I was getting a little outraged about the paragraphs previous to this one, but this paragraph just made me do a mental double take...

When you have occasion to walk through the hospital, be careful to do so professionally. There will be times when you feel exuberant, especially when you meet friends whom you have not seen for some time: keep the meeting professional and the volume low. Sick people and their families may feel misunderstood or rejected when health care providers act in a boisterous or playful manner.

This seems like a hoax and a joke that someone would post on here, not an actual schools student handbook. Are they serious...?!?

😆That's hilarious - good find! In all honesty, they must have been having problems with this, which is why they included it in their handbook. I know of some students who would need to be careful about this. There was this one girl that was in a lot of my classes, and her nickname was "the mouth." She'd probably want to pay special attention to this...

How important is the religious factor?

How important is the religious factor?

It's important in a sense that the Jesuit tradition of curas personalis suggests taking care of the whole person. Seriously though, we were told during our interview that while Georgetown encourages its students to be religious, we are supposed to do it on our own time. Thus, I definitely wouldn't overdue it with the religious stuff in your essays, but you still want to address the nature of their mission.

Thanks a lot StangsForLife. That makes sense.

Just so people know, they are sending notifications of completed apps now. I submitted yesterday, and I got an email this morning (I had read something on the last page wondering if they had received LORs and such, so I thought I would put this out there).

Can anyone tell me where to find info on their website? I found their mission statement and whatnot, but overall I've found the website very hard to navigate and without the info that most other schools include like clear lists of all sorts of programs you can get involved with. Links would be appreciated. Thanks!

Half of the time their links don't even work for me. I'm always sent to the "not found" page...I currently can't even access the secondary login page, is anyone else having problems?

can i phrase the cura personalis, the cura personalis mentality in one sentence? this is the sentence.

"In a way, each time I escorted a patient, I needed to use the cura personalis mentality. Each patient needed individualized care to be properly comforted."

Is this appropriate use of the phrase? If not I can rephrase. Thanks.

I'm not sure if that's totally correct. Cura personalis is about treating the whole person, not using individualized care, per say. Treating the whole person is about treating the physical as well as the emotional as well as the behavioral, etc.

Thanks for the response. Awesome... I emphasized treating not just the symptoms of each patient, but the emotional side in most of my essay. My question, though, was about my grammar. Is it appropriate to use the phrase "cura personalis mentality"?

p.s. - wiki says cura personalis is about individualized care, in case anyone wants to edit it. I don't know much about it, obviously.

bump for the question: Is it ok to phrase a sentence with "cura personalis mentality" as part of the sentence?

can someone tell me a little more about their curriculum? the website isn't that informative. i know they've made a lot of changes this past year, but I really can't seem to get an idea of what the curriculum is like. thanks.

has anyone gotten an email saying they were complete?

i got one last week

what does it say on your online status check.

Mine only shows that my secondary has been submitted, it doesn't even have a row for letters of rec.

mine either. it just has secondary certified and fee paid .so...not sure about LORS....sorry

Still havent gotten this secondary after being complete since 7/16....... Are they severely backlogged or something?

I was wondering that too. They don't screen do they??? I didn't think they did, and I was surprised that I haven't gotten one from here yet.

Don't. It sounds awkward. If you must, then go ahead, but there are better ways to do this.

e.g.
"I feel like I already understand cura personalis. This mentality..."

I had my AMCAS verified since 7/18 and haven't gotten a secondary either. I'm getting worried

Got an e-mail today saying my app is complete. 🙂 So glad that AMCAS LOE thing only took 3 days to process. Hopefully I hear from them soon.

Has anyone withdrawn from Georgetown pre-secondary? I received my secondary several weeks ago but after it getting to the bottom pile I've decided not to bother with it. Plus, the fee is absolutely ridiculous and they consider the mos recent MCAT (worse for me). I can't seem to find the "withdraw" button. Has anyone figured it out?

how long did it take for everyone's LORs to arrive from AMCAS? My letters have been marked, but I'm still not complete at any of the schools that are participating in the stupid AMCAS letter service!

GT is pretty quick getting the letters... 1-3 business days seems to be the norm. Did you designate on AMCAS which letters were supposed to go to GT?

A lot of web-based applications have this issue because the code that handles them is designed to ignore hard returns. There's no fix for this--sorry!

ar2388: Received 7/3; Submitted 7/12; Complete 8/6

I called up to book my interview, does anyone know if Georgetown will later send us an email confirming the date?

yay, finally complete!!

They havent sent me a confirmation. Maybe they will in the next month and a half though.

Okay - when are you interviewing Icarus?

can someone post the secondary application link? I've been varified by AMCAS in med july and still haven't received a secondary invite. I thought I'd just start working on it first. THANKS!

This is a mighty stupid question, but submitting is equivalent to certifying, right?

well technically you have to certify your application, meaning you are providing your electronic signature, before you submit your application.

as for the essay, i wrote 4990 characters. i tried going for both quality and quantity just be/c i wanted them to know that I really did my research about their school. i commented on all their student resources and on the jesuit background (even though i'm muslim) and how it would help me and stuff like that. now all i need is to get my new MCAT scores from July 18th, hopefully they are much higher than my initial score. good luck everyone!

Wait, what?

I cannot find a place to submit. I can only certify. How do you submit, then?

certifying and submitting are a couple. once you certify (i.e. electronically sign), your application will then become submitted. doing one will lead to the other. you don't have to worry, but just make sure that your application is absolutely ready to be submitted when you start to certify it because i don't think you can go back after you certify it...
i'm always scared i'll accidently certify a blank application.
