VMCVM c/o 2029 Applicants

Regarding prep-- there is not much that you can do to prep for these. You can look up examples of multiple-mini interview format questions and look through them, but it is not like a hot/cold interview that is directly about you or information you provided. More scenario based. I would also recommend reviewing the phase 4 evaluation section on their admissions page regarding evaluation criteria.

Additionally, the info sessions prior to interviews are helpful, so attend one if you can!
So are questions less like "tell me about a time that showed _________ trait" and more like scenarios that they want to see how you'd act in?

I don't know exactly how much is too much to share, so here is what the website says
"Interviews are conducted in the following format: In-Person Multiple Mini-Interviews (MMIs), a series of timed scenarios designed to assess such attributes as communication skills, ethical and moral judgment, management of team and self, problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, creativity, resiliency, and cultural bias."

if you look up "MMI questions med school" or "MMI questions vet school" and there should be plenty of examples to look through 🙂

The second info session is at six but the Zoom link says seven…

When was the link sent out ?

I really appreciate how transparent they’re being about the interview process for OOS applicants- the format is a bit daunting and so I appreciate that! I plan to attend one of info sessions on the 8th.

For in-person interviews, are we expected to dress professionally for the info session/reception on 1/10?

If there weren't any details on any sort of itinerary, in my experience, it's usually safe to assume business casual. It also doesn't hurt to ask admissions if no info was provided on it. 🙂

Has anyone received an email from Kira talent? I know sometimes my email has problems so I want to make sure I am not missing anything.

Has anyone got off the IS interview waitlist? I know today was the deadline and I still haven’t heard anything or saw anyone else get off of it.

Not that I know of. I figured by now they would email us with rejections or first thing tomorrow maybe

no but blacksburg was hit with a snow storm and campus was closed today so maybe they’ll extend to tomorrow? but I’m pretty sure they won’t send out rejections because the email said if we don’t hear we’re no longer being considered.

I guess I gotta reread my email again. Yeah I got hit by the same snow storm

Just declined my OOS interview spot because I know I'll be pursuing other options. I hope someone gets off wait-list! Let me know if you do!

How did you do that, I want to decline mine but can't figure out how to.

I’m prepping for my interview this Saturday (eek) and I’m at a loss as to what to do with my hair. Would putting it up neatly in a claw clip look professional or should I do something else?

Absolutely! This is fine. As long as you look neat and professional, you’re golden.

I used to do interviews/hiring/research applications in education, I wouldn’t think twice about a claw clip! If anything, I might be jealous depending upon how cute it was. 🥰

Good luck this weekend! Rooting for you!

For those who are interviewing in person this weekend what kind of shoes are you wearing? I wanted to wear little/comfy heels but I know they said be prepared to walk and it’s supposed to snow lol.

Do you have a pair of boots that can look professional-ish with the right pair of pants? If so, I’d go with those, or maybe some lug-soled loafers - something that has traction!

This might be a stupid question, but how are you supposed to dress business casual in cold weather? Is it ok to wear a jacket? I have an in person interview at another school - someone from the west coast

Not a stupid question! You can wear a nice pair of pants and a blouse/button-up shirt +/- a blazer. I normally wear a pair of nicer lace up, dressier boots, but a sleek boot could work as well.

Jackets are absolutely okay! If you have a fancier winter coat like a topcoat then that’s fine, but NO ONE will care if you’re wearing a legitimate coat.

If you want any more guidance you can always DM me. I live near Philly and have had to dress business casual while dealing with snow.

Wear whatever you will be comfortable in. The walk is really just pertaining to tours, I would assume that they will allow applicants to park in the lot right in front of the school (but I'm not sure). Be prepared for a few stairs and being on your feet. It's not a TON of walking, but you will get a tour of the school as well as the teaching hospital I believe. 🙂 Best of luck

Oh, I’m an OOS interviewee. But my in person interview is about three hours from Blacksburg. I was curious bc people were already talking about how to dress but thanks anyways!

So I feel really dumb asking this but did I miss a whole email? Trying to plan what time I need to leave on Friday to get there for the reception and info session but can’t find what time they’re at?

I was about to ask same thing

Does anyone have the list of attributes that will be tested for the MMI? I couldn’t find them in my email.

No, this is for North Carolina. I would’ve asked there but their DVM interviews were months ago

This is what my email read:

"We have reviewed your applications and are sure that everyone we invite to interview, is academically qualified to be successful within the program. We do not need any further information about your experiences or academic performances after the application cutoff. What we do want to know about you is, do you possess:
• Critical Thinking Skills
• Problem Solving Skills
• Communication Skills
• Decision Making Skills
• Self-Awareness
• Responsibility
• Cultural Awareness
• Resiliency
• Growth Mindset
The scenarios we use have nothing to do with clinical veterinary medicine. For example, we would never ask you to make a diagnosis based on a scenario. However, you might read a scenario that puts you in the work environment of a veterinary practice."

FYI everyone coming for IS interviews that the roads may be bad again this weekend! The mountains around Blacksburg get pretty snowy.

Admissions told me 5:30 for the Saturday info session. I expect Friday is the same.

Did you get an email? I haven’t seen anything.
Yep, I got an email on 12/17/24 a few days after I scheduled the interview and sent my RSVP! It said:

Dear Class of 2029 Candidates,

We will be hosting a reception the night before your interview, which will include an information session, student panel, and refreshments. Join us Friday, January 10th, 2025 at 5pm in the Commons. The address to the college is 245 Duck Pond Drive, Blacksburg, VA 24061.

If you are looking for a place to stay during your visit, we have included an attachment with local hotel information.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
The VMCVM DVM Admissions Team

Oh that is so weird. I just went back and double checked everything from that day and I have nothing. I have the confirmation for my interview multiple times lmao and everything else so don’t know what happened to that email. But thank you!!!

Same here! I know I completed the form/rsvp but never received an email confirmation. Thanks for sharing your email!

hi guys, i missed the informational zooms today for OOS interviews. did anyone attend? if so could you share any notes 🙂
thank you !!

I think they will be emailing a document soon with a summary of the attributes they look for and tips

Anyone who attended the IS interview info session Friday evening and traveled with friends or family - were they able to attend the reception with you afterward, or are both for candidates only?
