Hey, so only have a couple days left to decide, and I am so torn. Obviously, I have to make my own decision, but would like to get your guys' input. I am currently interested in derm, but this could change. Vanderbilt is ~$5K more/yr, this will be the first year with the new curriculum, and is far away from home. Stony Brook is only a 2 hour drive from home, which I guess is the major thing keeping me torn between these two. I've never lived away from home, but Nashville seemed like a great place to live. Not sure if the distance is as important as I am making it out to be, since I may not even get to see my family much even if I attend Stony Brook, given it is 2 hours away???

I would choose Vandy hands down here, for only $20k more. A 2 hour drive is still a pretty long trip and it's not like you'll be popping home every other weekend in med school anyway. If the only thing you like better about Stony Brook is the distance, then I think you already made your decision.

Like the last poster wrote, 2 hours is still a big drive when you are totally involving yourself in medical school. Also, it gets less and less likely that you will be able to travel and experience someplace different. If you want to experience another place, now's the time.

Looks like vandy would be the better choice. Eeek...that means med school in just 2 months!

20k is worth it. enjoy vandy

also send them a letter about how you love it there but stony brook is cheaper for in state students and how money is a factor blah blah. maybe you'll get a discount
