I actually interviewed on 3/6 so I wasn't there for your bunch. Although there was a guy who said something about Fenway Park and went to school in California... Lakers fan too I believe? Was that you and maybe you interviewed on Friday instead??

If so, I was the Saint Louis University girl (I don't remember what I said for my interesting thing). Let me know!! 🙂

Actually, I did interview on Friday, so if that was the 6th, I was there in your group of interviewees. I'm not too good with calendars/dates; it's how I know I would be a good private clinician. The Lakers fan, I do remember him, but that was not me. I've only been to CA twice in my life, to vacation. I actually went to school at Boston University and am from Houston, TX. Yup, I'm Southern, through and through except for the 3.5 years I spent in NYC where I learned to speak (I was 2) which might explain my lack of an accent...anyways, I don't remember you exactly, but I do someone from St. Louis U. I also remember someone saying that they wanted to get back so they could watch the MVC championship. That might have been you, but I think it may have been an M1/2 with whom I spoke...not completely certain about this as I met A LOT of people in Omaha. If you're in that facebook group, I think I can figure out who you are. So, how excited are you???!!!! Haha, I never thought this day would come, but, alas, here it is! I've heard that the best time in med school is from the day you get accepted til day you matriculate so I hope you're enjoying your time right now!! 🙂

Got an email this morning congratulating me on my acceptance!!! Sooooo happy right now as this was my first acceptance (only waitlists before this).

I am still in shock, shed a few tears, called my entire phone book, rechecked the email 9275 times.

I can't believe it and still think I'm dreaming but I'm going to med school!!! 😀 😀 😀

Good luck to everybody else. You can do it!! :xf:

Congrats CountyFairGirl! Seeing others happy makes me happy 🙂

texan4life....and anyone else i guess
I'm a current M2, and congrats to all who have been accepted! I love my school.

To address your question about east coast residencies
-our match list placed soon-to-be grads in 34 states
-going to creighton DOES NOT limit your choice of residencies, you can go anywhere you want to. why don't you see a lot of east coast matches? well, there are a few on there, but the MAIN reason is that we don't have a HUGE east coast population at our school. Most of our students are midwest/west kids who either want to stay here or go back to the west (such as myself)

that's all i really got for ya. any questions, let me know.

Spospo,

Thank you for your response. Your comments do put me at ease, and, to be honest, I have to say that yours was the answer I was expecting to receive...that many of the students are from the Midwest and prefer to stay there. Don't get me wrong...It seems like many of the M4's did place into great residencies. I mean, (and, given my chosen career path, pardon my insensitivity or hypocrisy for using this figure of speech, but...) I would [almost] kill to match into some of the programs Creighton students matched into, like Stanford or Mayo or Scott & White. Also, those concerns I had were really future ones I would have to address if I came off a wait-list at some of the other schools I applied to. If this does happen, I would be choosing between Creighton and a MEDICAL education that would be cheaper than my UNDERGRADUATE education...including COA. At that point, I would have to decide if the extra 20-30 G's/year is worth it. And, what I'm getting from you is that the extra money might actually be worth it...which is something I like hearing.

I absolutely loved the school and its attitude as well as the students there, and I do not doubt for a second that the education I would receive at Creighton will be top-notch. So for now, I am extremely excited to be a part of Creighton and cannot wait to join the Class of 2013 in the fall! Again, thank you so much for alleviating some of my concerns; I hope to see you and the rest of the students in Omaha! 🙂
Good luck on your Step I [if you're taking it soon]!!!:luck:

Has anyone been able to get in touch with Dr. Nipper via email, or is calling him during the open office period on Thursdays the only way to ask him about getting accepted from the alternate list?

I wouldn't consider my upbringing or location within the "disadvantaged" category, but I still think that I could use financial support and that I will bring diversity to the Creighton community...
Does this mean I can apply for the Diversity Scholarship?

i didn't go through Dr. Nipper, I emailed Garland Jarmon (director of admissions) and they told me exactly what I needed to work on to improve my chances of getting of the alternate list, in my case they thought I needed more physician shadowing.

I just received an email today saying my deposit and seat reservation have been processed! And I got my FAFSA in yesterday...now I just need to get the background check, get my immunization record in order, find a place to live, and figure out a plan to finance the whole thing, and I'm all set! I'm actually pretty excited about all this 😀

Hey, does anyone know if Creighton is having a second-look day? I can't remember if I received an e-mail or letter about this....

Congrats to all who have been accepted, and best of luck to those of you who are still waiting!

I haven't heard of a second-look day for Creighton, so I'm not sure, but I guess they don't have one.

However, they are very accommodating if you decide to visit in your own time. A friend of mine visited a while ago and was given a personal tour of Omaha by Dr. Nipper himself!

The girls that hosted me said that there would be one!

Hi, I am applying to Creighton this 2010 cycle, and I was hoping you guys could help with a question that I have:

Pre-Health Committee (Option A):
If your institution has a Pre-Health Committee, please ask the pre-medical advisor to submit a "Committee Letter" of recommendation on your behalf. This letter will fulfill your letter of recommendation requirements.
If your institution submits a packet of individual letters on your behalf, the packet is considered equivalent to a "Committee Letter," and will fulfill your letter of recommendation requirement.
Three Letters of Recommendation (Option B):
If your institution does not have a Pre-Health Committee, please have three letters of recommendation from faculty submitted on your behalf. We ask that two of the letters be submitted by science** faculty and one from a non-science professor. Recommenders are asked to disclose in which of their course(s) you were enrolled.
Non-Traditional Applicants:
If you have been away from university studies for three or more years please have three letters of recommendation sent from persons familiar with your recent scientific work or study experience.

It has been more than 3 years since I graduated from my undergrad, but I have recently done graduate level studies. Plus, my undergrad is willing to do a premedical committee letter (option A) for me. So, is my undergrad committee letter, which includes letters from my recent work supervisor, undergrad professor, and graduate professor, enough for me?

Thank you!

Does Creighton require a physical exam before classes begin? If so, can someone send me the link to the form that your physician must complete? Like a physical form or a medical history Questionnaire? I have a Dr appt coming up and may as well get this done and over with while I am there. Thanks in advance for any help with this!

I am withdrawing my acceptance today and wish all of you on the waiting list good luck!!!!

Has anyone been given any sort of scholarship to Creighton for writing that essay about being disadvantaged or have they not sent them out yet?

If I get a scholarship I may end up going...but if I don't then I will likely withdraw my application. I hope I find out before May 15th so I can make an informed decision.

I wrote that essay and haven't received any scholarship yet. I really hope I find out before May 15th, as well. Without the scholarship, I'm definitely withdrawing.

Has anyone been accepted from the alternate list yet? I am looking forward to seeing some movement start!

I don't think it'll happen until after the 15th. If I remember right, they send out nearly twice as many acceptances as there are positions available. A ton of people have to start dropping off the accepted list before they hit the alternate pile.

With that said, I'm with you and am also eager to start seeing some movement. I non-medical volunteered my ass off because they noted that as a weakness. Everyting we've done will all be worth it if we get in though!

Same here, I've been volunteering like no other and I sent them an update/interest letter today! Keep your fingers crossed, I know this will happen for us.

No kidding. I took 23 pure science credits of MS1&2 level coursework this quarter (not semester!) at my SMP and hope to maintain my 4.0 since they noted my grades last fall as my major weakness. Would really suck not to get in after all that work, but I guess anything that helps us later for medschool and our future careers is a good thing.

Did I hear them correctly during interview day when Garland said that they only took 30 people off the waitlist last year?! Those odds are very good considering Creighton waitlists about 50% of those who interview.

When I found out I was waitlisted I called admissions and spoke to Mr. Jarmon about it for a few minutes. He told me how many were taken off in the past three years: 30 in 2008, 56 in 2007, and 100 in 2006. He said that the 30 was kind of a fluke in his opinion because there was not much waitlist movement across the country. Plus, given the state of the economy, I am willing to bet that a lot more students will opt to pay less tuition $$ go to their state school, if offered the chance. Hopefully this will be good news for us! :luck::luck:🙂

i was told by the admissions receptionist that actual waitlist movement probably wouldn't happen until the end of may, and possibly might have to wait until early june (since admissions committee doesn't meet until after may 15th to make decisions).

Only 30?! That is scary.

Could someone please PM me Mr. Jarmon's email address? I'm at work and I want to send him my update today but I left the interview day folder at home, which contains his card.

Thanks!

Edit: Never mind. Found it on their website. Thanks anyways!

Just got a letter from Creighton awarding me a $15,000/year Diversity Scholarship. Makes Creighton quite a bit more appealing...not sure what I'm going to do now!

seriously... its seems like money is going to be playing out a big role in the decision process... and rightfully so with the way the economy is right now... and here is Creighton with already one of the highest tuition bills in the nation not giving out scholarship money... unless you consider loans to be money... come on Creighton!! And then I hear this last year they have actually increased there tuition another 3000 dollars with a possibility of being up to 4 or 5 next year.... what is that??? 🙁

It would be one thing if Creighton was one of the top ranked schools but they are not even in the top 50 and most likely not even in Top 75 for that matter... and then you have UNMC a mile down the road that is not only climbing the rankings every year but getting recongnized nationally as one of the greatest up and coming schools in the nation... oh and there tuition is half of what Creightons is... come on Creighton what are you thinking😕

Tell me what exactly are we paying for ... maybe its the fact that the hospital is struggling so much ... I found out from some physicians at the hospital that they have lost a ton of money which has only been multiplied with the state the economy is in... 😱

Its probably where all the scholarship money has gone too... not to mention donations for scholarships are way down because of the economy... and lets be honest people are not going to be donating to a place that seems to be getting there but kicked by the school just down the road... so dont expect to get much when it comes to money is what I have gathered...

its definitly got me thinking... i mean with the state things are at... how do you want to take on a burden like that... and with few scholarship dollars in the bank ... and increasing tuition... i feel like a struggle is eminent... what are you guys all thinking out there??? are you having doubts as I am... any thoughts??

(oh ps ... i do realize that rankings are not everything... however, when it comes to how schools are perceived and residencies... how do you not think that will have a impact??)

I just got an e-mail from Creighton requesting me to fill out another alternate response forms. If you indicate that you would like to remain on the alternate list, you can say that you would be available to accept a position in the class up until the date of matriculation, or you can enter your own date. If you enter a date other than the date of matriculation, will this make a difference in their decision? I'm wondering if they would put of accepting someone until later in the summer if they indicated they were avaiable to take a position up until the last day, versus someone who claims that they would only be avaiable till, say, mid summer. Thoughts???

I think it is in your best interest to be honest. Everyone's application is different. Good luck.

Withdrew my acceptance today. Good luck to everyone on the WL and hopefully someone on SDN gets my scholarship money! 🙂

Just withdrew as well. I loved Creighton but just couldn't get past that price tag. Good luck to everyone waiting to hear!

Honesty is best...for me, I absolutely can't accept after June as I leave the country until a few days before classes start. I need to know what state I will be living in before we leave the country. I hold an acceptance at another school, but if I had nowhere else to go, I would wait as long as possible. For me, if I dont get in to Creighton before we leave, I need to prepare to attend the other school. Moving states takes some time. Everyone is different and I dont think one answer has an advantage over the other per se. Regardless, they have an order they know they will accept people in. You just have to hope for the best. 😀

I definitely understand where you are coming from. Cost of tuition at some schools is outrageous. Creighton is a great school- dont get me wrong. But, Creighton is also in a position to take many students who do not get in to their state schools and are willing to pay butt loads of $$ to be an MD. Creighton will never have problems filling their class, regardless of whether tuition rises 5k a year or not. I think its unfortunate that some schools take advantage of this situation and charge their student much more than the avg cost of tuition, but you just have to hope that it all evens out in the end.

Huh? Mine never updated. It just reads that the application deadline has expired.

iirc, they sent me an e-mail telling me to look at my status page. but i tried to look at it again just after posting that and it was gone. they all start to run together when youre waiting for those acceptances.
