Though it is fundamentally grounded upon schadenfreude, so it kind of makes you feel like a horrible person for laughing, this is actually the funniest website I've ever seen. I can spend hours looking at posts without realizing how much time has gone by.

Hope it helps some of you!

So, do you guys think the snow storm is going to affect when acceptances are going out? :scared: So far we've gotten about 8 inches where I live.

Feel better, Chad! Singing while sick = no fun. Is that show why you're going out of the country? (some ambiguity here: you started rehearsals on Saturday or the show is on Saturday? 😉 )

Thanks! Fortunately the health issue I'm having doesn't affect my voice. I started rehearsals on Saturday - this show runs the end of April/beginning of May. I'm going out of the country for a medical/dental mission. 🙂

just called the admissions office. they said the committee is meeting TONIGHT to make final decisions and that decisions won't be mailed until Wednesday. People in the tri-state area should "definitely expect something by Friday" according to the really nice lady on the phone. more waiting!

Ugh. Well, we CA will probably hear by next Monday or Tuesday then. Blah.

I'm sorry Chad. Who knows may be you will get the letter before you leave the country.

Not till Friday? Aww man. 🙁

March 2nd 2009 = most anti-climactic day I have counted down to ever.

Kinda weird knowing that they're meeting today though... :xf:

Do they only mail acceptances (like interview invites), or is the info also available online? I have my spring break next week and so I wont have access to my mail for a long time..

Sounds like I probably will not be getting a decision before I leave for my trip... but then again in light of my recent medical problems I may not be able to make it on the trip. 🙁

You might get lucky, priority mail is pretty fast...if they mail it early wednesday, it might be ok.

You don't have any roommates you could call? They could tell you if there's a big envelope waiting for you...

Chad, did you let P&S know that you will be gone and not have access to your snail mail? I went abroad earlier this year, and I sent emails before I left to the two schools that I could be hearing back from during my absence. I just told them I wouldn't have access to my phone or mail but that I would have periodic internet access. They both sent me their decisions over email while I was gone, even though their usual protocol was over the phone. Just a thought! Maybe you could contact your interviewer?

Thanks for the advice! I might end up doing this tomorrow (i.e. after final decisions have been made!)

qft.

For some reason, waiting for this decision makes my own inertia increase tenfold. I don't want to do work, I don't want to go to work, I don't want to do anything but wait. 😳

p.s. It's "climactic."

haha, thanks for correcting that. I'm usually pretty good about spelling but apparently "climatic" is a word, just not the word I wanted, so spell checker's never caught me!

So do you think the admissions committee is working hard through the wee hours of the morning, or do you think our files have finally been judged?

Oh, funny! I had never thought of that, but I suppose "climatic" is a word ("Of or relating to climate," I assume?). Though I'm not sure just how one would ever use it.

I do not think this speculating about the adcoms' activities is very productive. Shouldn't you be studying or something? 😛

(For what it's worth, I suspect they'll be up all night... unless they just tossed all our names in a hat... which is probably how it will seem either way.)

Things don't always have to be productive. How about just plain old entertaining? 😀
BTW, I am working on my thesis. As a 2nd semester senior in college, I've stopped studying for classes.

When 100 pre-meds call Columbia to inform them that they won't be around to receive their decisions, I'm pointing my finger at you 😉.

You guys are making me ridiculously nervous...

...what are our odds again?

:scared::scared:

~25% acceptance post-interview. But that includes people accepted from the waitlist.

So this implies that fewer (perhaps substantially fewer) than 25% of all interviewed applicants will get an acceptance letter soon?

I think I saw somewhere on this thread that there's a fair amount of WL movement.

My educated guess is that they will be offering acceptances equal to the number of slots that they have open in the first wave (since I believe there is a rule about doing that soon). They will most likely offer additional acceptances as members of their "dream team" withdraw.

Hey guys,

So I just called the admission office. Apparently, they do this by hand and will not send all of them out in one day. The lady told me some will go out this afternoon though. So some of us will know pretty soon.

Good luck to everyone waiting👍

OK. I believe the alarm has officially been sounded by CALibration. Start panicking everyone! I'll have my *e-defibrillator* ready to shock people back to e-life LOL.

I really do hope everyone gets good news tomorrow or the day after or the day after (depending on where you live). It's been a pleasure!

I love how they do everything by hand, though. It's so personal!

i live in jersey so here's to hoping i get news tomorrow or the day after!

I'm a fan of email if it means I get my notification faster...anyone?

Wow here we go...final stretch! I'd much prefer email to snail mail. Plus, I don't think hand signing is all that personal. For a lot of schools, the dean gives you a call the night after the committee has met to let you know.

Agreed. Screw personal attention--I just want to know and move on. I'm willing to wait however long to hear back, but the thing that sucks about mail is that everyone will get their decisions at different times, and thus you'll know there's a decision on the way without actually knowing what the decision is...and thus this thread will get even more panicky.

Panicky? SDN thread? No...🙄

Just tell me already Columbia!

I'm all for the personal attention as long as I get in

i so much prefer email too. the mail's gonna take a week to get to Canada...nervous!

so weird to think that i have my mom guarding the mailbox for the next few days...does anyone know if an acceptance envelope is larger, or just the standard size? for some other schools, it was literally just a regular paper letter saying acceptance.

Priority Mail envelope = acceptance
Anything else = regret/waitlist

"regret" - - - hahaha.... at least you stayed true to the first two letters.

priority mail = big envelope?

priority mail = big envelope?

It should be marked as "Priority" so you will know right away even if it's small.
