbittal of financial information to the actual notification of award. Does anybody here have any information on this?

•••••darn right! I'm glad to hear you made the decision gel1. Its worth it to go to a school you like better, and ESPECIALLY considering the husband in chicago issue.

vyc, stanford? hehe, what kind of a joke of a school is that? :) If thats what you really want then good luck on the waitlist... I can think of a certain Pelican who might like to eat up your spot at pritzker.

The only thing I know about financial aid is that my girlfriend submitted hers around 2/26 and the award letter was sent to her last friday. Unfortunatley they sent it home, and her mom just sent it off to her, so it should be gettin in today or tomorrow.

I submitted mine 3/28 and haven't heard a peep.

I really envy you right now. People ask me every day, and of course I haven't made a decision, but I have only gotten U of M's financial aid package. We'll see . . .•••••Thanks, Nikki! It was really great meeting you. You are a super-nice and intelligent person, and I am sure you'll make the right decision. You are one of the few people I know with an even more difficult decision to make than me. But I must tell you that it feels really great right now to know for sure.

About the financial aid stuff, I think I submitted it in mid-March. They rushed the package to me because of the big monetary decision I had to make. I know that Stacey is working feverishly to pump out everyone's package before the end of April, so hopefully everyone will know soon. It doesn't hurt to email the financial aid office if you have a good reason to need to see the aid as soon as possible.

Called the aid office and they said that all the packs are being prepared in the next two weeks. So we all should be getting them by then.

i submitted my financial aid stuff mid march and got the package a couple days ago to my home address.

the problem with the package is that though they are not expecting my parents to pay anything... i have a TON of loans, mostly UNsubsidized. this sucks.

oh and i'm not really holding out hope for Stanford. i read a post on Allopathic that like everyone who doesn't get accepted gets placed on the 'hold' category.

congratulations to all you guys/gals going to pritzker. I don't have to tell you how great a place it is.

I felt bad for Pelican Man so I recently withdrew from the waitlist to help in any way I could.

There's just one catch, when you are at liver rounds next year, have a beer for the sundevil! That goes for the rest of you as well.

Sundevil

I love you. <img border="0" alt="[Lovey]" title="" src="graemlins/lovey.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Lovey]" title="" src="graemlins/lovey.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Lovey]" title="" src="graemlins/lovey.gif" />

so peli, you call the office to find out if they've ranked their waitlist yet? or done whatever it was they said would happen 'around the end of April?'

looking to send my third update (received a 2,500 award for my presentation at a conference, other senior-recognition 'stuff'). But if they've already done their stuff, might as well hold out.

I am going to call them tomorrow.

I will post anything useful.

I'll bite and keep the thread alive with another good luck!! :)

Just updating...I just got a letter letting me know that they were not pursuing my application any longer...so I was on the waitlist and they just rejected me and it is not even May 15th yet. Sucks...oh well I would have declined anyway... Good Luck to all of you that are still waiting.

NYPB,

where are you going to go?

I received a letter from them yesterday asking whether I was stilli nterested in being on their waitlist. It also says the waitlist is not ranked, and they anticipate about twenty offers
of acceptance will be made from this list.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

I'm officially on the waitlist.

YEAH.

Hey Pelican,
Just wanted to let you know I've been following your pursuit of this school with interest. I've got my fingers crossed for you RRREEEAAALLLYYY hard. Good Luck!!!

thanks racergirl

it seems that i have become famous for my devotion to Pritzker.

I am feeling pretty good about it at the moment. I hope my dreams aren't shattered.

I will try to find out my position on the waitlist. I will post anything new or important.

pelican: CONGRATS on graduation! I had a grad party the following day with a bunch of my friends who graduated from at UF, USF, UNF this weekend. It was great to see all the old high school buddies together again. SUrprised we all kept in such tight contact over all those years.

I also am still on the waitlist! I actually called Audrey to set up a phone meeting with Sylvia for this morning and it went real well. She told me they just contracted their waitlist and that I was selected to remain on it and had to confirm my place on it. She told me I was doing 'all the right things' and kept reassuring me that all the things I updated her with were going to look good for the committee. I can't help but get anxious for the acceptance now! But I know, can't get my hopes up and will try and set up the same type of thing at Pitt in the coming week. Better do it soon because come mother's day I'm hitting the road and driving coast-to-coast.

"California, Californiaaaaa.. here we cooooome"

Wow, so only ~ 20 get invited to Pritzker off of the waitlist?

Does anyone know how many people are on the second, "amended" waitlist?

W- still hanging in there on the waitlist with the rest of us? What other schools you waiting on and have u been accepted already elsewhere?
As for your Q, I'm going to venture out and say (HOPE!) that they fill 20 seats from our lists.. which means some others who get accepted off the list ultimately go elsewhere.

Pelican told me recently he was told 120 was the number when he spoke to someone in the office. I'll let him confirm that bit o' info.

not sure about that 120 but i wanted to bump this up.

Two more SDNers got in. Nylee [declined for Hopkins] and myself [joing coop and the crew in class of 2006!]

I really hope we can include Pelican and some others with us on this list. we're pulling for you guys!

Congrats, USeF! That's great news. I've been apartment hunting and I'm probably signing my new lease in Hyde Park today. There's a lot available, so start thinking about the next step!

See you in September.

Just found out that I'll be joining the group at Pritzker next year.

Good luck to everyone still on the waitlist!

Well, I have a phone appointment with Sylvian Roberston on Monday and I am going to discuss with her me applying early decision to pritzker.

I WANT TO GO TO PRITZKER AND NOWHERE ELSE.

Is the waitlist still going to move at all?

for those of you who are going to Pritzker, where are you living?!?!?

the housing search is stressing me out!
but hopefully, tomorrow everything will be sorted out and i'll know where i'm living.

does anyone with a car want to be my friend and take my grocery shopping and stuff? :)

Pelicanman,

Good idea on the appointment with Sylvia. I did the same, following advice from USeF. When I called for my phone appointment she said "I'm glad you called. . ." and made me an offer. I don't know if it was a coincident, but I was sure glad I called.

Good Luck.

Definitely talk to Sylvia. I had a similar experience as Guitarman. I hadn't heard from them so I called Sylvia in May and a few days later I was accepted. Good luck.

As for housing. Yeah, the housing search is starting to stress me out. I'm going there in two weeks to look for a place so I hope there are plenty of places left. My plan right now is to call all of the management companies and apartment complexes they listed on the housing guide and then just look at as many places as I can. vyc, what management company or who are you working with right now? Are you going to take a place sight unseen?

My inquiry with Sylvia as to applying early decision didn't go well.

She told me not to apply early decision to Pritzker.

And she told me that the class is set so you will probably not get in this year.

+pissed+ +pissed+ +pissed+ :( :(

kibosh,

i have called about a zillion apartments in hyde park.
the apartment complex that i liked the most was the flamingo but it's a bit far since i won't have a car my first-year.
so i THINK that i am getting a place much closer to campus. it is an apartment on 56th street, between kimbark and kenwood.
i'm taking over the lease from a 5th year student.

i would recommend the flamingo, though i'm not sure how many rooms they have left.
algonquin/twin towers and the versailles seemed pretty good too.

and yes, i'm doing the housing search from home, and not visiting Chicago.

oh try looking on apartments.com

I don't understand why she would tell you not to apply early decision to Pritzker. By now, she must know fully well just how much you wanna go there. I agree that early decision is not a wise thing to do in most cases. But with you, your heart is so set on Pritzker. Besides, I don't understand why they would discourage anyone from applying early decision to their own school. What reasons did she give?

Pelicanman, don't give up! I had to apply twice myself, and I can remember how bummed out I was around this time last year. But now all of that seems like a distant past. Reapplying sucks, I know. But it just seems that these are dues that some of us are made to pay for whatever reason and you'll be better off for it in the long run. I truly believe this.

I don't think all is lost by her advising you not to apply early decision. I can't remember where I read it, one of the books you can buy (or in my case browse at Borders) that talks about all the schools. Anyway, I believe that I read that Pritzker only accepts a couple of people through early decision. If this is the case, it could be a bit risky if there are many other people out there applying early decision to U of C. If you don't get in EDP, then you are a little behind on the application cycle to other schools. From some of my discussions with Sylvia, it seemed to me that getting the AMCAS and secondary in early was pretty important. Maybe that would be a better route, Pelicanman. Reapply now and get that secondary off soon after you receive it and be on the early end of the application cycle since Pritzker does rolling admissions.

hey pelicanman-
i don't post often but my friends and i have been following your pritzker travails. hang in there. your persistence and enthusiasm are two qualities any medical school class would be lucky to get! good luck with everything.
