Pacific Northwest University (PNWU-COM) Discussion Thread 2015 - 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I don't think we can disclose specific information like that.. My advice on interview day is to live in the moment, know your application, and show your true self. You're interviewing for medical school! That's a huge accomplishment. Enjoy the experience and try to relax 🙂
Good luck!
I just want to know if the group interview means group of interviewees or interviewers

I got a II and am in disbelief. I have a high gpa) but a subpar MCAT under 25. Do I have a shot here? Will I get destroyed about my score during the interview? This is my third interview this cycle so far and my MCAT score came up in one and not the other. I was accepted...I felt that I was good with my current school but this is a potential gamechanger, this school and PCOM were my reach for the stars dream schools

Just wanted to say congratulations! Posts like this give me hope that people with odd scores and underdogs have a chance!! 🙂

I got an interview and am also a little surprised (extremely excited and grateful though). My stats are far from the best, 3.1 GPA, 26 MCAT and I'm out of state, if PNWU values verbal heavily that may be the reason I stood a fighting chance here. Can't wait to interview!!

Congratulations! When were you moved to committee, if you don't mind me asking?

verbal subscore of MCAT?
They don't based on my own experience lol. I have a terrible verbal score.
Congrats and good luck!

Congrats! I was in the similar boat with high GPA but low MCAT ( under 25) and ultimately gained acceptance. However, they want physicians who WANT to stay in the PNW.

II today woo! Been on committee since 9/11. 3.7cGPA, 3.6 sGPA, 505 MCAT, not from the beautiful Pacific Northwest!

I got an interview here as well. I'm from the NW in the "WWAMI" region. Really would love to stay up here for medical school. Was assigned to committee 10/15. 3.68cGPA 3.9sGPA, 507 MCAT.

Congrats on the acceptance! My science GPA is around a 3.3 - 3.4. I think I might send them an email or call them to find out, thanks! 🙂
Hi MeEhYoung,
Have you contacted them? How did they explain rejection of such a solid application?

Just got the secondary. I'm worried I'm late, does anyone know how full the class is? Thank you.

Anyone on here interviewing Nov 13? I interviewed here last year but was really late in the cycle. Hoping that interviewing in November is better for me than January! So nervous and excited!

@DOHopeful2015 and @Dustbowl12 looks like you both got invites the same day I did. Have you guys received an e-mail to schedule yet? My status on the portal changed from "Complete" to "Interview" on Wednesday, but I haven't received an e-mail about scheduling the interview. On my checklist it says a "due date" for Monday, so I want to make sure I didn't accidentally delete something... 😛

Is there anywhere that we can send application updates? Ive been on committee for awhile and am hoping to nudge them into hopefully extending an invite my way

Yes I got an email with available dates

Just send them to Tricia Worthington or Hope Ennis. They are the ones that monitor the admissions@pnwu address.

Current students, what is it like living in Yakima? It kind of carries a bad rap where I am from, but hoped to get an opinion straight from the source! Thanks.

Has anyone been rejected pre-interview? (Post Complete Status)

I am pretty sure there are people who get rejected after submission of their secondaries and do not receive an interview. These are the stats that are posted from the school so it should give you an idea of how many people are not offered an interview.

College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) Applicants (for entrance into the 2015-16 AY):
  • Number of applications received: 4295
  • Number of supplemental applicants: 1780
  • Number of applicants invited to interview: 871
  • Number of offers made: 263

For anyone who has sent their deposit in, has your portal on self service updated your checklist? It's been over a week since they received my deposit and paperwork but it still says that it is pending.

Portal changed to interview! Still have yet to receive an email. I was set on committee since 9/11

current students, how are the rotations? are they exclusively preceptor based? any at ACGME Residency affiliated hospitals?

I emailed Hope last week about it since I didn't see any update in the portal just to make sure it wasn't lost somewhere in the mail. She said she is going to process everything soon. I'm guessing before the next round of interviews take place.

Rejected pre-interview today. Sorta bummed but I also got an acceptance and II at two awesome schools today. Good luck everyone!

Update about FB page: yes we do need to coordinate it with student affairs 🙂
Hope forwarded my email to student affairs, so hopefully we will hear back soon!

Rejected post-secondary via portal (no email). Complete 9/23, on committee 10/8. Not surprising since I'm from the east coast.

@lyana - Thanks for coordinating the FB page with Hope and student affairs. Hopefully we will hear back soon and be able to meet some of our future classmates! 🙂

Withdrew my interview due to other acceptances. Good luck everyone

So far Yakima has been great. There is a local YMCA just couple miles down the street from the school. Costco is only 10 minute drive. Frankly, I don't know what the rap about Yakima is, if there is any. The air is clear, everything you want to do is within couple hours from the school.

II today. My app went to committee on 9/11. I'm another high GPA/low MCAT applicant. I grew up in Northern California, but I don't know if that counts as having ties to the area.

Got my II a few days ago. Was in committee since 9/16. Only Feb and March dates left, and I asked to be notified of any sooner if available.

Can any current students give me an overall satisfaction rating for this school?
I'm a first year, and while med school is tough where ever you go, the school and students they choose go a long way to make it as fun as possible. Professors answer e-mails no matter what time it is, classmates share their resources, and the school is constantly improving and listening to the students ideas in that process. We also have all sorts of extras. Last week we had primary care week so we had panels speaking at lunch all week and a lot of extra fun activities. We have a talent show coming up, basketball tournaments being planned, pretty much anything the students show an interest in.

What region of Northern California are you from? You don't have to answer if you want but I am also from Northern California. I'm just interested in how PNWU views NorCal.

I grew up in the Bay Area, but then I moved to upstate NY for college and I've here ever since.

I was waitlisted post interview here, doesn't matter because I got into my top choice Western U!

Hey guys I know I am a little late (funds) but what is the character limit for the prompt? I my primary application should be verified here soon and I am trying to get things pre-written so that I can help myself out a little.

It's one page, single or double spaced is your preference.

I think it finally hit me yesterday that I will be attending the med school next fall lol.
I have not heard anything from the student affairs about Facebook page yet, but I just wanted to share how excited I am to meet everybody in August. Every student I met during the interview was super chill and cool, so I am sure we will have an awesome class of 2020. woooot wooot.

To those who have been accepted, this might be a stupid question but where did you find all the documents that must be filled out with the deposit? I am on my portal and I do not see anything...
Also did you guys just send check or can we pay it online?

Thanks!
