OSU-COM Discussion Thread 2009-2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So, I checked my phone at 5:15. Missed call from Dr. Stewart at 4:00. Her message only said to call her back as soon as possible!

I'm in McAlester for the weekend... And now I am going to face a weekend of uncertainty. Dude! Did I get in? Was she just toying with my emotions? Who calls with news on a Friday afternoon?

Congrats to all who got in! I'm looking forward to Monday morning!:xf:

How was the interview day? Were you guys able to meet each other from the forum? Seem like the class would be a strong group?
I've read that your medical education in yrs 1 and 2 depends alot on how strong the class is as a whole. The better the class (smarter, friendlier, works together) the better they all do on the COMLEX and USMLE. They cause each other to be better

You know what it was for, they don't call for bad news or just to chat.

They only call to give acceptances. Waitlists and denials are only done via USPS snail mail 7 day select lol.
Plus the UPS package arriving tomorrow (hopefully tomorrow and not monday since I was told they were sent overnight) should remove any doubt.

*For all those accepted and those interviewing and/or just waiting... Join the Facebook group!

Congrats on the acceptance! Any idea of your decision between OSU and RVU?

Thank you. OSU. I'm both glad and proud to have this great school in my home state. Congrats to you as well!

Wow - Congrats to all of you newly accepted Med students!!

No one has posted a rejection or a waitlist yet? Hmmh
Ive read that by being in the first groups to interview you're their prime choice and you really have to screw the interview up to not get it. Any other takes on that anomally? Might just be wishful thinking since I'm in the 2nd round🙂

I'm a 3.8 cGPA, 3.75 sGPA, and 26S MCAT - with B.S., M.S., and almost done with a 2nd B.S (>200 hours).
I've got lots of Academic honors and a TON (literally 100's of hours) of EC's - all community and health related. Then again, I am 29! lol

This is my first time to apply to med school - just decided a year ago. OSU is my first choice - looks like a great education

You mean you're only 29 and just getting started! Go RevDoc! Finally, someone else with as many credit hours as I have. I've got a BBA, MBA, and one more semester till a BS in Biology. Pushing about 220 undergrad credit hours myself.

Yes, I've always been told that an early interview is best. But, as a wise friend of mine said, there are no guarantees. I didn't consider myself in until I got that phone call, and I still want to hold the acceptance letter in my hands.

That being said, OSU is very non-trad friendly. One of my interviewers told me that they really like to see applicants that are returning to pursue medicine after having a previous career. Your stats and ECs seem great. I'm sure you'll do just fine. Best of luck to you.

Thanks for the votes of confidence.

WhatsNext, if I'm only 29, then how old are you?

Hi guys. Does first round=Oct interviews, second round=Nov interviews and 3rd round=Dec? Or was the first day of interviews=1st round, 2nd day=2rd round and so on?

I consider a round to be all of the interviews that are conducted before the adcom meets to make a decision on the interviews

Argh. I missed the phone call today, too. I need to get a freakin cell phone.

Just One and Marsh - what are your stats?

I posted earlier too, but I will again.

3.75 overall 3.69 science B.S. and MPH. I made all A's last 85 hours of undergrad and graduate course work. MCAT is low, 25P, lots of medical and volunteer experience though. I am 25 and currently working at the state health department.

Really? WOW! Ease into it though, try one that only makes calls (if they still make those)

Are you Fred Flintsone and Barney Rubbles neighbor! The stone age has been over for. Few years or so!

Good to know I'm not the oldest (not that being the oldest is bad Whats Next). Kind of relieved to know that it wouldn't be me and bunch of young'uns. Anybody else over 25 and actually been "out of school?"

I am 33 turn 34 in march been in marines (infantry) and taught hs sci for 6 years.

congrats iatros! There are a bunch of you cats from Edmond. Are yall all friends?

Saylorsdad - thanks for serving! Are you planning on being a military doc? Is this your first go at med school?

Me not so much, I know two people on here but thats about it.

Hi, I am new to this site and after spending way too much time on it, I see how helpful it really is!

I have an interview Nov 12...what round is that?
Any advice for preparation?

Second round, just look over the interview feedback here on SDN.

Just Me - welcome! Marsh and I are both scheduled for Nov 12th as well. Anoyone else out there want to fess up to a Nov 12th interview?

Congrats to all those who have interviews comming and especially to those new to the site. My only advice is to be genuine, relaxed and confident. Come prepared and realize they just want to get a feel for who you are.

By the way, no UPS for me today so hopefully Monday!

Congrats to all! good luck to those awaiting interviews. No worries UPS only delivers M-F.

UPS has Saturday delivery option and I didn't know if overnight qualified for that... Oh well, just makes my Monday better than a typical Monday tomorrow!

OK, I have exams so couldn't sign up for the next available round......so I am not going till November 20! Since I'm OOS, I'm starting to freak out that my chances will be very very slim by then! You guys who were talking about the 85% who get accepted during first round, etc., do you have any insight on OOS acceptances during 3rd and 4th rounds? Thanks!

OSU doesn't use the Saturday delivery option. I do remember wanting to actually see my acceptance letter! Until then you think did I here it right?
If you received a phone call your acceptance package is on its way! 🙂

When Dr. Stewart called me, she did say to look for it on Saturday. But a no show.

Its cool, it'll just make my mundane monday just a tad better!

Dr. Stewart is out of the office today. Now she's just toying with my emotions.

No plans on being a military doc, I plan on family medicine in Oklahoma. If I specialize it would be IM which is still considered General Practice.

Mine too, even came with secret handshake instructions

Seemingly minor point, but one that'll keep you from ticking off FM docs.

If you do more than an internship year after medical school, you will specialize in something. Family medicine *is* a medical specialty.

So Nov 12 interviewees or anyone else...Do you think we will know acceptance status before Thanksgiving?

That's what I was thinking...I hope that is the case so the holiday won't be full of wondering!

I don't think I could wait that long, but who knows. It will be close, I am thinking Nov 23. Did anybody get accepted on here with a MCAT as low as 25?

This year not that I know of, but in previous years there have been some. I believe it depends on your Gpa and other factors to balance you out. Good luck though!
