Well, just yesterday I drove down to Tucson for the day to put down a deposit on a place to live. Today I was in the process of registering for the classes and right at the moment I was doing that, lo and behold I get a phone call from Tara at Phoenix. It is even stranger than when I recieved word about my Tucson admit (see page 7 of this thread). I am now convinced there is a UofA conspiracy to drive me insane!

Anyways, originally I had preferenced Phoenix and was sure I would have picked that over Tucson. But now, having been to second look at tucson and having thought about Phoenix in the meantime, I am not sure.

I'm torn, although now I am leaning towards tucson. I don't know if I am partial to it just because I had convinced myself I was going Tucson (without a phx acceptance) or because I have had legitimate second thoughts about phoenix.

Crap.

Oh thats such a pain! I can relate - I am going to phx for sure, but right after I got off their waitlist, I got off another school's waitlist back near where I am from in the DC area. Its so hard to switch your mindset back to reconsidering new schools when you want to just be settled already. I made a pro/con list, which helped me a lot (though that is probably obvious advice, writing it down helped me a lot). I think you will have a great experience at either place, so don't put too much pressure on yourself. Neither choice is wrong. Goodluck 🙂

still at 49, i have a feeling things are gonna be slowing down quite a bit from here on out.

They are at 51, according to Ann as of 1pm today.

in that case, microbes....

Thats right!!!! 😀

Just picked up my letter, and I can't stop smiling! I hope the waitlist keeps moving so the rest of you can celebrate too. Good luck everyone, and if you want a another person to look at your PS for this year's apps I'd be happy to help out.

Hey fellow class of 2012, are you guys going with a tablet laptop or just a regular laptop? Any thoughts?

As of 10:45 today: Tucson is on #52, and apparently Phoenix has not exhausted their alternate list.

I can vouch for the fact that PHX has definitely not exhausted their list, as I am still on it🙂 Do you know if it has seen any movement lately?

I don't know about any movement, sorry. I just asked because I had read some previous posts discussing the possibility of Phoenix using Tucson's list. At this point it is really a moot question. Good luck with Phoenix though!

I just got the call! accepted to Phoenix at 8:45. Tara said I'm at the end of the class and they are getting close to set WOOHOO!

Congrats!!! Time to celebrate:hardy:

Well, I just withdrew my acceptance for the Tucson campus. I am disappointed that I won't be joining you all next year, but hopefully my spot goes to a worth SDN'er. Good luck everyone.

Congrats!!! Thats great. Welcome 🙂 What do you mean though that you are at the end of the class? Does that mean they are almost done with their waitlist movement?

Congrats! 🙂 Party it up! Were you waitlisted at Tucson as well?

I was rejected outright by Tucson. Tara said that I got in at the tail end of the whole process and that they think they are almost done with waitlist movement. In other words, I backed in to med school😳

Hey man, however you get in is a HUGE achievement. Don't sell yourself short. Congrats!

They are up to 54 (as of this morning). Isn't automangts 54? 🙂 If so, congrats! (you better defer, please!)

I think automangts is 57, and must be about to die waiting

ah! KEEP IT MOVING!! 🙂 TO 74 PLZ FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!

Fabulous!!!!

I have a question for those of you living in Tucson right now. I'm looking for a place to live near the U and was wondering how the bus system works around the area. I know there's the Cat Tran (I think thats what its called), but I didn't know how reliable it is and if it runs all day. Also, how is the public bus system in Tucson around UMC? I'm looking at some places: one house (that has no roof on it right now) on Waverly and another on Norton, north of speedway. Any advice or suggestions would be awesome!

I'm looking for a place right now too. Let me know if you find anything special and I'll do the same.

Where does Phoenix stand for the waitlist number?

What process do they use to select from the waitlist?
We've discussed this but nobody really knows because phx won't divulge much regarding how much total movement they have had or how they do it. Apparently they group you into some kind of tier system. Its possible the tiers themsevles are ranked relative to each other in some way, or its possible they just represent different types of applicants so they can keep the background of the class broad. dunno.

hey - can someone please post the link to the facebook group for Tucson? I can't find it and the link that was previously posted on here won't work for me. Thanks!

Hey MedMan-
I've been looking online for places mainly and also just driving around the area. Some good websites are thepepper.com, trulia.com, and craig's lists has some stuff too. Basically anything in the 85719 or 85716 area is relatively close. I've found some reasonable condos/townhomes off of north Prince, east of Campbell. I didn't think that was too bad of a drive. Also, since the housing market is really bad right now, a lot of places are in foreclosure, so you can get them pretty cheap. Thats all I have as of now. Hope it helps.

The facebook link:

That link should work....

Thanks! I've been checking out craigslist, I'll have to take a look at those other sites you mentioned.

I got in!!! The waitlist is at 57, or maybe more. I haven't called because I am in India right now. I'm really excited to start this year with you guys!!

Just got an email from Ann, congrats automan! 🙂 They are up to #57. Dangit, one slot taken again, I suspect it will slow down again. 🙁

This is the deepest the waitlist has ever gone.........

Hey ROOTER76...did you decide on a campus yet?

I would love your seat at Tucson 🙂

Just wanted to say Hi to everyone, automan told me about this website last week, wish I would have found it a year ago. Could have definitely used the help considering I had no idea what the hell I was doing throughout the entire application process.

SO what is everyone's guess as to where the wait list will end up?

By the way...I have lived in Tucson for 8 years now so if anyone has any questions about housing or transportation or any other relevant topics I would love to help. I have a decent amount of free time right now so if its extensive send me an email- [email protected].

I LOVE Tucson 😎!

Congrats on all the wait list acceptances guys and gals. When does the year officially begin? I can't believe they go so long before they let everyone know. A friend's of mine father was accepted after his second day of class in California and walked right out of class, packed the truck, and was on his way to U of A.

Thanks, I appreciate it 🙂. I just can't stop obsessing. I've gotten my hopes up all over again and I just don't want to see it come crashing down like when that acceptance letter never showed up...

Where are you on the wait list?

Oh that is really hard, but still better than being 105 on the waitlist, just be ready for a last minute move, Good Luck!

Still at 59 today. According to Ann, the last possible day they will pull from the waitlist is July 30, the day before orientation.

I wonder why she says that considering I've heard people being accepted up through the first week of class. Doesn't seem like orientation would be THAT detrimental to miss...
😕

Hey guys. I am really happy that UofA has such an active student doctor link. Anyway, I got a few questions.

#1 What does it take to be consider an in state resident. I have been away (grew up in Gilbert) to Colorado for undergrad and professional school in California for the last 8 years. Anyway, I have accepted a job that will have me in Texas from the end of July until November when I will be transferred back to Phoenix. I am not applying until next summer so is Nov 2008 until I apply Jun 2009 enough time to be considered an in state applicant?

#2 My job will force me to learn some Spanish but I defiantly will not be fluent. I am thinking about taking time off and moving to Mexico in order to pick up Spanish. I know UofA really favors Spanish speaking applicants. Do you think this is worth it/will help my application? Not sure how my company will feel about me taking a few months off.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Directly from UA's website: "The general rule is that in order to obtain resident status for tuition purposes, a student must establish his or her domicile in Arizona at least one year immediately prior to the last day of regular registration for the semester in which the student proposes to attend the university. Arizona domicile occurs when a financially independent person is physically present in Arizona with the intention of making Arizona his or her permanent home"

There are some exceptions to this general rule which are outlined here: http://www.registrar.arizona.edu/residency/aborreq.htm

As far as speaking Spanish is concerned, I don't know how much of an edge that would give you. If it were between living in AZ to establish residency and living in Mexico to enhance your Spanish skills, I would say that living in AZ would probably be your best bet since your chances of getting into UA are zero if you're not classified as an AZ resident. Not being able to speak fluent Spanish on the other hand is not going to keep you from getting in to UA (I am living proof of this).

#1) I would check with the domicile office. I was out of state for about six years, and was originally classified as a non-resident. I had to show proof that my registration, drivers lisc, and voting registration were all still in arizona before I was reclassified. In your case, that rule that medman quoted would probably apply.

#2) I took about a year of spanish in college, but that's really it. I think it's one of those things that will help you but it doesn't necessarily hurt if you are not fluent. I don't think it is worth your time to do all that just for the sake of applying.

Good luck.
