I had a decision made on 10-23 and got the CBC email immediately. Unfortunately, I have not received anything in the mail as of yet.

I live in central Illinois and I find it very odd that it takes this long for a letter to be sent from Chicago to arrive in central Illinois. Has anyone else had this issue, that is, they haven't received their letters yet but they live relatively close to Chicago?

I wonder if they send out their letters all at once or if they send out a few at a time?

Mine was made on the 24th, and I am anxiously awaiting the packet as well after recieving the CBC on Sunday. Patience is a virtue, I guess🙄.

What is interesting is that lots of out-of-state people have already gotten their packets, but I live in Peoria, so I actually thought that I would have gotten mine yesterday.

You all might have patience, but the anticipation is nerve-racking 🙂. What I am very curious about is if UIC only requests background checks on accepted applicants or if they do both accepted and waitlisted. If they only do accepted, then receiving the CBC is indeed a good sign.

Thanks. Good point! it looks like you need 1 calendar year of non-educational living in Illinois as one factor. I wonder how being married influences the determination, because income from spouse is another factor. All good questions to consider...

Your spouse definitely counts.. If you move there and your spouse works and earns 35K or more and you do the license, bank accounts, voting registration, etc. etc. Your spouse will become a "resident" and then you will too... I actually had an interviewer tell me this as well!

As far as on your own, might be hard to meet their requirements...

My CBC e-mail said that I was conditionally accepted to one of the schools participating in the AMCAS Pilot program. IF your e-mail said that, consider yourself accepted.

They didnt offer interviews at Rockford when I signed up; only at Peoria and Chicago.

You should probably send it to the admissions office. I would make sure to include my AMCAS ID # and my name.

i live near the peoria area and i have heard of several postal workers quitting or being laid off so it might take a while for the mail to come. Hang in there!

You can check out the financial aid website to see about scholarship opportunities, but I didn't get the sense that there were very many... If you are a URM I think you get IS tuition even as an out of stater...

But otherwise I don't think you can establish residency on your own, unless you manage to work and earn 35k the first year you are there, which would obviously be hard to do!

Yes it does take a year from what I understand... However, it still makes a big difference, on the order of 100 thousand dollars!! i actually dont know. like i said in an earlier post- i didnt really get a good vibe from the chicago campus. the students didnt seem happy or have many good things to say about the school or living there in general.

im still waiting to here back from a few other schools and my state school, and i got accepted at michigan state too so im trying to figure things out. there are a lot of crazy factors to consider here.

This was actually addressed in last year's thread... it goes "Application in Process" to "Applicant in Process". "Applicant in Process" means you are being reviewed, but if it changes back to "Application in Process" it means you were reviewed and passed up for now, but they will re-review you a bit further in the cycle. Don't give up hope! At least it's not "A Final Decision Was Made On Your Application" which means you are out of the game. Don't lose hope!

Question for those of you from around the area... If I am accepted my wife and I were thinking of living in one of the western suburbs like Wheaton or Naperville... Is it realistic to be able to get from say, Wheaton to UIC in around an hour on public transit?

Our biggest concern is safety and we enjoy the more suburb feel, what do you guys think?

There are a lot of express trains that run during rush hours from Naperville and Wheaton, so figure about a 30 minute train ride and 15 minute bus ride to campus, and add another 15 for walking, waiting and random delays and you could easily make it in about an hour. However, if you are at the school or hospital late and don't catch the express trains between 4-7pm you could be looking at a one hour+ train ride and a not so safe commute from the campus to union station. I am not sure how hard a 2 hour+ commute would be for med school, but at least you can study on the train.

I'm originally from that area. While I never had to travel downtown or to UIC on a regular basis, I think you'd be pushing it to try it under an hour. The Metra downtown takes 40 minutes from Wheaton, 35 minutes from Naperville. (Check out www.metrarail.com, if you lived in Wheaton, you'd be on the Union Pacific West Line; Naperville would be on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Line.) From Ogilvie (if you're coming from Wheaton) and Union Station (if you're coming from Naperville), you can pick up the UIC Commuter Bus (http://fmweb.fm.uic.edu/Trans/commute2.html). I'd say a better picture of the time it would take would be 80 minutes--but that's just a guess.

Since you're in the Georgetown program, you're probably used to good public transportation with the Metro. Realize that Chicago's public transit is not as good as DC's. (I currently live in the District--so I've had experience with both.) That's just my two cents.

This is right on. The longer your commute and the more transfers, the more your arrival time will vary wildly (especially when the weather gets bad). Trust me, it gets really frustrating! 🙂 I'd suggest investing in a used car or maybe living in a suburb closer to Chicago, near the blue line el train. (UIC has its own stop.)

BambiMD is right, it would take a good 80 minutes from those two towns...I was looking at Downer's Grove, which is a 27 minute train ride and nice town to live in, btw. Might also want to look into Hinsdale, which is even closer to Chicago. Good luck.

ahh congrats bambimd ! i am stilllll applicant in process or progress whatever it is but i am hoping that changes soon i would definitely call UIC though, that seems to work the best from what i have heard

I had a quick question regarding the following requirement:

Candidates must complete three (3) courses in the Behavioral/Social Sciences (for example, psychology, anthropology, or sociology). Two of the three courses must be in the same field of study. Other behavioral or social science courses will be considered to fulfill this requirement.

I was unsure about the underlined portion. Does that mean that two courses need to be consecutive? (i.e. psychology I and psychology II) or just two within the same field (ie two classes in ethics)?

I've emailed them twice but got no response.. and when I called they said I can only talk to the counselors on Thurs - but i work all day and can't call them...

Actually, you need to call and make sure the slot is available. I remember when I called I wanted a particular spot which the website said was available, but when I called, closed spots were open and open spots were closed. Therefore, just call 🙂 Congrats!

I think you'll be reviewed in December. I interviewed on the 20th of November and they were meeting that following Thursday and Friday. We were told that we would be reviewed in the following meeting. Kind of stinks, but I was still thankful to have an interview.

Thanks Hypnix... I am also VERY grateful to have an interview...Its my first so I am kind of nervous because its my number one choice. I have another interview a couple days later at a school that I am not so keen about attending (kind of wish it was in reverse order so I would have some practise first).

I will focus on preparing tho....I believe God knows best
