Hey guys. Well I just got the waitlist email from Rochester. The wait is over! At least there is still hope. Hey Lacrossefiend, do you know how the waitlist acceptance offers have looked in the past?

First, don't lose hope! Second, use your letters... i.e. letters of interest/intent, and update letters... but use them wisely! Don't just send out tons of letters... do so when you have something of significance to tell them. PM me if you need more help 🙂

does anyone know how often the committee meets?

aha thanks lacrossefiend. so i guess the rest of us must wait until februaryy

Might be a bit different due to the holidays... I spoke w/ Dean Hansen today and he was saying something about December interviewees possibly hearing the 3rd week of January.

Afraid I might have the worst singing voice ever... so nope, that wasn't me 🙂 But, you might have seen me... I'm around there a lot trying to meet people and I was in there right before they came.

Hi EtherealEyez.. If you don't mind me asking, what has made you so set on Rochester already? Might as well do the facebook, I'm sure others will join.

When i interviewed there I was convinced. It was the only school i interviewed at (got 8 invites, declined 4, went to 4) where I got this vibe where i felt like i would fit in perfectly. EVERYONE was nice, and i had the opportunity to talk to many of the students, because my interview time was the last slot of the day. I sat in on three classes (1 PBL, 1 case based, 1 lecture) so I got a chance to see what the teaching style was actually like. The professor who led the PBL i sat in on actually let us participate, so that was really interesting. The professors seemed like they really wanted to be there, not just because they're getting paid. Also, I clicked more with my fellow interviewees which kinda gave me an idea of who rochester considers. Also, the facilities were extremely nice, and the wealth of opportunities available to students is amazing. I personally want to learn medical spanish and do a summer abroad. (40% of students go abroad and they have a humanities pathway for learning about latino health/language/culture). I also like their mission and their biopsychosocial model, as well as their commitment to community service. I just think Rochester has all the things that I'm personally looking for in a school. 🙂

What are the chances that interviewees get accepted? I just got an interview invite today (after being complete since August...lol) and I'm wondering if I should go...?

I would think your chances are just as good as anyone elses because Rochester interviews until Feb I think. unless they stated they are only interviewing for waitlist, I think you should go. I absolutely loved the school. If its a place your really considering then why not.

actually yea, does anyone have the numbers interviewed and accepted?

IIRC, Pat (Director of Admissions) said something like they received more than 4800 applications this year (don't know whether that number is for AMCAS or for those who completed the secondary); they interview about 630 or so, and (eventually?) give out ~220 acceptance or so for a class of 100. So that's about 1/3 of interviewees get in after pulling people from WL. However, I doubt the acceptance number here because it did not seem that the WL moved that much in the last couple of years? Also, Pat mentioned they will continue interview until the beginning of March.

Have you been accepted anywhere yet? If not, take the interview. Even if you have, I would tell you to take the interview since you'd be missing out on a great school (yes, I'm biased 😉)!

I definitely loved U. Rochester. Everyone was so friendly...Prof. Naumberg and the students were really cool....hahahahaha and I like the name of where the majority of med students live..."White Coat Ghetto."

I really hope I hear good news from

When did you interview?

how long have they been taking to get a response to people post interview?

A month, cause the committee meets once a month. I interviewed the first week of November and they said we would know end of December but because of the holidays, I heard back first week of Jan by phone call and then email.

I got the good call from Dean Hansen today. Woo Hoo! I'll be attending. It was my top choice from the beginning. Good luck to everyone else.

Congrats! When did you interview?

Congrats! I recently got an invite and was wondering if those who have already been there, or are currently at school there, can highlight the things that they liked about it the most.

as for highlights, everyone says it, but the biopsychosocial curriculum. it really is awesome. that and it seems like you get LOTS of clinical experience your first two years and wherever I go, I don't want to forget why I am studying medicine. finally, you won't find a person unwilling to talk for a bit about the school and why you should attend.

Congrats on the invite! So I really need to be studying for an upcoming test, so I will tell you my very favorite thing about Rochester: the people! I love all of my classmates... they are super supportive and so fun to be around (and trust me, you will see a TON of your classmates, so you need to enjoy them!). The faculty and staff is wonderful... very caring and happy people! The upperclassmen are great and willing to help you however they can.

I remember on my interview day that I came away thinking everyone was so happy to be there and that was where I wanted to be. I needed to be in an environment that was as supportive as it is here because school is obviously stressful. It helps to know that I have people around me that care about me.

As for other things, I think I've had a sprinkling of my thoughts throughout this thread that you can look at... or just ask if you have other questions. Let me know when you're coming to Rochester so I can be sure to say hi!

Congrats to everyone! Yay fellow classmates!

Be sure to post in the allopathic class thread!

Lacrossefiend, thanks for all your helpful posts on the rochester threads:claps:

i just interviewed this past week and they said up to 8 weeks for a decision, were they telling that to all of you who heard in only 4 weeks?

Yeah, I think they tell that to everyone just in case. Some people who interviewed in November waited longer because of the holidays, but you can probably expect a month as well. I think the way they do it is they meet once a month to make all decisions on people who interviewed the previous month. So this week is probably when all Dec. interviewees got their decisions.

Yeah, i think it just depends when you interview, because I interviewed Nov 6th but they said the meeting for november had already happened so we would have to wait till the december meeting so i ended up waiting a little over 8 weeks as well because of the holidays.

Yeah they told us 8 weeks but I'm hoping for around a month as soon as they meet in February.

Thanks for the information Lacrosse!
