I have worked at a pediatric cardiologist practice since May 2010 and as an ER scribe since May 2012. I also worked in a research lab during undergrad, but I never got published or anythign like that

any one know that average score on the COMLEX this past yr or any recent years?

Accepted off of the wait list. Interviewed back in November. Sooooo excited for the future of no more snow.

Can any of the med students comment on the curriculum here? I'm trying to compare the curriculum at Touro NV and KCUMB. I have a good idea of what the genesis curriculum is like (body systems based) but not such a clear idea of how touro NV will be like. Some people I have met said that it is system's based but the curriculum sheet Amber provided for us doesn't make it seem so...thank you in advance 🙂

It's mostly systems based. You learn a system per exam and cover that system in multiple classes, so for example we learn about the GI system in physiology and anatomy at the same time. This is kind of nice because there is some overlap in what you learn = less time studying!

1st year we take basic sciences: biochem, anatomy, physio, histo, immunology, neuro, + OMM and Physical Diagnosis.

2nd year we take clinical sciences: path, pharm, clinical systems etc. + OMM, PD.

Sprinkle in a few other classes of less importance and you have our curriculum.

94% first time passing rate, which is well above the national average. USMLE is almost as high.

any class of 2017 know where they are going to live during first year? or anyone know which apartment complex on that list we got during the interview day is the most popular with med students?

Hm, TUNCOM admissions called me to make an appointment for an interview. This was after I waited a week after getting the II, because I already got in a school that is closer to home.

Nice admissions staff. I must be some hot stuff. 🙂

A second year student that was at my lunch/interview told us that she had just bought a condo because it was cheaper...they provide you with housing info at the interview day too. Hope that helped somewhat...

Sent from my SCH-I510 using SDN Mobile

Finally decided to make an acct on SDN after looking at it all through ugrad 😛. Ive been accepted as well! Can't wait to finally begin med school and pursue my dream 🙂

Another question... What do you current students do for health insurance ect. ?

You can get the school health insurance but it's kinda spendy, but it's convenient if you want to have zero hassle when you want to get seen at the clinic on campus. There's a variety of different private insurance companies out there.

Interview Invite just now!! Any tips you guys can share with those of us who are gonna interview soon?!

Stats 3.45 GPA 30 MCAT 😀

Anyone else who interviewed in November get accepted off the wait list? I saw one a few posts back....

If my interview is at 12:45
When should I expect to finish??
I need to book my flight to leave that same night

We (12:45 group) finished the official part of the day around 6 PM; two of the students took us to see the anatomy lab afterwards but I had to leave suddenly because my taxi arrived. Give yourself plenty of time.

I'm interested in this as well. Also, did any of you current students buy a house or condo in henderson? ... Could you provide some insight on that? It seems like one could buy a place for really cheap, possibly cheaper mortgage payments than it would cost to rent.

I bought a home in Henderson. It was an easy choice for me. My fiance and I have two large dogs so we couldn't really squeeze into an apt. The cost of buying a house was </= renting a house. The market here is still pretty terrible and there are tons of homes available but many times you will be bidding against investors who want to buy the home as a rental buy. THey usually pay with cash and therefore have better buying power.

Anyhow, I am so happy with my decision to buy. I really love owning a home and I am sure that we will make a profit when we decide to sell. Get a good realtor who knows the ins and outs of buying in Vegas. PM me if you want the name and contact info of our realtor. She is seriously awesome.

Are there any problems paying a mortgage with a student loan?

I'm interviewing here on the 4th. Does anyone know the best/cheapest way to get from McCarran Airport to the school and back?

I'm new to sdn as well. Anyone else have an interview 1/28 and know of a decent hotel in the area?

Hotel shuttle from one of the hotels suggested by the school.

I stayed at the Wingate. The price was decent, they had both an airport shuttle and a shuttle to take me to the interview, and I think breakfast was included (although I slept in so I don't remember for sure). Not to mention the fact that the front desk girl was kinda cute.

I'm interviewing here on the Feb, 4th as well (the morning one). My plan is to fly in on Feb. 3rd, get a rental car, and stay at Fiesta Henderson. I chose Fiesta Henderson because it was cheap and extremely close to the school. Don't know if Fiesta is a bad choice or not. It's a casino and I don't know what to expect.

You get it during orientation and its in the low $1000s (price will probably be different from ours this year). It's included in your fees and tuition bill, so you don't have to do anything special to get it

I am doing the same exact thing! Staying at Fiesta as well and interviewing on the morning of the 4th. We should meet up the night before and gamble away.👍

I stayed at the Fiesta Henderson and really liked it. It was very cheap, but the room was very nice, and there's a nice pool if the weather is warm enough. Large casino downstairs with a nice buffet and some restaurants, including a subway.

Hey everyone! just a quick question. did you guys get a confirmation email after you called Touro to schedule your interviews? Thanks in advance

shortly after scheduling it over the phone, I got an email confirming it as well

Are there any accepted in the same boat me? I was accepted and gave my deposit as well as sent in my transcripts like 2 weeks ago. Is there something else I should be doing? I haven't heard from the school soI am guessing no news is good news.

Look on the website. If you're filing taxes from 2012 you have to file them and wait 4 weeks to do the fafsa. If you're not filing you can go ahead and apply now.

Well this interview was a very "stress" interview.

It was a solid 20 minutes of to the point question after question. It felt like fending for yourself- not a conversation whatsoever. But this is just my experience from being on a handful of interviews. There was no chance to ask questions at the end either.

Overall, the students seemed decent, as did the administration. We had a limited role with faculty. The school was nice and the dean was great, there was a lot to learn from him.

After talking to everyone after we all interviewed in December, it seemed that one pair of interviewers were harder on interviewee's than the rest. Looks like you may have gotten the more stressful pair. Although it wasn't the conversation that you were hoping for, they were probably testing to see how you handled the stress of the conversation and how you responded under stress. There are plenty of people who thought they had bad interviews and got into great programs.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you answered their questions well enough and gave them a good impression of you.

Do you remember their names?

My interview in October felt like I was just defending myself as well. I figured they must not be very interested in what I had on my application. I kinda wrote them off because I felt I was going to get rejected and was going to focus on other schools. Then I got accepted here. I wouldn't base too much on the questions or the tone of the interview. I think HRoss has it right when he said they were probably just seeing how you deal under pressure.

Just a general question, I am interviewing soon, next month actually. Does anyone know the acceptance rate after being interviewed at Touro NV? (rough estimate is fine)

It is what it is 🙁. If you want TUNCOM though definitely fight for it. Follow up with the interviewers with an email, updates, etc. My own biased opinion here but feels like TUNCOM has a lot going for them . . . At least on paper 😉. Pretty excited to have gotten an acceptance here after the agonizing wait. It's a top 3 pick for me out of the 20 some odd DO/MD programs I applied to.

One of the students at my interview said it was 1 out of every 3 that got in last year but who knows...

So I'm trying to figure out the deal with rotations at this school. It kind of scares me that they don't have a list available of their rotations. Could this be indicative that rotations are not "set"? On the other hand, on the interview day they made it sound like since there is only one other med school in the state, we would have really good rotations all in las vegas.
