I would bet good money they sent it to everyone. If they only sent it to those they want to interview, then the students who didn't receive the mail but found out otherwise would know they're out of the running. Thus everyone who received the mail would gain a sense of confidence.

Of course, that runs contrary to the whole admissions process. It's not about making people feel confident, it's about sowing confusion and self-loathing.

For some reason I love it...😕

I am complete since mid August and I did not receive this email

i think everyone got it ! i thought it was an interview invite . ugh

hmm just saw your post medseek, and now i am confused . rush is a very mysterious school - they are pretty hard to get a hold of (you can't call) and they have sent similar emails of confusion in the past, such as asking about your affiliations with the hospital (not sure if they sent this out this year).

if anyone figures this one out , keep us updated !

Complete 9/19/08 and did not get this email

I just read that email this morning. Did everyone get it or do you think it is a sort of pool for possible interviews?? Very strange.

you kind of wonder though.. why wouldnt they just send out interview invites ?

Actually, I think I've figured it out (as much as I enjoyed writing my above response).

It's after 10/15, and lots of elite students are getting accepted already. Since Rush is not a particularly high ranking medical school, they're worried that one of the elites might have gotten in somewhere before they had a chance to interview at Rush. Of course, it's hard to tell on paper exactly who is an elite student, which is why we all got the e-mail.

Basically the e-mail says, "Just wait a stinking minute before you accept that offer at Harvard, and check us out!"

I'll be sure to let Harvard know that I'm waiting on Rush.😉
I agree with this.

It is strange that some people didn't receive the email though...I'll take it as a good sign but won't get my hopes up 🙄

no, i got the email too yesterday and i scheduled my interview a couple weeks ago

I was complete in mid-August, and I got the email as well...

I also received it. I want to know whats up!!

I just got it too. I'm sad I got it later than everyone else. haha

yeah, they totally scared me with that one. At first i thought it was a rejection (that's what i'm used to by this point *sigh*) but then i got excited and thought it was an interview and then i got disappointed when it was just an informational email. i hope they start interviewing soon!

I thought some people received interviews?

yeah strange. I just received the email this morning.

have people been getting interview invites from rush ?

have people been getting interview invites from rush ?

yeah they have, look at the interview invite thread, it seems that a couple people have gotten it

I applied last year, but I just wanted to give some perspective on Rush's application process. I'm an instate applicant and thought I had a decent application/stats (although maybe they're just not non-trad friendly? I have heard it's a rather young class). Not only did I not receive an interview from Rush, but I never even received a rejection. Ever. Never heard back post-secondary. I spoke to a couple of friends who applied the year before me who had gotten into Loyola, and they also NEVER heard back from Rush. In any way. I also got an interview and acceptance to Loyola, so I have a rather silly theory. I think that Rush decides that there's a Loyola type of person and a Rush type of person (or perhaps (gasp) there's some kind of collusion between the two schools, like picking teammates for kickball), and that for some reason, they rarely overlap. True, I have heard of a couple of people who received invites to both Rush and Loyola, but the vast majority I know got invites to one or the other. Again, this is all pure conjecture, but I thought it might help for some of you who end up frustrated by Rush's silence. Don't take it to mean that your application is doomed. They're just..........Rush. And not very communicative.

I did try to call Rush last year, and failed. I also emailed them and asked if I could send or email a letter of interest. They said NO. 🙄

Anyway, good luck all! :luck:

It's funny you say that Phoenix.

I was friends with 2 Rush matriculants and 1 Loyola matriculant who were in the same community service org as I was.

The 2 Rush matriculants had competitive stats for both Loyola and Rush, and they really seemed like Loyola material to me, lots of volunteering, service, great personality etc (not to say that Rush doesn't look for those things). We are also from Loyola undergrad, so they all got a committee letter as well.

But when those 2 went to Rush, I was like...what just happened. I never straight up asked them why they went to Rush, but it seemed like Loyola was their first choice and therefore they must not have gotten in (unlikely with their stats, 29-32 mcat 3.7+ gpas two years ago and again very srevice orientated)..or they chose to not go to Loyola for some..odd reason..It's been racking my brain for a while now.

AND THEN, the matriculant to Loyola...Extremely intelligent guy, still did service with us and what not, but in retrospect I see him as more of a Rush guy...but he got into Loyola and went to Loyola..Again, never asked him directly where he got into and why he chose Loyola..

So....either your theory is correct and I just have the wrong impression of what it means to be Loyola and Rush material..or I dunno? just strange mysterious admissions magic going on? Lol

Oh and I just received the email in questtion this morning, which is why I was checking this thread to try to make sense of it.

My theory? They send it to all complete applicants to show some sign that they are alive to try to combat the cold impression you get with their late late email resposes and inability to reach them by phone.

I was soo excited when I saw it though...now I just want to cry.

I got an e-mail from Rush at 4 AM on Saturday morning....sounds almost like emergency 🙂 who is sending these e-mails out? I'm pretty sure it's a computer system, but why then people have been getting them on different dates at different times... mystery 🙂

rush is a bizarre school seriously. of the peole I know who go there this year I can't figure out what they look for as candidates. it's also bizarre they don't send out rejection letters or anything. I don't get it.

but I would go there in a heartbeat

It's quite the coincidence that you say this. Let me give you some background:

I am from Illinois and have decent stats (30 + 3.6). I did some volunteering at one of the Rush affiliates, and this came up a bit in my AMCAS. I tried as much as possible to leave out the name, but eventually it does have to come up.

When I was applying, I sent to both Rush and Loyola. I had my applications in fairly early (early August for Rush, mid-September for Loyola cause they came out so late). About a month later, I got an interview invite from Rush, but nothing from Loyola.

I never got any emails or calls from Loyola, so after a month of being complete,I called Loyola early last week to ask them what was taking so long, and they said that I was placed on hold. I was not able to get any kind of explanation as to why.

It seemed strange to me that I would get an interview from Rush but not even hear from Loyola, and I assumed that it had to do with Rush being in my application. However, I had already gotten an invite from CMS, and just days later UIC. This really made me think that there was something going on with Loyola and Rush specifically. It seems that I am not the only one who thinks that the two schools are competing with each other. And this makes sense. Over the years, both schools probably saw plenty of applicants who applied to both schools and were accepted to both. They have seen the trends and kinds of personalities that go to one or the other (albeit now without interviews). It makes perfect sense for the schools not to to put time and effort into a student when history says they wouldn't go to the school anyway.

I think that my case is rare because of my ties to Rush, but it definitely seems like the two schools have decided that they are in direct competition for the same students, and are acting accordingly. I would have be happy to go to either school, as they are both excellent, but it seems a bit unfair to students that they are typecast in this way.

I may end up withdrawing from Rush pre-interview if I get an acceptance from my second choice school within the next few weeks.

hey everyone.

wtf.... i am getting paranoid with all this talk....

complete since 9/24, no "teaser" email yet...

it looks like they are sending them out according to when you were complete. i was complete in mid august and was in the first batch of people to receive the elusive "email". you'll probably get yours eventually !

I was complete on 9/19 and got the "teaser" e-mail this morning (10/29).

Complete 9/19 and just got the "teaser" email this morning...ugh really got my hopes up 🙁

I got an interview from Rush a couple weeks ago and scheduled it for a week from today, 11/5. I also got that strange email, and I wrote it off as an error (or something to keep Rush fresh in everyone's minds!)

Has anyone had an interview already and can tell me what to expect for this year?

What is this email that people are talking about? I did not get it.

I was complete 10/8 and got an interview invite this morning.

Hey guys!
I have an interview at rush for mid-Nov and while I was initially thrilled now I'm getting really nervous. I got a 28 and then a 27 on my MCAT and my cumulative GPA is around a 3.6. I'm not a bad student, my non science GPA is a 3.8, so it's mainly just my non-biological sciences which tear me down (aka physics). Anyway, I'm not trying to over analyze a good thing but when I was applying people told me I had no chance...so I'm suspicious now, do they give interviews to a lot of in-state people? Or are they just baffled I applied? Plus, does this interview mean I have a good chance at standing up against their "above 10 average MCAT score" applicant?

Hey Ayushi- I know the feeling, I also got a 28 on my MCAT and have been over analyzing EVERYTHING. Despite mostly silence from schools I just received an invite at Rush (OOS) and I interviewed at Pitt last month. One thing that people keep telling me, and I try to remember: They know your scores, if numbers alone would keep you out they wouldn't have invited you to interview.

Knock 'em dead! :luck:

Did anyone respond to the teaser email? I'm considering just sending a three-line thank you and a "I hope you will consider me further" message.

Can't hurt, right?

does anyone know if RUsh accepts LOInterests?

have you interviewed yet? if you send additional info, they don't look at it, but do add it to your file.

that's so weird .. why wouldn't they look at it and just throw it in your file ? if they're not going to look at it, why don't they throw it out ?

they said if youre granted an interview you can bring it to the interviewer's attention.

ohh ! thanks for the info -- so i guess any updates don't affect your chances of getting an interview, but possibly your chances of being accepted post interview !

yea exactly... i wish i had known that before i sent it in but oh well.

I got it.

My gut reaction:

You're the dorky guy in high school, but you have a cute friend who likes you in a platonic way. You want to go to the prom with her, but you don't have enough courage to ask her in person so you leave a letter in her locker expressing your true feelings for her. Meanwhile, she doesn't really like you that way, but she wants to not hurt your feelings to leave options open for the future. So she passes you a note during study hall expressing how much she likes you, what a great person you are, basically anything but saying, "Yes, I'll go to the prom with you."

I'm feeling like the dorky guy getting that note.

haha good one

I just read that email this morning. Did everyone get it or do you think it is a sort of pool for possible interviews?? Very strange.

i feel everyone got it

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody had been invited for an interview recently? I have heard Rush is a slow school but I have been complete since a few days after their secondary was released...

I know... this process is long and I need to be patient but I thought it couldn't hurt to ask if anyone knew when the next round of invites might come or if it would be worthwhile for me to send them an email (since they don't have a phone number)

Thanks so much!

any suggestion about whether or not calling to check statuses? they already seem slow and i don't want to piss them off...
