I interviewed last Thursday (Feb. 14) and received an acceptance email today! 😀

My interview was 1/10. I was told to expect 6-8 weeks to hear from them... exactly 6 weeks

I have been reading posts on here and mostly been heart broken for the past few years, but finally got an acceptance today! For anyone who may be worried about their credentials not being good enough, don't give up! Keep trying and it will work out, believe me. It would have been a lot less stressful to have just gotten accepted on Dec. 1st of my first year applying, but my dream came true eventually anyway, and there is so much that I love about this school!

I received the same email today as well. I'm assuming it is just a typo. Congrats on your acceptance!

Accepted :biglove:

but now I have to choose between here or Tufts... No idea what to do.

I got accepted today and interviewed 2/12 as well

I can't believe I got accepted. When I saw the email by Abbey today, with the subject saying "Acceptance E-mail Correction", I thought to myself, "Yup, they sent me an acceptance email by accident yesterday"🙄. I cannot...CANnot...CANNOT believe I got in. Whoo hoo... see you guys at orientation in August.

so did anyone not receive notification yet? i interviewed 1/29 and my portal was updated with my completed pre-reqs yesterday but i haven't got an email or any type of decision.... idk if thats a bad sign or what. crap. maybe they are sending out 2 waves of acceptances? haha

Same thing happened to me, guess we'll find out next week if we get any mail from them.

Hey guys, I'm in the same boat as you. Interviewed on 01/17 and still haven't heard anything. I sent Abbey an email containing info to meet my remaining needed matriculation requirements and in her reply email she told me I would be receiving their decision on me soon. I received her reply email this last Monday (02/18) so I really don't know what to think.

To all those who got acceptances a day or two ago, congrats! Hopefully there's an acceptance or at the very least a wait list spot for the each of the rest of us who still haven't heard anything yet! Keep the faith fellow pre-dents!

I read they have case-based learning... what is that exactly??

If it's anything like AZ (I've seen their schedule is similar), it's no big deal. Every few weeks a small group of you is assigned a case and given some objectives to answer and present. At AZ, you present to only 1 faculty member. It's easy. The case coincides with what you're covering in basic sciences. I think they're okay. They help your science grade a little bit (almost easy points) and they reinforce some concepts and how they apply to dentistry. And if you're not good at public speaking, it's good practice.

Example:
- 54 years old African-American female
- Presents with toothache that needs to be extracted
- Blood pressure 170/110
- Prosthetic heart valve placed 5 months earlier

Articles are provided. You would address things like:
- Significance of that pressure
- What do current guidelines for prophylaxis suggest for that valve? Is she a candidate? Which antibiotic is best?
- What do you do as she sits in front of you in pain? What do you tell her?

I don't know if this is completely real-world. That's just how school does things - textbook. I've only seen a pressure cuff used twice in a dental office. But it helps learn about it. It's a good idea to know these things as a healthcare provider. MWU requires faculty to have real dental experience. This is one of those times it's nice to hear from them, not just an academic dentist.

Interviewed 1/19 and received an acceptance email 2/20 !!!

I'm not positive how they do it at IL. You pretty much get full points if you put some effort in. I guess it depends on who you talk to. Three to four minutes covering a few slides in front of 1 faculty and 4 peers doesn't bother me much. The whole thing is way more casual than it sounds. I remember hearing about it at a pre-dent sim clinic and it seemed intense. It's not.

Interview Invite on 3/1 with options of 4 dates in March. Withdrew application.

Does anyone have an interview this Thursday March 7th?

do you guys know where I can find list of questions they have asked in the past? I can only see one post that posted the questions

They don't repeat questions, there's no way to prepare other than just being yourself.

There are more than one question on the interview feedback.
Personally, I think preparing the questions does help because about 2 or 3 questions in my interview were similar to the questions on the feedback. They were not the same questions, but they talked about the same issues, like finger print/security .......It is always good to be over prepared than unprepared. Good Luck.

People keep messaging me and asking about the interview questions. Honestly you cant fully prepare for ethical questions. Just go in and use your common sense and answer according to your honest opinion. If you cant be yourselves then I dont know what to tell you guys.

Ya my biggest advice is to have fun with it. I remember each interviewer was really nice and had really interesting follow up questions. I feel like a big part of what they were judging is just how you came off while talking to them about their questions. If you have a good time with it it will go a long way

I agree, there were no right or wrong answers as long as you were able to justify your response and thought process. Everyone was extremely nice and made you feel at ease.
Stop requesting questions from those that have interviewed already, why would we give you an unfair advantage???
It really is fun and was by far my favorite school to interview at!

Hey guys. I'm having a hard time deciding whether to attend MWU or not. I was accepted at indiana and I am deciding between the two. Why do u guys want to go to MWU. I'm just worried that it is new!

The Integrated science curriculum (IBSS) is the most appealing thing about MWU to me. At most schools you will have individul classes that are titled things such as Bio Chem, Pharmacology, Histology, etc. Here it is just IBSS, with a general topic that is geared towards dental students. For example. IBSS 1501 is Foundations of Cell Function for Dental Students. So it all has dentistry integrated, which makes a lot of sense to me. They also use a quarter system (spring, fall, winter, and summer) and you get the first summer off of your first year. It is a campus of all professional students, so it is similar to a small undergrad campus. rather than just going to a "dental school", where you are in one building for the most part, and only see the dental students. Those are kind of the three biggest things that set this school apart from the other ones that I have visited.

Oh, the sim lab and clinics are brand new! Kind of nice.

As far as interviews go...I agree with the people who said just be yourself. I feel they do put a lot of emphasis on the interview here, but they just want to see if you can think. They don't want an answer that has been rehearsed ahead of time. Just take some time to think about what you believe in and what you think is right and wrong. If you can back up your answer with honest opinions, then you can't be wrong. Good Luck!

Can anyone give me some info concerning the curriculum at MDW-IL? For example IU and a few other schools incorporate an aspect of PBL. Does MDW-IL have any non traditional teaching techniques? What are they pushing that makes them different? Or am I asking the wrong questions here? are they standard traditional lecture and test set up??---Just saw a few things on IBSS....

There isn't really any PBL at MWU-IL.
Essentially what the curriculum is a traditional lecture format (50 min lecture segments - sit, listen and take notes), but more organized (into modules) rather than scattered subjects. One module will be cell biology, the next might be genetics, the next may be cancer, and so on and so forth.
Once in a while you get something called Active Learning Exercises (ALE) where a professor brings up a real case and talks about it using the concepts/material taught in previous lectures. It's supposed to be interactive with students, and it's sometimes interesting, and the exam questions coming from these exercises are pretty easy.
Tests pretty standard... usually 50 questions multiple choice.

I'm having a really hard time deciding between roseman and mw-il and was wondering if anyone had any insight on how the clinic was coming along at Midwestern. That's pretty much going to be the determining factor for me

I am a current D1 at midwestern-il and the clinic is expected to be completed this spring. It is going to be huge with three floors dedicated to the dental school. Everything will be brand new and state of the art. We already have lists and lists of future patients waiting for the clinic to be open. There should be no worries or concerns whatsoever about the clinic. It will exceed all expectations. We recently just had the accreditation committee tour our school and report that they were extremely impressed with what we currently have going on at Midwestern-CDMI.

I think Im going to give up my seat to go to Tufts... Im so indecisive :scared:

I was accepted from the Jan. 24 group! I think I saw atleast five of us, including myself, that were accepted from our interview group!

Hi, I have also been accepted to Midwestern and was wondering if there is a facebook group we can make for the dental class of 2017 (unless there is already one I can't find) so that we can get in touch before August...? I will create one, but didn't want to in case you guys had already communicated somehow. Thanks

Decided today I'm giving up my acceptance to MWU-IL. I wish you guys luck and I hope everyone that wants to go here gets in!

Just got invited for an interview! 🙂
