(1-year Internship) University of Illinois Chicago Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

One Non-categorical Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Internship position is available at University of Illinois Chicago (UIC).

This is a great option for candidates who wish to experience the full scope of the specialty, to expand their knowledge, and to potentially apply to postgraduate OMS residency training programs. The non-categorical interns share the same clinical and didactic exposure, responsibilities, and expectations as the categorical 1st year OMS residents. In addition to the robust training scope, for interns who plan on applying for residency, the program goes to great lengths year round to prepare the applicants for residency application, in a highly individualized manner. We have had great success in having our interns match into an OMS residency programs of their choice following the internship year.

For any inquiries, or to apply, please email Program Director Dr. Michael Han at [email protected]. For applications, please make sure to submit a CV and a PASS application (if applicable).

1-year Internship in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in Nashville, TN at the Oral Surgical Institute.

Incredible opportunity for a dedicated candidate who wants to be exposed to full-scope surgery while enjoying all that Nashville, TN has to offer. Instead of being the 3rd or 4th set of hands during a procedure, you are one-on-one with our attendings whether it be performing orthognathic surgery in the hospital, removing lesions in an ASC, or dentoalveolar procedures in clinic. Your exposure to outpatient anesthesia is second to none and you have ample time to improve your candidacy for a future categorical position. Our goal is simple: Make you the best candidate for an OMFS residency program you can be. Recent interns have matched at Louisville, Shreveport, and South Carolina to name a few.

Please click here to fill out our simple application and email to Program Director Dr. Adam Pitts at [email protected].

I'm one of the PGY-3 rising chiefs at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. We are actively looking for a qualified candidate to participate in a one-year non-categorical OMS internship in Philadelphia, PA.

We had 5 non-categorical interns this year, and all 5 matched into 4 and 6 years programs throughout the country. The year prior, 5 of 5 non-categorical interns matched. We have had very good success in this area, and are careful to select people we feel strongly will match in the next cycle.

This position is an excellent opportunity to prepare you if you are reapplying to the OMS match in 2024. You will be working daily and directly under the supervision of multiple oral surgeons and will directly participate in surgical cases. Our program would expose you to all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery, including teeth and titanium, orthognathic, trauma, TMJ, free flap and local flap reconstruction surgeries.

If you are interested in this position, please contact our Program Coordinator Ms. Joanna Schultz <[email protected]>. You must be attending or have graduated from an accredited US or Canadian dental school (or an advanced placement program). If qualified, we will set up a Zoom interview with our Program Director in the coming days.

Thank you in advance for your interest in our program!

Feel free to DM me with any question!

Hey everyone, I am one of the rising chiefs at Montefiore Medical Center OMFS program. We are actively looking for two qualified candidates to participate in our one-year, non-categorical OMFS internship position. We have a very solid success in matching our non-categorical interns to various progams in the country.

The position will highly prepare you to match in 2024. The non-cat interns at Montefiore work directly with senior residents and under the guidance of our attending surgeons on a daily basis. You will be responsible for being active and seeing patients in our three clinics in the Bronx, NY. There is a well established didactic portion of the year which you will be presenting weekly powerpoint's in a multitude of areas including pathology, reconstruction, trauma, implant rehabilitation, and dentoalveolar. We have a full scope OMS program but we do not do cancer; our colleagues with the Plastics and ENT departments handle the flaps at our hospital system.
You will get excellent dentoalveolar experience and outpatient anesthesia experience at our program.

To qualify for the position and due to NY state rules/laws you must have completed a GPR program already.

Thank your showing interest in our program!

Please message me here if you are interested or you can contact our PD - Dr. Jairo Bastidas @ [email protected] - you can send your CV to him directly

If you have any thoughts or questions about the position or about our program, please message me. Happy to help anyway I can!

OMFS Internship at UMKC

UMKC School of Dentistry in Kansas City, Missouri is looking to fill two non-categorial internship positions. Non-categorical interns have the same responsibilities as categorical interns. Duties include:
  • Running the OMFS clinic at the UMKC School of Dentistry
  • Taking in-house call (q4-5) at Truman Medical Center and Children's Mercy Hospital
    • OMFS covers trauma 365/24/7 at both hospitals; we do not share with ENT or plastics
  • Assisting in the OR
  • Participating in weekly lectures and monthly journal club
Personal Experience: I am currently a non-categorical intern at the dental school. At this point, I'm comfortable interpreting CTs, repairing complex facial/scalp lacerations, doing bedside I&Ds of dental infections and PTAs, managing facial fractures, placing patients into MMF with ivy loops or arch bars, and dentoalveolar procedures (extractions of impacted teeth, alveoloplasties, socket preservations, tori removals, soft tissue reductions, etc.). The culture here is awesome. I've already made some lifelong friends in the short amount of time I've been here. Next year's chiefs and upper levels are fantastic and will always be there when you need 'em. Lastly, I don't know if I'll match on Monday, but I did get 20+ interview invites this cycle, and I had plenty to talk about when asked about my experiences as an intern.

If you're interested, please send your CV and CBSE score (if you've taken the exam) to Dr. Kao at [email protected].

Feel free to DM me if you've got any questions.
