*~*~*~*Official TMDSAS Questions Thread 2018-2019*~*~*~*

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I submitted my application on June2nd, but had issues with my letter writers as one of them forgot to sign. Signed letter got uploaded 3days ago.Everything else including my secondaries are done. When can I expect it to be processed? Is it going to be a late application?
The TMDSAS verification process mainly involves checking for completion and verifying your transcripts against the coursework you filled in. If you had already assigned the letter from that recommender to all your schools, yes they will wait until the letter is re-processed to transmit your application to schools. It does not mean that the rest of your app has to be processed again. This should mean only a slight delay in transmission, and you are still way early in the game.

Ok, rephrasing of my cluttered question. Did you all include merit scholarships you received from the university in the academic recognition section? If yes, how did you include it (just a basic description of how you got it, or how much money you got, or how it impacted your university study, etc.)?

Are we enable to add addition LOR's later? Like not change the evaluator, but just add another one after submission?

TMDSAS Medical: Homepage

Read the directions carefully on the TMDSAS site and use your judgement. Letters from doctors you shadow are not really valuable because they don't get to know you, professors and research contacts are. Don't send more than the number asked for on the school applications.

Do we get an email once the application had been processed and transmitted to the schools?

If we are listing an activity in multiple categories for the Employment & Activities section, should we copy and paste the hours or list the hours as "0" the second time we list the activity? It seems the former method would duplicate total hours.

also, stats was one of the required courses to apply, but i did not take stats in college. i did in high school. will this factor alone cut my chances? or should i mention somewhere that i plan on taking stats at a local community college within the next year?

Applying as an out of state student, how late is too late to be applying?
OOS students to have a chance in Texas should have stats above our averages (GPA 3.6-3.7 and MCAT 509). Have you begun the application yet? If your stats are competetive try to get everything in before the end of August at the latest.

Has anyone had trouble with the appeals process for prerequisites (way past 1 week after transmission)? I was reviewing my app before an interview next month, and noticed TMDSAS says I only have 1 semester of gen chem. This is technically true, as my school does a 1 semester gen chem course, but I want my Physical Chemistry course to be listed as Gen Chem. I plan to call on Monday, Im just worried they may be ornary about it even though the TMDSAS site says physicsl chem courses can be counted as Gen Chem.

im almost done with my application, my gpa is above that but my mcat is below that but i have alot of valuable extracurricular experiences. im almost done with my app but was beginning to get second thoughts since its almost august

I have a question about errors in TMDSAS. I made a couple of small errors like in the family section and then I mistakenly selected that I did not apply to Non-TMDSAS schools when I did. When bringing them up into interviews (if I even get one), do I provide an explanation for it or is it just to point out the error and say it was a mistake? These aren't super tragic errors IMO, but just wondering how they take it?

Is there any way to update schools on new activities that wasn't on my primary (ex: new job, new clinical experiences, etc.)?

You can make changes to only a few sections of the application after it has been submitted, these mostly pertain to your contact information and coursework plans, if any changes are anticipated. New jobs or activities are not among the things that you can go back and edit. However, make note for yourself of anything that you have done since you submitted the app, and it will give you some good things to talk about during an interview, and will also demonstrate that you didn't just quit learning and gaining experiences at the minute you turned in your application :angelic:
From the instruction manual:
  1. Notification of Changes to Application
After submitting your application, you must notify TMDSAS of certain changes to the application.
    1. You can make changes to the following sections by logging back in to the application: Contact Info, Colleges Attended, College Coursework, Planned Enrollment, My Account and Test Scores.

and also for these other kinds of changes you must contact TMDSAS directly:
      1. You must notify TMDSAS in writing via either email or application message system of the following changes:
      1. Change of Evaluator
      2. Felonies & Misdemeanors: within ten business days of the occurrence of the criminal charge or conviction.
      3. Disciplinary Action: You must notify TMDSAS and each school within ten business days of the occurrence of the institutional action.

*Question*
Employment and Activities > Employment
If I held one job for years, but the hours/week changed between seasons (prior to entering college, freshman year, etc.) should I create multiple records for this one job separated by season in order to more accurately record the hours/week I worked? It would just feel weird clumping it all together and recording some average number among the 3 years that I held the job.

If I should make one record for each season I held that job, then should I write the Start and End dates on each record as my official Start and End dates or should I write them reflecting the season that I'm recording for?

Sorry, this is very confusing for me! Thank you in advance for the help!

Does the "Pre-Match Offer Withdrawal" link under pending actions on TMDSAS populate for everyone that has attended an interview?

It says come back at a later time basically! Hopefully it also means good news :joyful:

mine too, and from looking at past SDN threads, apparently it is normal. As much as I hope it is an indicator of something more, it's probably just standard. Though maybe someone will report not having it, at which point: #feelsbad but #yay 😀

by what date do TMDSAS schools need to submit their ranking of interviewees? Is it January 18th like it is for students? Essentially, when should I send in a letter of intent or interest by to ensure that it is read by the adcom and, if possible, factored into their ranking of students?

If we submit a rank list now we don't automatically drop any prematch offers right? Since we can still go back and change/resubmit until 1/18?

Play around with your match list and make your decisions. Don't offically submit it until you are sure.

Just realized that I made a small typo on my app stating that my gen chem course was 1 hr when it was actually 3 hrs. Figured this out after receiving a notification from a school i pre-matched to stating that I needed to complete the gen chem requirement prior to matriculation. Can this be fixed by calling TMDSAS? Or will the school fix it once they get my final transcripts? I'm a little more worried about this than I probably should be but that might just be my neurotic self kicking in

I would call or email the school about it. Tell them you made a typo on the application and that your transcript properly displays 3 hours. If this doesn't answer the issue or if your chem class just finished, send another official transcript. Congrats on the pre-match!

So I prematched to a Texas school and submitted fafsa back in November also. Just received financial aid package of loans and it’s requiring acceptance of loans within 2 weeks of email. I am still waiting on a decision from an amcas school though. So my question is if I accept the financial aid loans through Texas school and get accepted later to the other school, will this effect getting financial aid loans through fafsa at the amcas school?

Did everyone else's school preference rankings disappear when the deadline hit? Want to make sure nothing went wrong with my submission!

Disappeared after I refreshed the page at 5:01
Yes, pretty common to have the portal be non-responsive when there is a change in the system or a deadline has passed.
In this case:
1. Deadline for ranking your preferences passed on Jan 18 at 5 pm
2. They don't want anyone to think they can still go change their minds/change their order
3. TMDSAS will be entering the Match results data ready for y'all to view on Feb 1.
The system may jam up when you all log in at 8:01. Go have a cup of coffee or do 50 jumping jacks to burn off your anxious energy and come back to try again :xf:

TMDSAS just posted the statistics from last year's applicant cohort (EY 2018) Pore over it here:

Did you ever figure out how to appropriately answer this question? I am also dealing with the same exact dilemma currently and am unsure of how to classify myself.

@tlwolf they have defined it a little better in the 2019-2020 handbook. Quoted from page iii of the Glossary:

First generation-Graduate:

A student with neither parent having any education beyond an undergraduate degree (includes education outside the US).

First Generation-Undergraduate:

A student with neither parent having any education beyond high school (includes education outside the US).

In your case, since your mother did attend some college (education beyond high school) you would answer "no".
