and they won't provide information over the phone anymore because all the committee members went home for thanksgiving. She said letters went out yesterday, as has been said. Well, hopefully I will get my letter Friday. Good luck all:luck: .

What do you mean that only 2 SDNers got accepted this cycle? Do you mean generally this year or from November's cycle, and how do you know this?
Thanks

Theres actually three, the two that posted in the "fame" thread, and one guy from FL who posted it in the UMDNJ thread that had like 250 posts. But still thats only three out of alot of us who have had interviews.

Damn Im nervous as crap now.........

whatever happened to UMDNJ interviewing 250 people for 200 admittances; or something like that.

keep the faith guys. and a piece of advice, stay in touch often w/ paula and the office. they def log down how much interest a waitlisted potential student calls and keeps in touch. i interviewed late (vday), got WLed last yr, and got off 1st or close 2 it (acc 2 paula, i think she said 1st)...either way, i called them about every 2 weeks 2 "check on my WL status" and i updated them when things happened (like i had 3 publications submitted). i stayed in touch by doing things like sending them a revised resume after the pubs and got additional letters from my profs as well.

another thing i did during that time, i called up and got set up 2 shadow one of the som family med docs who uses OMM at his practice, which is a good thing 2 do if u're in the area. another classmate of mine from out of state stayed an extra day after the interview and also shadowed w/ dr mason (he's very open 2 letting interested potential students shadow him)...plus he's one of our profs at school and the head of the 2nd yr omm class. they really like it when someone who's never been exposed 2 OMM really wants 2 learn what it is by watching...or if u can't do that and u happen 2 interview (next yr cuz we just had our last day of classes 2day, only finals left) on wed, ask 2 sit in our OMM class and lab!

and 2 make u guys feel better, my UG gpa < 3.0 (though MCAT > 30) so don't count urself out by ur stats. stay in touch, stay in touch and def show interest (like shadowing dr mason if u can)

exactly! didnt UMDNJSOM have one of the highest acceptance rates after interview in oast years?!
Once again, SDN isn't representative of the whole applicant population. So, even though saying that only three SDNers have gotten may be disconcerting, it is probably not the overall trend. It seems like UMDNJ has been "tricky" this year and has waitlisted a significant number of people.

For 2005, U.S. listed these stats:

OOS: 2028 applied, 170 interviewed, 112 accepted
IS: 373 applied, 115 interviewed, 78 accepted

So, in terms of totals, 190 acceptances out of 285 interviews, or an acceptance rate of 67%. However, as I've said before, this number is confusing (misleading) because these acceptnaces may not be straight acceptances, but acceptances from the waitlist in order to fill their incoming class.

Whatever the case may be, I hope all of you hear good news in the next week! 🙂 Best of luck!

why must you always use statistics and reason??? Happy Thanksgiving :turkey:

Also, the dean of admissions is no longer there, so I am sure things have changed a little bit.

Because someone always seems to ask. Spearheading here 🙂 Did you just call me a turkey? lol. 😛

Oh BUMMER!!!!! 🙁
I'm really sorry to hear that, Dr. Kuba!
But it isn't a rejection, and there is bound to be a good amount of movement for the waitlist - so just keep telling them how much you love them and why you are a perfect fit, and it won't be a long wait for you!! :luck:

I am sorry to hear that...but why did I not get a letter? I live in new brunswick and interviewed on nov1st damnit!

Thanks guys. I think my interview wasn't too hot and my abysmal sophmore year didn't help. I don't even know what to think of this wailtist. I guess I'll call Paula and ask what my chance is. Can you guys PM me her number?

Oh wow! Do they tell you in the letter what factors they considered when they accept/reject/wait list you?
That's good to know.

no, they don't. I'm assuming. By the way, the letter was written really weird. I though i was rejected, then accepted, then waitlisted.

actually, drkuba - I was at your nova interview. I was the chick from jersey who's mom went on the tour haha. glad to hear that we both got accepted to nova.

but yeah, i have no idea what's going on with umdnj. i was placed on their "alternate list" too. i just find it really baffling why they're waitlisting so many people. my interview went great, and the only thing i can think is possibly holding me back is my mcat.

have there been any speculation about why fewer students are being accepted early?

Hey, I remember you. Congrats on Nova. Yea, UMNJ is being a bum. They do have a new dean this year. It definitely seems like they are doing things differently.

did anybody try calling the office today to see if anyone was there? i tried but no answer - but sometimes i don't get an answer when i call on any other day.

Sorry to hear that Dr. Kuba, I still have not recieved a letter, and my mail came today, but I am getting more and more confident that I am going to be on the waitlist.

i got in!!! what a great news after missing thanksgiving because of a stomach virus!

goodluck to everyone else! =)

I also was accepted today. I don't know where UMDNJ stands among my favorites, but I have two weeks to decide.

Would you stop it already!? 😛 It's been quite a journey since COMP huh? 🙂

dude, i'm a chick (no offense taken 🙂 ). and i wouldn't start calling every 2 weeks just yet but do stay in touch as they log in all contact w/ students and look 2 c who's really interested. they used my 10 yo UG grades as well (i'm also a non-trad). i can't emphasize enough 2 show interest esp if its ur 1st choice. send in more recs if u do well in other classes, ask 2 sit in on our classes in 2007 (we have anatomy, neuroscience - dr white is supposed 2 b awesome and is a consultant 4 kaplan and wrote The Roadmap 2 USMLE neuro book, microbio, and OMM), ask 4 them 2 recommend a doc that u can shadow who practices OMM so that u can c it in action or sit in our OMM class/lab if they allow..whatever 2 show interest and 4 urselves, 2 find out more if SOM is really 4 u. SOM was cool and set me up last yr w/ dr mason 2 shadow and they also let me sit in on an OMM and neuro class (neuro on interview day). and congrats 2 the ppl who got in! those on the WL, don't give up hope.

Sorry bro.... welcome to the club. I will be following the advice of the guy who called every two weeks. For me, they are using my UG grades from 10 years ago as a factor. What about you?

I find it odd that neither of us received a letter though we both live in jersey...hmm...when did you interview?

This is going to be a tough choice for me, I really loved both DMU and UMDNJ... I know EMT & Dr Kuba will tell me to choose DMU!! LOL! Fair enough. I just might... but this won't be easy, that's for sure.

Congrats Ortho! Nah, UMDNJ is better than DMU(and cheaper), go UMDNJ.

oh really...how did you like the school? where did you go for undergrad/grad?

I think I've become sucked into these dicussions because now I am nervous since I applied to only two schools, while everyone else here lists over ten schools...

I only applied to 6 DO schools... Well, I am passively withdrawing from the
7th b/c I didn't realize I needed a DO LOR and don't have one....

Are you from jersey or did you go for undergrad here?
The paper I am currently writing is really being affected by this newly developed addiction! =) If I can't finish grad school this semester at least I have sdn to blame

AHHH mdapps twin! Keep the faith! If it makes you feel better I was waitlisted pre-interview at Penn State, my alma mater. Don't worry, if I receive an interview I'll spend the whole interview telling them that they're idiots for not accepting you. Just kidding, UMDNJ, please please invite me.

Best of luck to everyone who was WLed and congrats to everyone who got in!!

I feel absolutely ignored here! I feel like an outsider!

I feel absolutely ignored here! I feel like an outsider!

koshka, people here are really willing to answer your questions, but you need to address your questions to the person you want to answer.

Are you still PCOM 2011?, or are you reconsidering now?

PCOM and UMDNJ have been at the top of my list. So, a very hard decision is coming up... How about you? have you made a decision?

Would you stop it already!? 😛 It's been quite a journey since COMP huh? 🙂

I know!!! You're my very first SDN friend, i'm glad i met you at COMP!
...though its sad that we won't be going to the same school =(

So did everyone here go to school in NJ/is NJ resident?
