Thanks for the help. One more question then - when they say "What sort of work did you do?", are they asking in general (i.e. including current work?) or specifically during college?

All those work questions are quite confusing!
 
haha they are. i would write work during Ugrad. but again to be safe, if you ahve room write something like: Job Title (after graduation).
 
do you think that a transcript from a summer class (grades were posted too late to be included with AMCAS) is an appropriate thing to add under the optional additional information upload?

I'm beginning to give up with Columbia. My secondary and all supporting materials were in by the end of june and I have yet to be notified that I am complete. When I called them last week...they told me they are still matching primaries with secondaries. I don't know what that means but how hard can it be?

I'm with ya. I called and heard the same thing. They just must be slow, dont lose hope 😉

Yeah, when I called they said they had huge boxes of primarys from AMCAS and were going through them all manually still. Then when I called again a week later, I got the same response.

I got am email that they got my secondary this week, but that they were waiting on a letter that was sent in early june. When I emailed them they said that they probably lost it and I should have it sent again, so if you had letters sent in early they might have been lost.
 
Help! I don't know what to write for the first essay, the one about the satisfaction you'll receive from becoming a physician. I feel like I already talked about all of the motivations for being a doctor in my AMCAS PS. I can't think of anything else?
Did you guys basically just cut down and reword your PS or did you have to think of completely new reasons?

I speculated on my satisfactions with a greater degree of specificity for this essay. I thought about it both abstractly and concretely -- what overall satisfactions and what day-to-day satisfactions might I enjoy? Note: Do not read Panda Bear's posts before writing this essay 😛.

My question: Do collegiate extracurricular activities include only activities that you did AT your college or might they include things that you did DURING college that have nothing whatsoever to do with being in X,Y,Z club/team/whateverness.

i thought of new reasons/talked about different stuff than in my PS.
 
also, does anyone know of a way to get a status/file complete update besides calling?

On 7/23, they sent an e-mail saying they had received my secondary application. I also sent all of my letters in July.They recently sent another e-mail saying my application was complete and will be reviewed when the committee convenes in mid-September. So I guess they are sending e-mails.
 
I keep having problems any time I want to save a page on the application.

Question: Is everything submitted online for this secondary or are there hard copies, photos or checks to send? I was planning on submitting the application tonight, but I'm having those connection problems. It better start working in the next hour, because I'm going to the airport to go abroad for 2.5 weeks, and I can't mail anything from there.

I can log onto the secondary page. However, I submitted my app ~3 weeks ago and got a confirmation email, but when I go back to the secondary application website, it says that my app was not submitted and I can go in an change things. I haven't submitted my picture yet so I'm not "complete."

Has this happened for anyone else?

Well I might do that. The only reason I didn't before was because I got a confirmation email ~3 weeks ago that said "you have successfully submitted your application." And they aren't returning my email grrr.

I too am a bit distressed about writing this essay. Did anyone use an anecdote? I find that I can always best explain my situation using a story by making it more personal, but I'm not too sure what they want exactly here.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Need help with this one. I'm using Interfolio, but my adviser is writing one of my letters, so do I put "Packet" in that space or her name? Also, since I'm using Interfolio, is this page saying that I don't need to list the names of the other writers?

Also, can someone answer the question asked a few days ago about whether they require a hard copy or not? Thanks in advance

I would write "packet" but to be safe I'd wait till the morning and call first... it's only a few hours difference. and I don't know what you are talking about for hard copies.

Cool, thank you. I figure it's Columbia, they should be able to crack the code no matter how it's done. At least I would hope so. Maybe I'll just write everything in Wingdings to test their prowess...

Pretty sure everyone gets that even if they didn't apply to Columbia. I think I got that e-mail before my AMCAS was even verified. Sorry to burst your bubble 🙁

Columbia is non-rolling anyway, so I don't think there's a need to sweat it.

Hmmm... I know I am behind all of you in submitting this secondary but I was wondering if anyone uploaded an additional document?

I have two I could use:

1) A brief description of what I've done since graduation (I've been out of school for 4 years)

2) Overcoming adversity... I had a difficult childhood that affected my academics, a raised by wolves sort of thing.

Or maybe neither of these is appropriate. What do you think?

I applied disadvantaged and did not upload an additional document. I think what they are looking for is your first option, what you have done since graduation.
