Pacific Northwest University (PNWU-COM) Discussion Thread 2015 - 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congratulations!!! Do you mind checking your portal status to see if it reads "Offer / 11/24/2015"? Mine has changed to this and I'm trying to not get too excited at this point as I haven't received a phone call
Yes, my portal has changed to "Offer" Congrats to you too!

Also interviewed 11/20 and accepted around 3 PM PST!

Do you guys think there are any spots left for applicants if I am interviewing December 5?

Last cycle when I interviewed in January they had already filled up 90 spots out of 140. I'm pretty sure they'll be plenty of spots available for your December interview. Good luck.

Don't sweat it. A bunch of people who have been accepted but haven't paid their deposits by December 14th will have their admissions offer dropped so a lot of spots will probably open up.

Also interviewing Dec 5th and had similar concerns expressed above. Does anyone know the approximate number of interviewees per session? And if that number remains constant throughout the interview process?

Just scheduled an interview for March 25th. Hopefully there will be some spots left by the time I get around to interviewing.

Wow... submitted 11/19, waiting to be complete..I have no hope now

I interviewed on one of the first interview dates. We had 64 people that day. IDK if they interview that many people during later dates in the cycle or if they adjust it based on how many seats they have.

Right there with you. I think that this is the very last day of interviews. I'm glad I got scheduled, but that is kind of late... :/

I was part of the afternoon session on 11/20 and LeAnn had mentioned that everyone in our room was present because all the seats were full. I believe I remember counting 32 people, and if the morning session was the same amount, that puts us at 64.

Edit: Corrected for #

For those who have sent in their acceptance and deposit, has the self service website updated your material as received?

I interviewed on their first day 10/2 and we had 32 people. I heard the second day 10/3 had 64 people which is more normal for them. It most likely ranges between those 2 numbers.

First off, several of my classmates were pulled off the wait list so please don't be disheartened if you get wait listed!

Secondly, I don't know if any of the December 5th interviewees are interested but I'm going to be studying at Northtown Coffee here in town from about 7 on the night of the 4th. If you have any questions or just want a reassuring pep-talk feel free to drop by the coffee shop! I'll wear my PNWU sweater with the big logo on it just in case any of you want to drop by.

Trisha said that the web site will be uploaded in January, that is when they will start collecting all matriculation documents as well. They are a little busy with interviewing right now 🙂

Hi, I'm interviewing on March 25 (unless an earlier date opens), so I obviously won't be able to see you there. However, I just wanted to say thank you for your willingness to do this. Medical school is busy and competitive, and I really appreciate that people like you exist. I hope that someone will be able to get that extremely-needed support from you before their interview. Happy Holidays!

So I've been checking my portal like crazy but I'm still on committee and it's been over 6 weeks. Are we supposed to hear something by now...or should I just continue waiting it out? 🙁

It took mine about a month and a half to get an interview as well. They'll let you know if it's a yes or no, so hope isn't gone yet.

Anytime! If it's something people are interested I'd like to do it for the next few interviews. It's fun for me getting to know you guys and helping people see how awesome this school is. Plus, I remember having a lot of questions and uncertainty the night before my interview and would have enjoyed talking to someone on the other side of it.

So I shouldn't be worried that my items still say not received even though it's been almost a month since I sent in my stuff?

I would not.
I called and payed over the phone, and my credit card was definitely charged but the web site has not been updated either.
For your peace of mind, I would probably just call admission and ask if everything has been received, but again they told me nothing will be updated until January. 🙂

When does the interview day end? The latest flight I can book is 4:46PM out of Yakima

Hey guys, I'm here and at the table right next to the guard rail ( it will make sense when you get here ). Drop by anytime but I'm probably going to head out around 9-9:30

Hey fellow accepted students! How did you guys pay your deposits? I'm having a hard time finding information on my offer or the portal...

Can anyone explain the clinical rotation quality? Preceptor based rotations seem to allow for much greater experience and exposure. Can any current student point to quality of rotations? Interviewing here next month.

I've scoured the forum for a hour can't seem to find anything substantial outside of good rotations for gen surg im and fm at Portland site....

There is always a super long list--I'm sure you'll still get a spot before school though. Also, even with the no-pet policy, there are plenty of people living there who have pets 😱
I live in those apartments, I want a pet. What are the chances of me getting caught and in trouble?:cyclops:

I interviewed on the corresponding date last year (3/2015) with several students in my class. They may tell that all of the seats are full by that point, and the best you can do is the waitlist, but they pull quite a few people off the waitlist. There is hope! Go in like you're in the first group of interviewees: be confident, be yourself, have fun! Good luck.

Some are better than others. I've heard a few stories of people being at the Portland site and having to do some of their rotations at towns pretty far from Portland. I haven't actually talked to anyone who was placed there though, so take that for what it's worth. You have to realize going in that you're going to take what you can get.

That being said, I have talked to older students who really do commend some of the rotation sites/preceptors. I'd say it's a lot to do with your attitude and outlook on your own education. You get out what you put in.

Adcom is meeting today! Good luck everyone! I know that acceptances are received via phone call, but what about waitlists/rejections?

The rejections and waitlists are sent via a letter in the mail. I know they said our portal status would change too. I did not know if that change would happen later today or not so you could see "offer" becore they called you. Do you know how the adcom works? Do the deans and staff we did not meet review the interview notes and our other parts of our application including resume amd experience at once?

What I understand is that yes they do go over your whole application when making the final decision. Anything besides that, I haven't been informed.

First time posting here, but long time lurker 😛 I was just waitlisted and was wondering is there anyway to determine your position on the waitlist? Is it considered inappropriate to call them and ask?

Thanks! 🙂

I was just waitlisted as well. Has there been much turnover on the waitlist yet? I doubt that they would tell you your position on the list, but let us know what they say.

If you dont mind me asking, when did you interview and how did you find out about waitlist. I thought we would recieve it through mail? I interviewed 12/5 and am nervous since there doesn't seem to be a change online.

My portal had been "complete" for over a month. How long did it take to change to "committee" for you guys?

New to this thread. I just got my portal status to "Committee." About how long have people been in this status? Weeks? Days?

Edit: Also, are there typically any days of the week that ii's go out?

Last year they ranked people on the waitlist in May or so. I do not think they would have a ranking yet since there are still many interview dates left. It would probably be hard to rank anyone since the more people they interview the more the waitlist rankings would change. I did see a post where someone was offered matriculation from the waitlist after one of the interview dates. So it seems that it's possible to get an offer if you are high on the waitlist. They did send in a letter of intent and updates to their application. Hope that helps.

My status was changed online this afternoon to 'waitlisted'. So I already sent in a LOI and additional LORs

Probably pretty small. It's WA state law that landlords have to provide 48hr notice before entering the apartment (unless it's an emergency like a flood or something). You could just hide a pet in that amount of time (at least that's what I did at my last place:whistle:).

Walked by one of the offices a minute ago and heard them calling people offering admissions. Good luck everyone!

I've been on committee for two months... Anyone else?

Secondary was complete 8/5, Interview invite 10/26, Interviewed 12/5, Accepted today! So there is hope for those of you who have been in committee a while. I think I was definitely a bit of an underdog so that may have been why it took a bit for an interview invite. I definitely would encourage you to send in updates or maybe even a letter of interest.🙂 Good luck!
