Western c/o 2024

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think it’s crazy how many students they’re interviewing. Approximately 400 interviews for less than 100 slots since they over enrolled last year?? I feel for the professors that have to conduct all those interviews. They were really nice during mine but it’s bound to get tiring after a while. For comparison Davis interviews 240 students for 148 spots.

They’re interviewing 100 more people than last year I guess... and it’s a ~slightly~ smaller class size this year *nervously bites nails*
As far as I know it’s only slightly more getting interviewed? Can’t recall the number but it’s in the 10-50 more ballpark. Not 100.

Yeah -- I felt really good about my interview..but a 1 to 4 seat to interviewee ratio feels very random with who will get picked in the end.

On one hand I really appreciate that they are trying to make the application review as holistic as possible. On the other hand, so many interviewing makes me feel like I'm not a serious candidate.

Kathy told us on Saturday during the admissions/financial aid talk that they interviewed 400 last year and are Interviewing about 500 this year. I wrote down the numbers lol
*edit: or at least that’s how many they are expecting based on invites they sent out

Oh wow really? In the presentation they gave me on Saturday they said 400.. so which is right lol!

Same! I was told 430 ballpark I think

Haha idk then, I did see on the PowerPoint 400 but she verbally told us closer to 500 And we all commented on it and that’s why they added the extra January date for interviews vs last year’s schedule. Whatevaaaa thoooo either way we should be getting news at end of January so luckily we don’t have to wait ~too~ long

Spoke with Alexandra Higgins today and looks like we won’t be hearing back until late January since they have scheduled interviews early January. Smh

Did anyone send thank you emails after their interviews?

I didn't because I couldn't remember one of the two interviewers names (and couldn't find them on the faculty page). Hopefully it doesn't matter :smack:

I dont think it matters! One of my interviewers didn't bring their business card haha 🙂

Yes. I emailed the people who I interviewed with and thanked them for their time. 🙂
Awesome!! 🙂 I had a great time talking to my interviewers haha

2nd time applying and received my rejection a few days ago. Good luck everyone!

Hi Everyone! Congrats to everyone who received an interview invite/have already interviewed! I have mine on Monday and this will be my first official interview of the MMI format, so I am a bit more nervous than I have been for other interviews. I was wondering if anyone had any tips? I have been practicing answers to possible behavioral questions, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice for Western's interview specifically. Thanks in advance and best of luck to everyone!

Hey! — so they call it an MMI, but it’s not really like most other MMIs. The interview prep page they provide sums it up pretty well. You will be in two different rooms with 2 people each (mostly faculty) for 15 minutes each. They will ask you two standard behavioral related questions (tell me about a time when...) and outside of that it’s just conversational! It was pretty laid back, I wouldn’t stress much, just be yourself and be confident in your past experiences. Think about stories that you could use to answer standard behavioral questions (google some and practice these if you want)!

Thank you so much! I appreciate it!

I’d agree with them! It was very laid back and conversational. Not like answer this Q and then sit in silence. You’ll be fine! Just be yourself. Good luck tomorrow!! oh! My tips: smile! More people should smile 🙂 and talk to people. That helped calm my nerves before the interview!

does anyone know if the interview is open or closed file? and if they ask any follow up questions besides the 2 behavioral questions in the rooms?

Closed! They know nothing about you!

Closed and yes, many follow up questions. It will be more of a conversation than just them asking one or two questions and you answering it. You'll probably say something and they'll bounce off of it with something new.

Wonderful, thank you! I recently went on a different interview and while the interviewers were nice, it wasn't very conversational - it was more just question, answer, question, answer so it was kind of stressful because it was less conversational and more just me talking, so I'm glad to hear that Western's was laid back and conversational.

I got into my #1 school tonight (!!!) so I’ve withdrawn my application to Western. Best of luck to everyone!!

Hey everyone! I had my interview yesterday (Monday), which as most of you know was the last interview day. Just wanted to give you all an update! In the Admissions/Curriculum presentations at the end, they said that everyone should hear back sometime around the end of January! They didn't give a specific date, but they seemed pretty set on letting everyone know by the end of the month. Best of luck to everyone!

Does anyone know if western wants our fall transcripts? And if so by when? I only see a request for spring on the portal but I want to make sure

It says on the presentation print out they gave us on interview day that fall or winter transcripts are due by march 31, 2020 for accepted students 🙂

Hey guys!
So the end of the Jan is approaching, and I am so nervousssss.
Any news on the exact date of decision releasing?

I called them 3 days ago and they said they would release results on the 22 of January. I think it was Alex Higgins who said that. So im not sure if that was tentative or not
