AORTA - ELIGIBLE FOR INTERVIEW SELECTION: What does this mean?

Hey, thank you so much for clarifying all of this it means a lot to us neurotic premeds!

Does this mean that the AORTA groups will go through the list of applicants the first time where they talk about overall impressions of the applicant to determine eligibility for EFI then they meet again for a deeper dive into the applicants for selection for the interview? Is the first score used in the second at all?

Does this further mean that, 75-80% are scored favorably the first time then when they meet again ~15% of the instate applicants and ~7% of the out of state applicants, who are EFI, are sent an interview?

Thank you for your clarification!
AORTA only meets once to discuss and vote on an application. They will have an application for review for about 2 weeks prior to their discussion meeting.

I'm past the 2-week period of when I received my secondary for UCF by 4 days due to being busy with 30 other secondary applications. Is it okay to not be able to submit secondaries to UCF until Mid-August as an OOS applicant?

It's often best to have everything in earlier, especially when applying to OOS public schools like UCF. But if your stats and ECs say otherwise, I see no harm in doing so later. I think Florida schools are known to be very in-state heavy because the schools here are working on promoting more primary care physicians tied to the state of Florida. Although, they have been increasing OOS applicants (UM, USF, maybe FIU).

Hello @REL, so just to be clear, receiving an EFI does not mean much since 75-80% of applicants receive it? If this is wrong, do you mind elaborating on what EFI means and how we should interpret it?

this is what is posted verbatim from the applicant dashboard under current overall application status:

AORTA - ELIGIBLE FOR INTERVIEW SELECTION
Your file is in a pool of applicants to be considered for an interview group on a near-weekly basis as we construct interview groups. This means the file is eligible for selection for an interview group, IT DOES NOT MEAN that selection for an interview is guaranteed or will be granted.

i think EFI simply means your complete file was reviewed and meets minimum eligibility criteria to receive an interview... but does not mean you will get an interview.

This is from post 40 (I think). To me this is very clear. You submitted your application indicating that you met the minimum qualifications. This essentially says we agree and your application will be considered for a future interview invitation.

It also means that you can submit an update (max 3 through the cycle) that enhances your application if there are additional things you want us to know as the weeks/months pass. Updates can be submitted at your dashboard area.....multiple topics can be included in a single update. IF you submit an update it is always good to send a simple email that "I submitted an update to my application" so that we can check to ensure that is was received correctly.

I suspect this answer is more than you asked for and it is all that I have on this topic.

Thank you @REL! Just out of curiosity, do you have an idea of how many of the 5500 people who submit primaries to secondaries actually end up turning in a secondary?

Bruh….whether or not you know isn’t going to matter. Med school admissions is competitive. There are a lot of good students and good writers who submit secondaries. Regardless of whether it’s 5500 or 1000, it doesn’t matter. Just run your race, submit early, and do your best.

Apologies if that message came off the wrong way, I know med school admissions is competitive. I was just trying to better understand where 1400-1600 number for HFI came from that was mentioned on previous threads

Has anyone received interviews yet?
I don’t think they’ve sent any yet, but the website says the first wave will go out sometime in August.

As of last Friday, REL has retired. So you all are stuck with me. ;) I'll do my best to pop in here and keep you updated just as REL has for many years. While I'm new to posting on SDN, (left that fun to REL for the past 8+ years) I'm not new to UCF COM Admissions. I've been the director for the past 3 years and the assistant director for 5 years prior to that.

Regarding the question about how many students actually finish a secondary... last year 2,876 completed a secondary application and 500 were invited to interview. We received 5,521 verified applications from AMCAS last cycle.

Hope that helps.

Any knowledge on the chances of interview after AORTA?

Everyone who completes a secondary and has all of their LORs submitted should have EFI status at some point. Looks like only 102/ 2,876 didn't submit all of their letters in time last year. If my math is correct that would mean about 18% got an interview last year of those who were EFI. EFI means that you have all the minimum criteria to be considered for an interview (min metrics, secondary materials, etc.) but it doesn't mean you are guaranteed an interview. From EFI applicants are batched into groups and reviewed for interview consideration. We will review for interview selection from Aug-Dec/Jan and interview offers will go out from now until early to mid-Feb.

Don't get panicked by the percentages. Let the process run its course (easy for me to say, right?).

Do interview invites go out in batches as well, or all at once?

We will call about 17 students a week to schedule. Some weeks we will double that so we can stay on track to complete 500 interviews by the end of Feb.

I literally wake up and go to sleep thinking about this school. I think I’d sell my left kidney to go here! For legal purposes, I’m kidding—I’d sell my right one instead.

Anyways, with that said… does anyone know if it’s normal to send letters of interest before interviews? I applied to other schools and have 3 interviews as of now but would drop every single one the minute I got an A from UCF.

The thing is, my husband and I sold our house so I could apply to medical school and I don’t have the funds to pay other deposits to save a seat in case UCF never calls me :(

Any ideas?

Not to be harsh/uncaring, but it's probably best for right now to focus your energy on preparing for the interviews you already have scheduled. You could always contact this school's admission department to explain your financial issue if your receive other acceptances, which wouldn't be before mid-October at the very earliest (if those schools are also using the AMCAS application.) Good luck!

It's not uncaring or harsh at all. I think you have a good point. I just wasn't sure if this is something people do to show interest. I have AORTA status which is good but my MCAT is way below their average. Thanks for your advice though!

II received today by phone call!!!!
Super odd question but when they called, did the school name actually come up on your phone? I get so many spam calls with FL area codes (even with spam blocker) and now I'm afraid I'm gonna end up screening their call if I'm blessed enough to get one 😅

1. If an applicant is called for an interview, or anything else, it will likely be from a 407 area code. The caller will leave a voicemail and usually follow-up with an email.
2. The Admissions Office is a service-oriented group and would be happy to receive an email regarding any special circumstances via email to [email protected].
3. Every applicant also had 3 Updates that you can use throughout the cycle via the UCF application portal. Updates can include multiple topics in each submission (ie. more volunteering, grades, research, special circumstances, personal situations, etc.). You might consider keeping one Update available for late in the cycle in the event you want to signal the committee regarding your desire to commit to the UCF program if that is your choice. IF YOU SUBMIT AN UPDATE it is a good idea to EMAIL the ADMISSIONS OFFICE to ensure that the update was received in the system. Any Updates WILL be available to those who are making interview and acceptance decisions.

Interviewed recently and got an email saying they will call with the decision on October 17th. Needless to say I won't be getting any sleep that night.

Evidently things are moving along smoothly, otherwise we would hear about it here. Dont be afraid to ask any questions about the program as you move forward. Do your homework on the best program for your own needs. Remember that in the end, cost is a factor, but outcomes are more important. If you want to a primary care physician or a specialist pay attention to the Match lists to identify programs that may be best for you.

Hi, I was wondering if UCF would take Casper scores as an update, and view them favorably at all if the score was good?

Interviewed here and nervously waiting until October for the decision. How are my chances post interview as an OOS applicant? This is my only II :1whistle:

Hi everyone! Does anyone know what the decision notification looks like for those who haven’t yet attended a virtual visit? I got the email that the committee is going to review my application soon and notify me 1-3 days after, with the qualification that they only notify after attending a virtual visit. I’m attending the visit at the end of October- should I expect a call 1-3 days after the visit? Thanks in advance!
