Hello Everyone,
I've received several PM's in the last few days regarding the interview format at UIWSOM. To help ease your nerves, I will talk about basic logistics of the day but cannot go into any specifics.
The day will consist of a light breakfast, followed by various faculty members presenting themselves (including the Dean) and their mission for UIWSOM. There will be around 35-40 interviewees, and you will be split up into two groups. One group will enter the MMI sessions and the other will hear more from various faculty members regarding the mission, curriculum, and other general features of UIWSOM.
As for the MMI, this school utilizes a TRUE MMI. There will be 1o stations, which is excellent because MMI's should consist of anywhere between 6-14 stations and most other DO schools that utilize MMI only do like 2? So yea, just MMI and no traditional interview portion. You will have 10 min. per station, and 2 min. to transition to next station and prepare yourself. No clipboard and pens/pencils are allowed (you won't need it). The only way I recommend preparing for the interview is by going on Youtube and typing in "Medical school MMI questions and answers" and watching various videos on cases and how they should be answered. Get a feel for how you want to approach MMI questions in general. DO NOT read books, they are a waste of time and won't help. YOU WILL NOT find the MMI questions anywhere online or in a book, as the faculty have creatively made their own.
For MMI questions, they will care much more about your reasoning and logic as opposed to the answers. Ex. Do you believe abortion should be legal? Yes or No? WHY? They care about the WHY portion much, much more than the Yes or No part. Can you provide a logical argument for your answer, and can you defend it in the face of differing opinions? There's no way to prepare other than to be mentally fresh and ready to think on your feet. It's fun and don't be nervous. You will have an opinion and just be yourself. If your intentions are right and you have good ethics it will shine on it's own. 🙂
For everyone interviewing, this school is AMAZING!!! The faculty and staff are sincere, genuine, incredibly welcoming, and want us all to succeed. This school is excellent if you are spiritual and do believe that everything happens for a reason. Texas is incredible, food options Galore (not good if trying to lose weight), everything conveniently accessible and everything is comfortable (many 24 hour stores within a mile of campus). Weather is amazing, no snow but does get hot and humid in the summers (which we may or may not be around for). Dr. Madson, the Dean, is INCREDIBLE as she is fully invested in this school, is easily approachable and will speak to you if you'd like, and I have no doubts whatsoever this school will be short of amazing. She is passionate about her profession, and it shows when you speak to her and the innovative model she has structured for UIWSOM.
All of the staff and faculty here are not only amazing, but they work as a team and they're ALL friendly and approachable. I want to give shoutouts to everyone of them individually but this post would get too long. Good luck everyone!!! 🙂
Rejected - Post secondary. My first straight up rejection 🙁
I'm sorry to hear that, keep your chin up. It's a long and hard road for all of us.(You did not interview right, just denied after secondary?)

Are the "rejections" sent out as a straight up rejection (i.e. we are no longer considering your application) or are they sent out as a wait list to interview (currently unable to interview you but if space permits, we will let you know)?
I received the second msg and am wondering if this is the same "rejection" msg people received.
Thanks!! 🙂No thats not a rejection. Mine was straight up there s alot of competitive applicants etc. So you still have hope!
That will be cute! I was wondering the same, It will be worth asking along the line.ahahahDo you think there will be in-house scholarships for accepted students?
For those of you getting rejections, chin up! This is my 2nd year applying. Last year was a sea of rejections, all pre-interview. I took it as a learning experience as to the application process for medical school. I made sure to talk to admissions and review my application to make it better. It definitely worked out! 🙂 It's still early, so I wish you all luck in geting interviews as the season continues!
Moved my interview til the end of the year. If all goes as planned, I will cancel my interview. Hopefully it goes to one you if I do. I'll know for sure mid November. Just a heads up to my peeps that's on edge this cycle.
We could reschedule interviews? What's everyone's take on this? Should I reschedule if I'm not ready? 🙁

Reschedule cause ur not ready? Hell no, are you crazy. It's not the MCAT, just be urself. I would'nt reschedule a interview that's rolling admissions cause I'm not ready. Get ready. I only moved mine cause it conflicted with a school of higher priority on my list. Other than that I take the earliest date for every school. These seats fill up...We could reschedule interviews? Yeah, you guys do have a point. I recently got some feedback from my mock interviewer and they do not think I'll be ready in 2 weeks. 🙁 I guess I won't reschedule. I'll just prepare diligently until then..

When were you complete?II yesterday, declined. Hope it goes to a good peer.
August 2ndWhen were you complete?
I think there are wrong answers, but not just one right answer. MMI problems can be approached in many different ways. Just my two dineroSome advice on the MMI, Remember there is no wrong answer. Just be able to give valid logical reasons behind it. The interview is trying to see if you can quickly and logically think your way thru the problem. When you enter the room introduce yourself then restate the question/scenario. Then state all the options you have then choose your decision and be able to back it up. Don't hesitate and change your answer later.

Yes I hear that a lot! But there are definitely wrong answers. There are however, no one way of answering the questions right!I think there are wrong answers, but not just one right answer. MMI problems can be approached in many different ways. Just my two dinero
Still haven't heard anything from this school - interviewed on Sept. 10th. A little worried. Not sure if they're done giving out acceptances :/
They'd better not be, considering I just turned in and payed for the secondary![]()
If you have not received an email of rejection or waitlist then you still have a chance, so chin up and have hope!Still haven't heard anything from this school - interviewed on Sept. 10th. A little worried. Not sure if they're done giving out acceptances :/
Being a new school, there's gonna be a constant turnover and a HUGE movement in the waitlist. Don't give up hope!Waitlisted 🙁 🙁. Could of been rejected I suppose but still not the news I was hoping for.
