And so the waiting begins...
 
The declaration date for UT is on May 15th (or around that date), so I would assume the majority of the wait-list acceptances will be sent out on that date or before. I was just wondering if anyone had any info on how deep they are into the wait-list at this point?

I have heard from Nelson that it is pretty consistent over the last 5 years also. What I am wondering though is do they only send out 60-65 offers to the first 60-65 on the wait-list? Or does that number mean that they usually have 60-65 seats that need to be filled from the wait-list and that could require them going 100 people deep in the wait-list? So is it 60-65 offers made to wait-listers or 60-65 seats that need to be filled and who knows how many offers to wait-listers that it will require to fill them?

My understanding is that the wait-list sees heavy movement usually at two times. The first being mid-may near the decleration date and again in mid-june when they get replies from those that where holding out on some better schools wait-list. Also, they probably have not made any movement at all on the wait-list at this point and probably wont until the first few weeks of may.

From my experience, the 60-65 number is the total number of offers made to people on the waitlist, not the total number of spots taken by people from the waitlist. So, if you are in the top quarter this year (~220 people on the list, top quarter would be ~50-60) you would have a decent shot, I would think.
 
Any signs of waitlist movement yet? I know it's still very early, but a guy can dream...heh
 
Hey guys! I just got a call from Nelson Strothers offering me a spot in the class, so the list is moving! They are officially expanding the class by 15 spots, also, so that should help move the list a bit faster. Hopefully, I'll see some of you guys in August!

Just wondering what did they tell you position wise when you called earlier?
 
I got that wonderful call this morning as well!! I was weeping with joy --I hope Dean Strother was able to decipher a "I'll be there!" out of that!

I was told a few weeks ago that I was in the top 15 of the waitlist. Had they known then that the class would be expanded for sure, they said I would have an acceptance rather than a waitlist. But, that doesn't matter anymore! Yay!

Oh, and congrats lfdrc! See you in August!
 
Congrats guys!! It's nice to know that 15 more spots became available.
 
odd note, BUT I spoke with Nelson just yesterday and he said that he was not sure about the class size increase and was hoping to know more by this week. How did you others hear that it was official?

Nelson told me that they were, indeed, expanding the class. However, this was last week when he called with the aceptance, so things may have changed. My understanding is that it's all up to the state legislature. They aren't the most "on-the-ball" or "with-it" politicians.
 
Nelson sent me an email today to let me know that the class size increase to 165 is official for the 2009 entering class.

I interviewed around December 1st, got a waitlist letter in April, and am now waiting for May 15th to hear something. Is there anyway to find out where on the waitlist you are considering the extra 15 slots that have been added?

Heard many students head to Mud Island to live. Have any of the students coming into UT in August heard of a housing match-up to get roommates? Are there places on Mud Island that are more desireable or are quiet and not party apartments/condos?

There's a housing weekend May 29-30. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it, as I have a family wedding that weekend. So I'm relying on the off campus housing website http://www.utmemoffcampus.com/. Two cats and a dog make finding housing (and a roommate) one final pre-med challenge!

Congrats and I'll be seeing you in August! My complex (Estates at River Pointe) is really quiet but I hear most of the apartment complexes are like that. I've heard the walls are paper-thin in the Riverset apartments but I've not lived there so that's just through word of mouth...
 
where did the accepted students get their id code and password to be able to get information from the UT website? Does that come in your packet in the mail? Could you get this from Diane Harris over the phone?
I am wanting to open some of the links for housing, etc. and need this info to do it!
Anyone who knows the answer... please let me know.

They haven't sent out our information to log into the system yet, but if you want to check out the housing database, you can just create a guest account for that part of the site.

This place is dead. Anyone else still stuck in waitlist purgatory with me?
 
We should take turns and contact them about the wait-list movement periodically like what they did in previous years.
I guess I will start
