I got an acceptance call as well, 8:45 am pacific time.

Confirmed for MWU-AZ! 🙂 Got a call today around 11am from Dr. Polk!

It seems like most people got a call from Dr. Polk. Did anyone receive a call from Dr. Zais?

Did you get called today or yesterday?

Got a call yesterday at 10:57 Arizona time. Last name with K . Congrats everyone!! 👍

Congrats everyone!!!!!! I got a call yesterday from Dr. Zais !!! Accepted !!!

I've narrowed it down to Midwestern or the University of Washington. I currently live in Phoenix but I love the Seattle area as well (WA resident). I was really impressed with the entire program at Midwestern during my interview. I am particularly enthusiastic about the absence of resident specialists taking your patients away. I just don't know how I can justify the extra 150k in tuition and fees over 4 years. Any thoughts?

There is absolutely no justification to spend more than 150k in tuition. Go to your state school. You can always do mission trips to up your clinical skills. The student debt of 150k is huge and can't be easily discounted.

Got the call from Dr. Polk on Sunday that I was accepted. Awesome school and loved the tour. Unfortunately the cost is going to make me decline. Good news for those wait listed though. Congrats guys

That's how it is for a lot of people. It's a "backup" for those with state schools or cheaper tuitions. Admissions know that. But you do get a lot of bang for your buck, but dollars reign supreme these days (dollars become the bang). But you rarely see someone come away from interviewing with a bad impression of the program or school. It's nice. And lots of military scholarships are here; I think that says something when they choose here when dollars didn't matter (sometimes over more-established programs). I don't blame people for going cheaper. Luckily, I got $100K off with WICHE

For those of us who have no state school (I'm from AZ) and would pay out of state tuition (likely to be close to MWU depending on the school), I don't think it makes much of a difference 🙁 It's crazy they haven't built a state school here yet.

MWU Arizona is amazing school. But I still can't fully decide btw MWU Arizona and Case ...

I'm between MWU Az, Kentucky and Pitt so I also understand. I go back and forth between the 3 all day

I understand you. I can't decide btw case and MWU . If u like city life , go to Turfs. Boston is sooo cool

I'm starting to learn towards Tufts for several reasons:

1) It's a well established school and nearly every dentist knows about the school. When I mentioned MWU to the dentists I was shadowing a lot of them asked, "which one is that?". Now, I know prestige isn't everything but I do honestly feel that it does hold some weight in the end. There's also a huge alumni count from Tufts and people know they produce quality dentists. Being MWU is so new, it's hard to say whether their curriculum works (although from what I saw, i'm sure it is excellent).

2) Location - when I went to Glendale...it reminded me of my suburban home in California...except a lot less green. I talked to a few locals there and they all seemed like hermits. None of them knew where good food spots were, what they were known for, etc. This is just based on 2 locals so it's probably inaccurate to a degree. Boston was just overall great...loved the environment.
HOWEVER, AZ to California is relatively close. Boston to CA is literally on the other side of the continent. I live 30 min from the beach in CA and Tufts is 15 min from the beach. Although I heard you can't even swim in their ocean since it's so dirty and cold...not that I even like the beach.

If anyone else wants to chime in about what their thoughts/impressions were of MWU and Tufts feel free to share!

In terms of MWU's location, I'm a Tucson native so I know the area fairly well. Glendale is only 20 or so minutes away from Scottsdale which is a very nice area. Lots of great restaurants and shopping. Night life is awesome there too if you're into that kind of thing. The Glendale area is rapidly expanding which is pretty cool. As long as you dont mind the heat Arizona is great. Just my two cents.

I was unaware since I was traveling only within a couple mile radius from the school. Thanks for your input!

Grew up literally right by the school and it's a pretty cool area, lots of outdoors activities, lake is about 30 mins away (and you can swim in it), hiking at different mountains, drive to Prescott in about an hour and you're in the snow, drive about two hours and you're able to ski in Flagstaff (or great camping in the summer). Some very nice shopping areas all around the city. Tempe seems to be a pretty big party town (never been there myself). It's close to CA like you said, which is awesome. There's all different kinds of neighborhoods relatively close so if you're not into the new style suburban houses you're in luck (if you're planning on living in a house that is).

I also lived in CA for a bit by the ocean and I was totally set on being by the beach again, but I feel that MWU is an incomparable school (at least to the 8 I had interviews at). Lots of dentists I know don't know of Tufts, but I really don't know how much that matters. MWU as a whole has been around since 1900, so they're definitely doing something right. I feel the clinical experience and the support we will have from the faculty is top notch. In the back of my head, as much as I want to be by the ocean, I know this is a really great school and it's the one for me. When I asked a student at another school about placing an implant or experience with different procedures she said "that's was continuing education is for". But, at MWU, we get to do those while in D school! We're going to be solid A** dentists coming out of MWU!! :highfive: (Again, I know nothing about Tufts)

I mean, the dean has taken some 20+ years of experience at different dental schools, figuring out what wasn't working, and is turing it into a phenomenal experience for us!

Best of luck! :luck:

I got the phone call Sunday morning! I'm from Maryland but I was on the beach in San Diego when Dr. Polk called, I was so pumped! This is my #1 choice, still waiting to hear from some of my other top choices (Maryland, UOP) but by all accounts this is where I'll end up!

I did the Masters program at this school last year and I'm very close with half the D1 class, and a bunch of the D2-D4 classes. I also know a good amount about the school, area, housing, faculty and clinic. So for anyone who got accepted, I made a Facebook page titled "Midwestern University AZ College of Dental Medicine Official Class of 2018" so please join and that way we can communicate and get to know each other and if anyone has any questions, we'd be happy to help! Congratulations to anyone who got accepted and I hope to see you there!

I got the call from Dr Polk at 8:34 🙂 I will be going there it was my first choice because I am from AZ and the school is AMAZING.

I'm finishing up my undergrad at ASU in Tempe and have some input. Glendale kind of sucks unless you are retired. The place fills up with snow birds and retirees like crazy. Scottsdale and Tempe (where ASU is) are a ton of fun. Festivals and events are always going on, along with nightlife that rivals most any other big city (other than Vegas, NY,..). Downtown Phoenix is pretty disappointing compared to other cities. Not a ton to do. You can be active all year long.Hiking, biking, river floating, golf year round, tons of stuff to do. My favorite: Pool season starts in March.

About 90 minutes north is Sedona. Sedona is one of the most beautiful and scenic places in the entire country. Lot's of wildlife preserves and national forests.

If you never check out "Northern Mexico" (Tucson) you really aren't missing anything.

I wouldn't want to live here forever, but the four years of my undergrad have been a fantastic time. I'm glad I got to experience Arizona. You won't have a problem finding stuff to do if you head over to the east valley.

One last thing: Central Location in the Southwest is AWESOME. If you want to get away for a long weekend or break:

Vegas= 4 hour drive
Los Angeles= 5 hour drive
San Diego= 5 hour drive
Rocky Point Beach, Mexico= 3.5 hour drive

Congrats on the acceptances!

Congratulations to all who got in to MW Arizona! I will be interviewing next week and this is my first choice school. I would appreciate any advice on interview prep for this school? How was your interview? Do I have a chance because I was a late applicant? Thank you!

Just be YOURSELF! Let them know in your interview that this is your top choice! If they're still interviewing, you obviously have a chance!

Why has the portal not yet been updated? I want to know what my status for this school is.

Just be yourself is the best advice I can give you. I know it sounds a little trite and cliche but it really is true. They have interviewed thousands of students and they wont be impressed if your trying to hard to impress them ya know. Be honest and give honest genuine answers. My interview was very laid back, even though I was nervous as heck, just asked a few questions and then we chatted for a while and then the D2 student asked a question. When I walked in Dr Polk told me to unbutton my suit coat and relax haha. Just be nice and genuine. You have a good chance if you are interviewing, honestly. Good luck!
