UF c/o 2023 applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just out of curiosity, did anyone who has already interviewed with UF this past weekend remember any specific “current event” questions? I’m having trouble finding articles that would stand out to them and myself that they could ask me about.
Didn’t interview there, but sign up for the AVMA smart brief if you’re looking for current events in vetmed!

I haven’t interviewed yet so I can’t answer your question. I follow some accounts on Twitter that keeps me up to date on vet news like AVMA-CAN, dvm360, and DFA CVM. Hope this helps.

Hey! I didn't get any of these when I interviewed, but my friend who is interviewing this year made a list of things she thought they might ask about:
- Horses out west- not enough land/resources
- Greyhound amendment
- TNR/anything they asked about in the essays for application
- The iguana problem in florida (invasive)

Keep in mind she interviewed already and also didn't get asked one of these. There are also probably many other issues out there- so just stay up to date. And I have another friend who interviewed- in my class- who got asked about the horses and she didn't know about it and she was still accepted- so don't stress. They're more to see how you think/work through a problem. If you don't know, you can ask them to explain it and go from there!

They're not out to get you, trap you, make you feel stupid, etc! Don't stress, it's very friendly and everyone wants you to succeed! Best of luck! 🙂

Thank you so much! I feel unprepared for that section of the interview!

If you go and look at the SDN interview questions for UF I think there are some on there about current events! But overall there's no way to feel totally prepared- just be honest, think about the question before answering, and stick to your opinion as long as you can back it up with thought out reasoning! You're going to do great!

I have been looking at all the past questions from SDN and have kinda of an idea for each. Thank you for the help... hopefully I’ve prepped enough for tomorrow

I was wondering if anyone who was interviewed this past week wanted to share their experience? I have my interview coming up and am not sure how to prepare. How were the interviewers? The overall experience etc Thank you!

Mine was extremely laid back! They honestly just wanted to get to know me better and after a few minutes it honestly felt like a conversation. My biggest piece of advice is to just be yourself! And be honest about your strengths and weaknesses 🙂

Mine was extremely laid back! It was in a faculty member’s office and they honestly just wanted to get to know me better. The questions were very basic and after a few minutes it honestly felt like a conversation. My biggest piece of advice is to just be yourself! And be honest about your strengths and weaknesses 🙂
Thank you for the advice! I really appreciate it. Did your interviewers review your application or was it blind? Also, did they mention how much weight was placed on the interview for their overall admission decision? Thank you so much!!

They had looked over mine briefly! And unfortuently no, that’s something I’m curious about myself!

Hi friends! Fourth year (SENIOR) at UF and just wanted to stop in to say GOOD LUCK! You have received some amazing tips from previous posters so I won’t add to that noise, but if you have any questions about the school, feel free to ask! I am part of the interview team, so will not be able to discuss any of those specifics, but if you follow @vet.lauren on insta, she’s a classmate and gave awesome advice. 🙂 I’ve met some amazing hopeful UF 2023ers and can’t wait for you to join us!

For the current event questions, last year I was asked one that I knew nothing about. I was honest but related it to something I did know. They even prefaced the question saying it was ok if I wasn’t aware of it. Don’t stress too much about that part.

Does anyone know if they rank applicants based on a point system, or is everyone on an even playing field once they reach interviews? I know they have started implementing a holistic approach for admission decisions so I wanted someone to clarify. Thanks!

I got off of the waitlist today for an interview on the 26th! It is possible!
Omg! Congrats! I'm on the waitlist too. It's getting closer to the 26th and I'm more and more anxious every day. I hope someone gets into their dream school and cancels their interview!

How did they contact you? I emailed them to ask them how the alternate list works and they basically just said they'll call, then email if a slot opens. If all slots are full and they don't call you for the 26th interview, your basically out. =/

I believe so!

Current student here: your entire application still matters.

Yes, that is exactly what happened. They called me to ask if I would like the open interview slot (ummm yes!) and then they sent me a confirmation email. Wishing you the best of luck!

Does anyone know how long it will take to hear about final decisions following the last interview date this coming Saturday? I believe the school said mid-february but will it really take that long compared? Does anyone know how long it took last year? I know that schools like Kansas said decisions would take a month and then got back three days after interviews so I was just wondering.

I think the average is about 10-12 days after the last interview. Last year was February 6th. They probably give a later time-frame because they would rather people be happy that decisions came early than have them complaining because they are late.

Was hoping I would get a call today but no such luck (IS applicant on the alternative list for interviews). I'm going to wallow tonight then start a plan tomorrow. Good luck to everyone on your interviews Saturday! You're going to kill it! =]

If we’re on the alternate list and haven’t gotten a call, is it safe to assume since today is the last day of interviews that we are officially rejected? Or should we wait for the letter? Want to commit my seat elsewhere but I know as soon as I do I’ll hear from them lol

How does everyone feel about interviews?
I think the interview went really well, two of my interviewers had looked through my application thoroughly and were emphasizing strengths from it while the other interviewer had not had the option to look at it. There weren't any questions that were out of the blue, all of them were pretty standard. It was very conversational, I think that some of my answers I could have worded better but overall it went well. Anyone else have a similar experience?

That happened with me with one of the questions. I felt that i could of worded it differently but i think my overall point came across so thats the important thing. I felt very good about my interview overall, all the interviewers were very sweet and just wanted to get to know me as a person.

How does everyone feel about interviews?
I think we had the same interview period (Jan 26th 8:30)! I felt mine went WAY better than I was worried it would, they seemed really impressed with me which I did not expect lol. I stumbled a few times just because I was a bit nervous but all my interviewers were amazing and by the end I felt confident and happy and we ended laughing and smiling. How did your interview go and what is your name if you don't mind me asking? My name is Allison, I hope we get to be classmates this coming Fall!

We did have the same interview slot! I think mine went okay, I definitely could have answered a few questions better but overall it was conversational, they laughed and seemed engaging. My name is Stephanie, and so do I!

I’m fully aware that we won’t be hearing back for at least over a week but I’ve already started checking my email every hour :nailbiting:
Same! Based off of what people posted the past 3 years, decisions were announced 10, 5 and 11 days following the last interview date. That gives a range between Jan 31-Feb 6th but of course it may still come later than that.

Dam 5 days! That seems crazy! I think they tell us they will take longer so we get happy and excited when we get the decision letter earlier than expected! 🙂 good luck to everyone who applied and got interviews this cycle! Cant believe this cycle is coming to an end! What an emotional and stressful few months

Like they said, if you got an interview they like you and your application was already good enough to get in, they just want to make sure you're a good fit for the school. If they enjoyed interviewing you then hopefully they thought you were a good fit and you get in! I'll be crossing my fingers for us both 🙂

First the interview survey yesterday and then the MPH email today, is this a sign we are getting another email tomorrow? 😉 I doubt it but I wish :xf:

Hey guys! Does anyone know how many spots are available for this class? I know they interviewed 315 students in total and last year they accepted 273 out of 316 interviews and 73 students declined the offer (our chances are pretty good guys!)

I'm not sure but those statistics make me feel more hopeful! 🙂
