University of Tennessee c/o 2023 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
OOS ACCEPTED!! I got accepted to my instate so I might relinquish my offer at Tennessee. But I really love Tennessee vet school, this is my first choice, but l the OOS tuition is so much

It really is. My stomach has been doing flips since 3pm. I know of several people who haven't heard yet. I just want to know if they send out acceptance letters in waves or if they're all out at once. I kinda want to call in the morning just to ask that. I know not everyone applying is in the groups I'm in, but many are, and along with those I know of outside of groups as well, less than a third of the seats have been offered. So while candidates among popular social media groups COULD make up the minority of candidates.... I'm telling myself there's still a chance to hear tomorrow and that maybe I just wasn't at the very top of the pool.
I have only heard of those who have been accepted. I work with an applicant who also hasn’t received any news. This wait is so much worse when there are people who know they’re in already

Just got an email saying I was waitlisted so everyone who hasn’t heard, emails are being sent out!

Rejected, IS, I'm devastated but I'll be back next year! Yall who got in, if you want one of those t shirts Im glad to make you one! I'm happy for everyone so far and wish I was going to be there with you but it just wasn't meant for me this year.

You are so kind. The results of this cycle have surprised me in many ways. There are many people on this forum who are more than capable of being great vets and I'm still rooting for all of you to get the decision you were looking for in the near future....next cycle is getting ready to open and it will fly by before you know it. Celebrate yourselves for making it to this point!

Noo! I’m so sorry to hear that. Please apply again so we can still meet you! I know you can do this! Also, I believe you can get a file review and see where you can beef up your application for next cycle.

🙁 I'm so sorry, I hope you stick around SDN because you have been such a lovely, positive presence. Good luck getting ready for next cycle :luck:

I was rejected as well.. super bummed about it but hopeful for next year.. we got this!

The class of 2022 will set up a page for you guys, typically not until after April 15th though

Someone just created one... don't think it was a current student though. So I guess it's an "unofficial" page?

Yeah I just found that, definitely not a current student. The official page will be a closed one that only people who accept their spot in the class will get added to.

Accepted OOS! Second time applying/interviewing at UT, so don't lose faith!! I'm accepting a seat at my IS though and just sent my letter to UT, so another seat will be opening here soon 😉

@WildZoo, do you know if we are allowed to ask which "number" we are on the waiting list?

You can certainly ask, I'm not sure if they'll tell you or not, or if they even have people ranked that way

Does anyone known how many are typically called off the waitlist or if any are called off since they over accept? I couldn’t find a post on last year’s forum of someone being accepted after being waitlisted. Tennessee offers out of state tuition waivers for students utilizing VA educational benefits so I could save about $115,000 by attending Tennessee so fingers crossed a miracle happens.

Congratulations to all that were accepted! I can't wait to meet all of you! :soexcited:I am in the class of 2022, so let me know if you guys have any questions, especially about the new curriculum, which started with my class! I'm also from Knoxville, so let me know if you have any questions about the area!

Congratulations to all of you guys on the waitlist too! Unfortunately, I don't know how many people are taken off the list. I know one of my classmates was originally on the waitlist (in-state) so it's not impossible to get off it! I don't know of anyone that is an OOS that was on the alternative list, but it could be that it was never mentioned...

Can you expand on “new curriculum?” I didn't know there was any difference.

Also, just to put it out there, I’m looking to rent a house with a fenced in yard for my puppers within 20 minutes of campus if anyone knows of anything!

The current curriculum started with the c/o 2022. It's exactly what they would have talked to you about on your interview day. Longer time in clinics so classes have been moved around and such compared to the old curriculum.

Yup! Instead of a year of clinics, we now have a year and a half! Because of this, some classes have been moved around (we are currently taking some classes that the c/o 2021 just had last semester). Some classes also had some credit hours cut or their material was merged with other classes!

Do you know if there are many scholarships available?

Do you know if there are many scholarships available?
There are some scholarships available but you don't apply to them individually. Sometime in your first semester, they will send out a form for you to fill out and then they use that information to see if anything fits. These usually aren't a whole lot though ~1000K, but it is still better than nothing! Once you get started, Dr. Kirk will send out emails regarding external scholarship opportunities as they become available.

You will get information regarding the Ingram Family Scholarship sometime this summer. This one you do have to apply for and is usually about ~20,000K, which I believe is per year? It is rewarded only to one student and is only available to TN residents (sorry out of staters!). Usually it goes to someone with a lot of financial need. Otherwise, you would have to look at outside sources for scholarships. The only other substantial scholarship that I can think of that will pay for most of your schooling is the Health Professions Scholarship Program with the Army.

I didn't get accepted to UT and wanted to review my file so I called...The person listed on the email won't be available for two weeks, which I understand because her husband is sick. The second person who should be helping me out won't be available for the next week. Just wanted to put this other there for ppl who got rejected and are wanting to get their files reviews. I just didn't like that the second person in charge isn't available either, which is ridiculous.

Schools don’t have to even offer you a file review. Some schools also won’t schedule any until after the deadline either. UTK probably is on spring break this coming week. Chill.

Actually, they did tell us in the email that we could contact them for a file review after March 8th. And their spring break is March 18th-22nd

It is in fact possible for multiple people to have have family/health emergencies at the same time.

Yeah. And I was saying some schools don’t let you until after the deadline. So be grateful they even 1. Do them and 2. Do them this early. Don’t complain you have to wait a whole WEEK to get a file review because some people are out for family emergencies.

And waiting a week changes your life how exactly...?

So sorry that the world doesn’t revolve around you, and that these people have a busy job and life that can’t completely stop this moment for your file review.

Let us all recognize that we are all human (sometimes that isn't exactly obvious). To those who got completely shut down from admissions crews, I am so sorry. I know what it is like to be completely rejected and it can feel like you are in a very low spot. I see your pain. Also, to those on the admissions teams, family/medical emergencies are scary and will ALWAYS take precedence over job concerns. It is rare for multiple admissions people to have emergencies? Yeah. But emergencies are never at a convenient time anyways. We can take some solace in that we actually have decisions made and sent to us!

Show some love, guys. That goes for EVERYONE. Our profession (vet med) is only going to grow and improve through connectedness and understanding, not harsh words or thoughts.

well I was just saying that because I paid for my admission process and I have the full right to know why I was rejected. Them not having people available to answer my questions is not making them look good. I guess here ppl do not like hearing the truth. But it is what it is guys! I understand family emergency but the second person in charge isn't available either.. well that's messed up!

Um working at a job ahah I would be getting my questions answered if there were someone available! And it better start revolving around the questions that I have. They clearly said contact them after March 8th but I guess it's my fault I should have known to wait a week or so lol.
A week matters to me because I might have to start working on my application to re apply and start planning accordingly for that.

That is really not the attitude to have. I think it was mentioned earlier that even if the customer is paying for services, if they are being unreasonably demanding and/or threatening, the person supplying the service has every right to send that customer on their way. And that is the way it should be. For some reason things are expected to be supplied on immediate demand these days, and that is not the way the world works. Pleasant surprise when it does, but that isn't reality. These people have an entire school to run, and admissions is a small piece of it. I think a little understanding and respect will go a long ways.

They never said they wouldn’t give you a file review, it’s just going to take a little longer than anticipated.

Remember how we just waited almost 3 extra weeks to find out about admissions? We were all ancy but no one got ugly about it. Sometimes you have to prioritize tasks (which we will also have to do as vets) and unfortunately no one can do everything at once and someone will have to wait. There’s about 6 months until next year’s application so take a little breather and enjoy a break. You deserve it after all the effort put forth to prepare yourself for admissions.

This reaction is a little much, to be honest. A lot of smaller schools have smaller admissions crews and may be more affected by unexpected emergencies. Just as you'd like your information, the 2nd person may be dealing with a lot more than usual and have delays.

You may be "entitled" to answers because you paid a fairly nominal fee to apply, but that fee doesn't entitle you to immediate answers. Patience is key, especially when it's a long process to begin with. What's the hurry? The application cycle doesn't start for a few more months and you should always be trying to improve your application between cycles on the chance you don't get in. There is never any guarantee.

Good luck on future applications. Waiting 2 weeks will not hurt your application in any meaningful way.

Hey dude, so sorry to hear about this! I understand your frustration and understand the pain of rejection. I was frustrated too when I got rejected the first time I applied! But please try and be compassionate and understanding towards the people in admissions! They work hard going through all the applications and sometimes, things happen that are out of our control!

I would like to let you know that even if you do get a hold of one of them, it might still take more time to get your application review. When I got rejected, I didn't get my application review until May! This is of course, to be expected since there are other applicants that want their applications reviewed as well. I completely understand not being able to stand still, but patience is an important quality to have in veterinary medicine

Hey! thanks for sharing your experience. Yes, i guess I understand now. I was just going by the date that they gave me on the email and I really have no clue how reviewing works so I guess I got really frustrated when they told me to wait few more weeks. This was my first time applying so not too familiar with the process. But your experience did helped me explain a lot! Thank you so much! 🙂
