I haven't gotten a secondary yet (or a rejection, for that matter...). They've had my AMCAS since early July.

lets hear from the people that interviewed today!! how did it go?

i'll bite.

i actually interviewed a few weeks ago (UCI's first interview date).

The school went out of their way to make you feel comfortable. It did help that I went to UCI and worked there for a few years, so I knew my way around, lowering my stress level a ton. Nevertheless, the student interview was very casual and the faculty interview was very straightforward - no crazy "fix the health care system in 5 minutes" questions. It seemed more like they just wanted to get to know you better and put a face behind the application.

The interview day was a bit longer than I'd have preferred, but much of this was spent doing housing/finaid/meet 2nd years, all of which I'd already done while working/studying at UCI. Probably useful information for non-UCI folks.

I usually hate these pointless questions that send a run on the status check, but I'll indulge my hypocrisy:

Do all of you have a Student ID # on your status page under your AMCAS ID #? I never noticed this and thought it was a bit weird to be given a student id before actually enrolling or even being offered an interview.

I do not have a student ID #, but I haven't been granted a secondary yet.

Heh, sent me running...

I never noticed it, but yup. It's there. I think it's probably due to how UCI has their database system set up. They probably need a unique identifier for our online files and our AMCAS ID# is probably assumed by someone else and it's easier for them to add to their SID count.

Or that could be complete BS. Who knows 😛

Ya, I just got a student id today, too... but they haven't even offered me a secondary yet! Maybe this is good news. I really, really hope so.

You are probably right--I got my student ID after I recieved an invitation to fill out their secondary.

Anyone hear any post-sec. news lately? I've been complete since 9/05, and I was wondering if anyone complete around, or before, then could give me an idea of what to expect.

I got an interview invite via the status page today. I assume an e-mail is forthcoming. Obsessively checking your status page (well, 1x per day) does pay off!

Well darn, you were complete after me and you have an interview. I guess I know what that means for me 🙁

haha yeah, I'm screwed 😛

No, not necessarily. I called them today (I've been complete there a looooong time), and she said that they stop sending out secondaries in December. If your file is still under review, then it's still under review. I'm just gonna chill till Christmas on this. 😀

Denied an interview via status page. Oh well, I got another interview today (at another socal school) to make up for it!! 😀

What is going on? They may just reject me, so I don't keep hoping.

Dang, your stats are way above average for accepted students at this school.

I kind of transferred out of UCI to go to UCLA, so in essence I have already rejected them once...

Wow, I'm shocked monkey dude, you are a solid applicant. But hey, you DID get an interview at UCLA, good luck by the way.

an eye for an eye, monkey! 😛
True, very true...

That is also true. Oh well, I guess I have to settle for the UCLA interview🙄.
Thanks, and I hope it goes well, but I feel like I am getting sick, and that would not be good...

*shrug* Don't worry monkey, I have no idea what Irvine is looking for in this process or if they're throwing darts at a wall...

Interview denied today. Complete on 8/16.

how do you know? did they email you?

Hmmm...I was complete at the beginning of August, and I'm still "Pending Review." Methinks it's time to start being more pre-med and worry a bit....:scared:

Does anyone know if "decision pending" = hold?? 🙁 got put on hold by ucsd too... no in-state love for me.

When did it change to "Decision pending" for you guys? I am still at "Pending review," so I'm wandering around aimlessly for now    :lock:

I am not sure that this is accurate, but my friend, who has good stats but a verbal under a 10 (but still high total mcat), told me he called to ask why he hadn't received a secondary and the person on the phone said the fast secondaries are sent to people who have a 10 and above in all mcat sections. Everyone else gets put in a long, long list to be reviewed. Sounds scary if they are going to stop hanging out secondaries in December. What do you all think? I have been pending review for a secondary since early July.
No...I got the secondary on the first day and I don't have a 10+ in all the sections.

sorry to hear that Anatidae...if i were you i'd send them a copy of your UCSD acceptance with a note that say "thanks anyway!" Thats kinda mean tho, haha. But for real congrats on UCSD. I am way jealous!

Thats not true. I have two scores below 10 and UCI was one of the first secondaries I received.

At the other end of the spectrum from jgberken and ryserr21, all of my MCAT sections are in double digits, and I haven't received a secondary despite being complete at AMCAS in early July.

No secondary for me so far and in the first batch sent out by AMCAS:scared:

And you have a 40T MCAT? 😕

I'm starting to believe the rumors that UCI refuses to accept students with terrific stats under the presumption that these students would turn down UCI for UCSF, UCLA, or UCSD.

eehhhh idk.....it is a UC school and they can carry their own weight.

If that were true, every Californian with high numbers would get into a UC. And there are a lot of Californians with high numbers.

UCI is definitely looking for something particular about their applicants and even though I might not understand, there still is some method to their seeming madness. They do a pretty good job of filling their class with a fairly small number of interview candidates.

Hmm this is so weird. So for those that said they had below a 10 in a section but still got a secondary was your GPA really high (like above 3.7, I guess is relatively high)? Loon, JBergken, and USerMike?

Well, if you only look at my postbacc (3 years worth) my overall was 3.8 and my BPCM was 3.9, If you include undergrad (10 years ago), both were around 3.2. That might make a difference...

Last time I called and was told they use computer to screen first, then they will review the rest apps by people.
