search for "university of rochester school of medicine class of 2013"
Does anyone happen to know how much time Rochester provides for students to take their Step 1?
Is Rochester known for not "teaching to the test?"
I'd also have to disagree with lacrossefiend, Year 2 Case Seminars doesn't really help you prepare for step 1. Although it may be changing a bit since I took it, it is nothing like the review courses a lot of schools offer at the end of 2nd year, and really isn't a help for step 1 studying.
I was just going based on what some current 2nd years were saying since I obviously haven't taken the course myself... not that they have either. I didn't mean it was a review course like some other schools have, just topics that may pop up.
So whatever you say works!
Hey, I was just at rochester and I'd have to agree with those two about not teaching to the test. The dean straight up said that to us.
I really liked the school but I got grilled by my second interviewer. Darn ethical questions destroyed me so I don't think I'll be accepted! Would a letter of interest help?
Have any current students heard about this computerized examination system? What do you guys think?
Just got an email about the second look weekend. Is anybody planning on going to this? Did any of you M1s/M2s browsing this thread go? It sounds pretty cool, I'm thinking i'll be there...

I just got the phone call this morning! My first acceptance, and I am incredibly relieved. I only interviewed two weeks ago (Jan 24), so I was very pleasantly surprised to hear. Yay! The months and months of waiting to know if I can be a doctor are over!!!!
Congrats! Is this necessarily bad news that I interviewed Jan 5th and still haven't heard? Do those waitlisted or rejected usually hear around the same time? Thanks for any info..
i wouldn't think so, cause the adcom reviews everyone for that month (or previous month). when i interviewed, it was nov 6 but the adcom had just had their meeting, so our interviews got reviewed in the december bunch. so, nov 6 (and on) got decisions the same time december interviewees got theres.
I was browsing the URSMD website when I came cross the latest edition of the Dean's Newsletter:
http://www.urmc.rochester.edu/smd/newsletter/article.cfm?id=141
This particular edition is about looking ahead to the next several months with regards to clinical affairs and education. I found an excerpt which I found interesting as a prospective student -
Looking Forward
Applicants to the medical school for entry in August of 2009 have remained stable while applications nationally are down slightly—testimony of the strength of our program. 2009 will see the school finalize the specifics of the fine tuning of the curriculum with further progress and finalization on the Domains of Excellence initiative. In response to student feedback and Task Force recommendations, the Surgery Clerkship will increase from 5 to 6 weeks beginning in July of 2009 in addition to two weeks of required sub-specialty surgery before graduation. In August of 2009, we will roll-out our new computerized examination system. We will also continue to look for ways to incorporate technology in teaching and hope to create interdisciplinary experiences for students. Advisory Deans and faculty will continue to provide students with excellent career counseling, assisting them in securing the best residency positions to meet their needs. We will also encourage students wishing to take a year out for research through the Academic Research Track and other prestigious, competitive funding opportunities.

Wait listed today by e-mail 🙁. You think they would give a Rochester resident the benefit of a doubt. Anyone know the earliest they start pulling off the wait list?
That's too bad, man. From all your posting on this forum, I can tell you have a genuine desire to go there. I'm actually pretty surprised they didn't accept you with your numbers and your rochester connection. I'd be even more surprised though if you didn't eventually get in off the waitlist, so don't give up 👍Wait listed today by e-mail 🙁. Who can I expect to see at second look??
Me! And to add to that question, who all opted to stay with a student host?

Most everyone so far.
