Hey guys.

I'm glad someone brought up the topic of "Additional Correspondence"".

I interviewed on October 2 and was accepted on October 24. Naturally, i sent in my intent letter and deposit as fast as humanly possible. And then today, one month later, I suddenly notice this Additional Correspondence on my status screen. I thought that I had done something wrong with regards to accepting the admission offer [the excitement and stress of going to medical school can make a person paranoid sometimes]. I'm glad to hear that I am not the only one getting this "Additional Correspondence" thing on our status page because it makes me think that every applicant may get this and not because I did something terribly wrong.

For anyone who has gotten the "Additional Correspondence" letter in the mail, what does it say?

I believe "Additional Correspondence" refers to the acceptance packet. I interviewed 11/12, got the "Final Decision made on 11/20", CBC e-mail 11/21, and now "Additional Correspondence :11/24". I am under the impression any post-inteviewee who is accepted sees this additional field on the status page. You might not remember this far back, but when you first saw that your status page changed to "Final decision made on xx/xx", do you remember if that field popped up out of nowhere within a day? I think as long as you're accepted, you get this, not because you did something wrong.

I'm still waiting to get off work to check my mail... getting so antsy. Hey Greatguy, since you're from Aurora which is close to where I am, did you receive your packet yet?

Wow, you guys have confidence in the USPS. If indeed UIC mailed it today, I would not expect it until tomorrow at the earliest. I am in the same boat - final decision on 11/20, CBC on 11/21, and additional correspondence today. I live in Aurora and even though it seems like mail should be able to travel 35 miles in one day, remember, this is the United States Post Office at work.

Question for you... Do you intend to stay in Aurora next year and commute? What do you think of the commute via metra or car to UIC? Thanks!!

congrats on all your acceptances everyone !!

i, on the other hand, am on week 9 of applicant in process...

Heston, you got your letter already, right? What date is listed on your status page next to "Additional Correspondence"?

11/24/08.

Has anyone received the second background check email???

Well, my faith in USPS was not misplaced! Got my roommate to check the mail on his lunch break and I got in! Praise God! 🙂

Congrats!!

all of this additional correspondence talk 🙂

i have my interview in a week and i was wondering, when you get a final decision made message, does the additional correspondence show up on the first page of the status page....near the information about the applicant/letters???

what should i expect in my interview....its at chicago, monday 12/1/08 in the morn.

congratulations to everyone who has been accepted. i hope a get a good christmas gift like all of you.

I'm pretty sure that it did not pop up until today. My Additional Correspondence date listed is 11/24/08, which is today. However, when you get your acceptance letter in the mail and mail the necessary forms back in to them, the status page shows you when the school received your materials.

For me, they received my intent of acceptance and $100 deposit on 11/4. If Additional Correspondence is indeed an acceptance package, I am curious as to why they waited until 11/24 to list it on my status page.

Got home from work and ran to the mailbox and there was the large packet!!! I'm officially in! Oh boy... this is the best Christmas present ever!!! I need nothing else for Christmas, except maybe a new bag of cotton socks... 👍

ALRIGHT!! Congrats!!! We're gonna be colleagues!!

I got it.. I'm in shock! I feel extremely fortunate, and I cannot wait to get started

The big letter arrived today. I love UIC, but how can I afford the OOS tuition.😴

Hi Guys,
This thread has been very helpful to me in the past week. Thank you all for your input, advice, and feedback.

I got my acceptance letter in the mail today (Monday). It was delivered to my permanent address, which is about 50 miles west of Chicago.

I am glad I can relax now, and just focus on my school work for the remaining semesters. Looking forward to meeting you all in a few months time -- anyone start a facebook group yet?

Good idea! You gonna start it?

Which brings up a good question -- is there any method by which we can establish in-state status? (Maybe not for M1 but for M2,3,4?)

Hey guys I just started a FACEBOOK GROUP. Let's move the discussion over there that way we can start getting to know each other. I'm eager to meet all of you. Thanks for all of the great advice.

Good going 👍 I'll search for the group and join right away.

I actually couldn't find the facebook group. What did you name it?

look up UIC college of medicine class of 2013

Hey, so whats the farthest away from Chicago that people have gotten their letters in the mail?

I know some people from Chicago have posted on here, any OOSers?

Just got back from my interview. UIC is amazing and I was totally surprise at how laid back the interviewers were. Hopefully, Ill get a chance to join you guys! :xf:I'm so exhausted...

I have a question for you all. I really want to go to UIC. It's always been my top choice. I know some really fantastic Doctors from there, including my father.

I recently got an interview from Loyola today. Do you think I should go ahead and do it, despite being set on UIC? I know the tuition difference is pretty remarkable, but this is a big life decision and I don't want it to be based solely on price (then again....in this economy.....).

What would you guys do? I know if I had received an acceptance from UIC before doing my Rosalind Franklin interview, I probably wouldn't have done the RFU interview. However, I feel like RFU and Loyola are on different levels, you know?

Would love to hear input. I asked a doctor here and he said you might as well go and hear what they have to say....

1: I live in a suburb of DC and received my packet today.
2: Go on the interview, maybe you'll come to love Loyola and be happier there or maybe you'll go and love UIC more. More data is always good when making decisions. Don't close doors unless you have to.

Anyone know how long it takes to hear about about campus assignment? Just curious.

I'd say about a week and a day or two. That was the turnaround form me sending mine out and then receiving the campus assignment confirmation letter in my mailbox.

Cool.. and, did they let you know when they received your response stuff? The deadline is pretty tight and I wouldn't wanna miss it

Received the letter on 24th, and the letter was dated on the same day😕

I was able to check on the portal to see if they had received my stuff. I also sent it with a delivery confirmation via USPS to make doubly sure it got there.
But no, they don't send an email or anything like that to say they've received you stuff.

Ok, now you're starting to worry me. I sent my response envelope on Monday via regular mail. Should I worry I wont' get the Chicago campus?

I downloaded the immunization sheet. It has a spot where you write your UNI number or something at the top - it says in parantheses that it's found in the admissions letter. Have no idea what it's talking about. Have you guys looked at that yet?

I also sent out a transcript request for from my school today. Trying to get everything done as soon as possible so i don't have to worry about it.

I think you are ok for Chicago. I think it will fill up during the next round.

I haven't looked at the immunization sheet yet. I would call up the admissions office for the number.

I just got mine in the mail today (1 pm pick up outside of DC...)

You'll be fine. I sent mine out on a Friday (regular mail w/ delivery confirmation attached), but it didn't show on the portal till about Thursday. Once it was on the portal it showed that they physically received it on a Tuesday, so its slow showing up on the portal. It has only been about three days for you.

You should have no problem getting Chicago campus right now. Your campus choice is confirmed without your transcripts and the immunization form. Those two have a deadline of June 15th. So as soon as they receive your deposit and campus selection form, they'll send the confirmation letter to you.

Hope this helped ease your nerves.

It looks like they received my acceptance today (11/26/08). However, the online check status doesn't tell you what campus you got into.

I called them yesterday to find out why we haven't received the Celphi background check email. They said those havent' been sent out yet.

I'll call today to find out what this UNI number is.

Where do you see that they got your acceptance?

I live pretty close to the school so I turned in my acceptance by hand yesterday. My acceptance and deposit now show up as received on the status check website. I called the admissions office today to get an idea as to how "filled up" the sites were getting; just wanted to see if I'll be able to get my top choice of site preference. Unfortunately they are "not allowed to give that information over the phone." So for those of us wondering if we'll get a particular site, I guess we won't know until that letter comes 🙁 But as it has been said several times already on this thread, I think at this point there are plenty of spots open at all the sites.

Someone above mentioned the UIN (University Identification Number). That's just your ID number for the University of Illinois school system. I go to UIC so I have a UIN already. For those of you who are unsure, I'd recommend the obvious step of calling the admissions office.

I called them about the UNI (or is it UIN) number that's requested on the Immunization form today. The woman told me to just leave it blank.

Anyone in CA get the stuff in the mail yet? I dont live there but the address my packet is going to is there and it wasn't in the mail today... Weird!

Side note - did anyone who got the final decision made message and the CBC e-mail get a rejection?

My friend lives in Berkeley and she got the big envelope yesterday. Hope you get it soon.

Dang it! I wish tomorrow wasn't a federal holiday, blast!! Anyone else still waiting?

Question for you... Do you intend to stay in Aurora next year and commute? What do you think of the commute via metra or car to UIC? Thanks!!

Yes I will commute from Aurora. Aurora is the second largest city in IL and the last major suburb of Chicago to the west. Metra is nice and will get you downtown in 40 minutes on an express train, or about 80 minutes if all the stops are made. The major problem with Metra is parking. The lot fills up in Aurora by around 7:00am on weekdays, and there is a 9 year waiting list for a parking permit (you pay 2 dollars a day to park if you do not have a permit). There are remote parking locations with a shuttle, but I have never used them. The ride itself is about $10 round trip, but you can get discounted rates if you buy monthly passes. Also, downtown Aurora is not a nice place, so I would advise not living there, or even better, living in a more eastern suburb to cut down on your commute time.

If you do commute via Metra, your total commute time would breakdown something like this:

1. Aurora to Union Station (Chicago) in 40-80 minutes
2. Walk to Jackson Street El stop (Blue Line) - 10 minutes
3. Wait for El - 5-10 minutes
4. El Ride to campus - 10-15 minutes

If you drive, which I do not advise, it would take about 45-60 minutes on a perfect traffic day. There is unending construction on our toll ways (yes you have to pay to use the interstates in IL), which always slows things down (we are in the midst of year 4 of a lane widening project that I am convinced will never end). Also, the weather from November through April sucks, and we get lots of snow which just snarls traffic. Let me know if this helps and if you have any other questions. Hope to see you in the fall!

I would suggest you take 7 bus to get between UIC and Union. Its a 5 minute walk from School and stops next to union station. I've never commuted (nor would I suggest it, though plenty of people do it and get by fine) but i think that's what I'd do if I had to.

Yeah RFU and Loyola are on different levels. Unless its going to cost you money you can't afford, you should definitely go to the interview and see how it turns out.
