On another note, is there anyone out there that feels even more uneasy about a BCM acceptance based on not receiving a pre-match offer from UTSW? I know they're not the same school, but the handful of BCM students I know were also pre-matched at UTSW when they applied. 🙁

Yeah. Not really sure what to make of it, as they are both my dream schools (like literally 1a and 1b, and I'm not sure in what order). I guess we really just won't know one way or the other for a while.

Anyone know what day of the week BCM traditionally sends out its batches of acceptances every week or two? My guess is Friday, but I'm wondering if anyone else has more insight.

there's no set day or time. it can happen on a friday, a wednesday, a tuesday, whatever. if you look through old threads you'll find people got accepted almost any day of the week. sorry for the lack of predictability in the process! hang in there.... baylor is soooo worth the extended post-interview wait!

INTERVIEW INVITE FOR 12/12!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😀😀😀 finally i had been hoping for one of these for a lonnnnnnnnng time!!!!!!! Thank you Baylor!
kevinmw5.....how did you receive your invite? was it by email or was it updated on your status page?

It seems like the last couple of batches have been on Fridays, but every time I get a call unexpectedly my heart jumps a little 😛

i don't remember who wrote about getting his acceptance on xmas eve - but he makes a good point.... it's always unexpected. i waited for a phone call for months. then one afternoon while taking a nap after a really bad day, my phone rang. i was so annoyed b/c i thought it was my mom calling and i had just fallen asleep. *surprise!* it was Baylor!!! 🙂

It was me.

I really think is better to completely ignore that you interviewed at Baylor so that you won't go mad waiting for a call. Most of my classmates weren't accepted for a while after they interviewed.

The upside to this is that even if you interviewed in Jan/Feb, it's not 100% guaranteed to be a waitlist spot like it is at other schools.

I've decided to use this philosophy as well. With a UTSW acceptance I feel much better.

btw, big congrats to Spurs!! Too bad the Spurs are no good this year though... 😉

Yet, sir... yet 😀

Yeah, I know it doesn't sound good to hear it from me, but just don't worry about Baylor for now; up until about 7 hours ago, I was positive that I had no chance of hearing until March/April, if ever, since I didn't hear the first week I was eligible to hear. Made today quite the pleasant surprise, but at least I wasn't jumping out of my skin every time my phone rang 😀

Furthermore, UTSW is also a great school; if I get in there, I'm going to seriously consider going there too. Really, I just wanted one of the two 🙂

Anyone know how long it takes to get the official mail? I feel tentative to announce this to the world until I have something in-hand proving I got in and I wasn't really just dreaming... it was so short, like literally a 45 second conversation, I just sat there completely in shock afterwards wondering if that had actually happened! 😀

1-2 weeks. Also, don't send your $300 deposit until you are certain you are going to be attending Baylor. It's a pain to get it back (and you can't after April 15th). And don't worry about the immunization records. You can deal with that in the summer.

Congratulations!! You're at the beginning of a very long and rewarding journey (or so I hope) 🙂

Heh Spurs, I felt exactly the same way. Especially since my MOM got the phone! I had to believe she was telling me the truth...

😉

I got my letter a few weeks after the call. BTW, there's no deposit to hold the spot until you're entirely sure you're going 🙂 So you can deposit the money any time before May 15th (if you're sure that's where you want to go on the 15th).

There's a checklist of things that you want to do before matriculation so make sure you photocopy the forms that you get. They want the checklist back with your signature.

Cool! Well hopefully I get my letter somewhat soon 🙂 How long is this checklist?

after my interview yesterday, i can safely say i am completely 100% in love with Baylor. i'm not sure how i'm going to handle waiting to see if i get that call =/

8 items.

They need your official transcripts from when you graduate; submit your immunization records.

"Maintain high levels of academic performance in all course undertaken between the date of application and matriculation."

Stuff like that.

But keep it so you don't forget.

I'm really wondering what "high level" means, because right now after all of these interviews and missing class on Fridays, I'm really worried that I'm probably headed for a C in Molecular Bio :/

Yeah, I'm kind of curious myself. I think I'll be okay, though because of the particular course load I chose to take. But I definitely wish you good luck with molecular biology :luck::luck::luck:. Not an easy course in my experience.

You could always have a friend call, if you're curious...

Yeah, unluckily, Molecular Bio was required for my major, and the way the major is set up, there was no way for me to take it before this semester... oh well, hopefully everything will turn out OK! 🙂

Heh heh heh.

It just means you got your degree. Nothing more or less. But don't make it entirely obvious that you partied all the time by failing all of your classes.

I had a question for the current BCM students. How is "campus life" being affected with this whole Rice-BCM merger plan and Dr. Traber stepping down? I've heard rumors that some professors may consider leaving the campus due to the disorganization.

I haven't heard anything to that effect. The vibe that I get is that little will change for med students.

I figured, especially since the students are a major source of income for the school, heh. Now I just gotta get an acceptance. 🙂

Yeah! Same here. So, the next phone calls go out in 2 weeks? :scared:

So last Saturday, people who had interviewed already got an email that essentially said they keep a running rank of all of the students they have interviewed this season, regardless of when they interviewed, and that EACH WEEK they'll take some variable number of interviewees off the top of the list and accept them. The frustrating thing is there's no rhyme or reason to which day of the week they'll send acceptances or when they'll decide to take a week off; I think we've seen acceptances on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays on different weeks, so it really seems like they just send acceptances out whenever they feel like it. And to top it all off, Baylor seems like it's half-rolling, half-nonrolling in that it tries to keep seats open all the way to the end of the interview season (i.e. nobody interviews for a spot on the waitlist), so a LOT of people don't hear from them until March/April.

So the moral of the story is, don't get your heart set on any one week/day, because you're probably going to be disappointed, as Baylor just has no real pattern to acceptances. I got my call when I was completely not expecting it😛

Incidentally, Dr. Greenberg shows up as "Unknown" on caller ID, so make sure you pick those up for the next few weeks! 🙂

Sounds great, Spurs! Thanks for the explanation.

After my interview, a student interviewer gave his email address which ends with bcm.edu. However, in the Baylor website I found his name contact info and everything is the same but it ends with bcm.tmc.edu. For the students at Baylor, do you guys have two seperate email account for your school and tmc? I am trying to send a thank you note (guess he prefers email since he asked me to send an email about any concerns) and I am confused

no they're the same

Anyone else think midnight is "fair game" for receiving a phone call from Dr. Greenberg?

lol... Baylor can do whatever they want, I suppose😉

Seriously, it's like watching a kettle boil; I guarantee they're not going to be calling you when you're staring intently at your phone 😛 You're a strong candidate, they know you love the school, you're in state... you've got every reason to believe you'll get good news from them at some point this cycle 🙂

If any current Baylor folk read this, could someone pm me? I'm looking for a mentor of mine who is an M1 at Baylor, but I can't find him on the website. I'd like his email so I can tell him that I'm coming.

JUST GOT THE CALL!!! ACCEPTED TO BAYLOR COLLEGE OF MEDICINE!!!!!!!!:banana::banana:

AAAH! TWO CALLS IN TWO DAYS!! WHAT A GREAT THANKSGIVING!

:soexcited:

I got the acceptance phone call this morning too 😀 Now that makes for a GREAT Thanksgiving!

Congrats everyone!
When did you interview?
Add yourself to the acceptance thread 😀

I think I read somewhere that Baylor accepts most of its class in March? Can anyone confirm this?

Congrats, Archdelux and cujo!!! Wow, so now Dr. Greenberg is calling people in the morning? Talk about random - he can call at anyday at anytime. Someone mentioned it earlier, but I guess the best way to approach this process is to entirely forget about it... but have your phone on you at all times. 😀

No one ever responded to my "in the area" email. 🙁
