How long did it take to receive your interview invite after submitting supplemental?
it's been 3 weeks since I submitted my supplemental and I haven't heard yet. Congrats!

I submitted my supplemental August 18 and they sent me an interview September 17. So around a month.

Is there anyone from Florida that has been called for interview?

Hey guys! Interviewing here sooon!
I was wondering if parents are allowed to come with? At least for the first half of the day?
Do students normally bring parents along?
Thaanks

I haven't seen people bring parents to their interview, it usually doesn't happened. However, some schools, like MOSDOH specifically state that you can bring guests. If the school doesn't state that you can bring guests, I don't think parents or guests are allowed.

Iowa also states that guests are welcomed to the interview, where they have a little cafeteria for them to wait at. In general, I have seen a lot of interviewees dropped off at the schools by their parents, and then the parents pick them up afterwards. Otherwise, I did not see anyone bring their parents into the schools with them when they attended the interviews.

Can someone please help me with any tips on how to prepare for the interview! Its my first interview and I’m nervous. What should I expect? What kind of questions will they ask me? Do they ask any questions about my personal statement/disadvantage letter? Does anyone have a document of questions that help prepare for an interview?
Thank you in advance 🙂

I received my interview on 10/3 and my application was fully submitted on AADSAS on 9/2.

Honestly, you don’t have to prepare, lol. You have a short introduction, tour the clinic and sim clinic for like 3 hours, have lunch with a few D2s (we had 3), and then a little Q&A session with the D2s for an hour, in the room where you’re all held for interviews. There were 12 students, and 2 students were taken to interviews at a time (~20 minutes). Interview was 2 interviewers and 1 applicant (2 on 1). Completely closed file, so they won’t know anything about you, other than the things you will share with them with each response. It’s very laid back—super chill. They’re just trying to know you and determine if you’re a good fit for their school, so just be yourself! It was pretty ez money sniper.

Did the interviewers ask you some ethical questions? I heard they ask us about 2 or 3 ethical questions. If so, were those related to dentistry?

Umm, not related to dentistry. It’s just a simple, general question that you might have to think about for awhile. Don’t be shy to take a few seconds or a minute to think—it’ll tell them more about yourself. No one expects you to answer instantaneously! Again, no “right” or “wrong” answer, just tests your personality.

An example would be this: Would you rather be a successful person or a good person, and how would you justify your choice? Saying a “good person” would be the more modest answer and the “one they like to hear,” but if you can’t defend it, then it makes it look like you’re just saying it to get brownie points. Whereas, we can all talk about the benefits of being a successful person! That’s the type of situation you might be presented.

My official DAT scores were added last week.. does anyone know about how long it will be before a decision? This was my second time taking the DAT. I submitted in July

You submitted your application in July and had retaken the DAT in September? No one has a definitive answer, so not best to ask

I think it has to do with your volunteering to be honest. Did you hear back from other schools? Also, still too early to be worrying. You should expect post December though.

I disagree. It’s probably his DAT which is below the average for accepted students along with applying a couple of months late. You could get some post-December interviews though. That’s always a possibility.

Wait because as mentioned above, admissions receives and looks over applications on a rolling basis which means that it is possible they have not gotten to you yet based on your late submission.

In regards to the DAT -
100% positive that MWU - IL’s admissions committee adds up the 6 individual sections (BIO, OC, GC, PAT, RC, and QR) and collectively, they have to amount to a certain number (I think it was 110 or 115 - sorry for not knowing the exact number). I just know that it was a nice wholesome number that I did not meet by a few points (mine added up to 106 - so I strongly think it was 110). Positive it wasn’t 120 because I remember calculating 6 x 20 at the time and was like phew you don’t need all 20s to go here).

I know this because I went to tour the school and met with their counselor in the admissions office shortly after this cycle opened. When I spoke with someone from the admissions committee 1v1, mainly for input on my DAT, she calculated up my sections in front of me and said mine didn’t meet their cut off and she recommended for me to re-take it. I mentioned my extracurriculars and GPA and she still strongly advised for a re-take. :asshat:

How strict they are on this cut off is clearly out of my range of expertise but yea food for thought I suppose for those who are curious lolz.

Stay positive and never stop working on your application. All the best.

If you don’t hear back by January or February then I’d strongly recommend studying for the DAT and taking it by June 2020 in anticipation of the next cycle. Your GPA is great and if you’ve only taken the DAT once then you’ve got nothing else to worry about besides increasing your score which is totally doable. Be optimistic about your situation and you’ll succeed.

I did hear back from 2 schools and I already interviewed there.

Is there any chance that I hear back with an interview if I applied June 4th? cGPA: 3.39 sGPA: 2.99 (included both of my ochem 1 grades and not just the second) DAT AA: 22 TS: 23 PAT: 22... Thanks!

You should be totally fine weather wise, it’s definitely already cold here (well at least to me, I’m a fellow Texan lol) but snow is unlikely considering daytime temps are only in the 50s/60s right now. Although if it does snow by then I’ve been told it would be very mild. My only advice is to get a flight at a decent time the day before just to account for any possible delays and I stayed at a hotel about 2 miles from campus and made sure they had a shuttle that could take me but you’d be fine ubering or lyfting as well!

Lmaooo sweet. Same in all 3 sciences. Did you pull any other interviews?
omg sorry this is so late! i haven't had the chance to log in in awhile, but I interviewed at SIU on 9/17, and I just got an interview invite yesterday from Roseman University

Does everyone get a supplemental? And if you do get a supplemental what are the chances of getting an interview

Everyone receives a supplemental EXCEPT if your cGPA or sGPA falls under a 3.0, not sure if it’s both but I know at least one of them.

Hey congrats!
I interviewed last week and it was chilly- I'm from Wisconsin. It's only going to get colder so I would recommend a jacket because you are outside for a little bit. It shouldn't be snowing or anything by then (hopefulllyy). Just get there early either way- there are quiet a few hotels a few miles from the school. They send a list of some that offer discounts! -and some offer shuttles-
It's a very relaxed day. Just be yourself and good luck!

Haven't heard back from this school yet. Hoping that I do soon. I'm thinking about sending an email as a letter of intent saying I've received other interviews but am waiting to hear back from them? This is my top school choice! Recommendations?

Congrats to you, too! I was planning on taking a lyft/uber, but I would have to bring my luggage with me to the interview day and head straight back to the airport afterwards. Is there a place for us to keep our luggage or...?

I believe there is. I think some students left theirs in an office

Did you think the interview questions on SDN were reflective of the actual interview or not since the interview style has recently been changed from MMI to one on one?

Hey,
so the interview is two on one- two faculty interview. The questions were pretty straight forward and simple. There weren't any ethical questions- just questions about you and your personality. They want to get to know you. (Also, I felt like they had looked at your application before)

I visited the school a week ago for a tour and was told that their current D1's are 80% OOS. I asked why, and they said that IL residents have other in-state options and usually choose to go to them. It seems that they send invites more to OOS students lately and lower stat students bc higher stat students get multiple interviews and acceptances and since MWU is more expensive, they choose not to attend there. I have had multiple interviews so far, and both of the other in-state schools, GPA close to 3.9, above average DAT scores, volunteer and extracurricular activities and I am the president of the PDA at my school, and I have heard nothing from that MWU as of yet. I submitted my apps to them in June but took the DAT end of August. Don't know if that could be the reason, maybe they didn't get to my app yet. But everyone I spoke with, had GPA's of 3.3-3.5 that interviewed there. I am getting really discourages because this is my top choice along with
Midwestern in AZ (interviewed there a couple of weeks ago). Someone, please tell me that I still have a chance lol

So this is what I always thought. On ADEA dental explorer, the 95th percentile for students enrolled in 2017-2018 was around 3.7 cGPA. I started to assume that some schools choose not to offer students with high stats until post December because they do have better options for themselves out there.

I am more convinced in that than ever! I did send them a letter of interest after the tour and specifically mentioned as to why I would choose them over the other in-state schools. They replied by saying that they have added my letter to my file. I just hope I do get the opportunity ti interview there but I can't wait until March or so. I have friends that are students there and they all interviewed around March.

May I ask why do you prefer their school? I’m OOS and interviewed there. I couldn’t see myself living there for 4 years though. I’d rather stay in IS.
