first off....to those of you who were accepted today....congrats!

i have a few random questions...if you don't mind me asking...you mentioned you were notified by phone....does the number come up as private? and did they send an email notification as well?

thanks..

yeah, like idleburra said it was a 419 number, and i haven't received an email confirmation yet, but Sandy said i should be receiving the background check information sometime soon, like beginning of next week. all of the other materials like financial aid and scholarship stuff she said would also be sent out at the beginning of next week too.

good luck! i hope you hear good news soon!

Hey, so what is everyone that was just accepted doing about housing??

i am probably going to start looking online and then go down to toledo to check out some apartments at the end of june.

hey depakote, is there any sort of forum for finding potential roommates for first years, or do most people just try to find a roommate for the next year after they get to know people better? thanks for posting that link about housing, i will try to check it out sometime this week.

You can try the Toledo Class of 2013 thread
There are also a couple of facebook groups

I know there will be an orientation website that you should hear about sometime over the summer but that's not my dept. It would have roommate/housing info too, but the above tend to be a little faster.

Any news so for this week? I am trying to hold off for a little while longer on reapplying.... To those without an acceptance, have you submitted AMCAS yet?

Sorry this cycle hasnt gotten you in yet 🙁, from your md app profile, it looks like you are a good candidate and have done a lot of work to get that way. I'm suprised that hasn't paid off. You're still young though, good luck, if not this year, I'm sure it will happen eventually!

Quick question about health insurance--

So if you're not covered by your parents, you have to pay ~$2000 out of your allotted "living expenses money" to cover it?

Gosh, that's like a second car payment.

Gosh, that's like a second car payment.

health insurance is included in your cost of living, your student loans covers it.

Hopefully there is another call this friday then and 3 more of us get in 🙂

Just got a voicemail from Sandy offering me a seat!

Good luck to everyone else!

Awsome, congrats!

Have you accepted guys sent in LOIs?

Yeah, I sent one in the day after the waitlist rankings were emailed out. Just emailed it to Sandy, who said she would put it in my file. Not sure how much of a role they play, but I did it just in case...

I never sent an official LOI to Toledo, but I had sent a series of letters (in the past three months since my interview) to one of my interviewers regarding things I have done to improve the weaknesses of my application and expressing my interest in the school.

I think a letter certainly helps your case; the only school I didn't write some type of letter to placed me in the lowest priority section. Not exactly proof of causality, but something to note nonetheless.

I never sent an LOI after receiving the waitlist notification bc it said specifically not to send any updates, etc to the admissions office... do you think it's too late to write an LOI now?

really? i just reread my email (from Dr. Kleshinski via Sandy) and it does not mention not sending updates at all.

Only a few hours left this week to hear something.... Then another long weekend.... Please call me in the next few hours Toledo, I am dying here.

I received this via snail mail:

"You have been placed on the alternate list as a candidate for the class entering Fall, 2009. If you do not receive an offer of acceptance into the class by virtue of our rolling admissions process, the alternate list will then be prioritized by the end of May 2009.

Alternate candidates who are selected for admission generally do not receive acceptances before June 2009. Therefore it is not necessary to submit post-decision materials to the Office of Admissions.

We request your patience and thank you for your interet in pursuing medical education a the University of Toledo College of Medicine."

The line I typed in bold is what I am referring to.

Eklipse, I received that letter a little while back as well, and as you point out, it was under my impression that LOIs wouldnt do anything at this point because you are already on a ranked list...

But DavyDude... I'm with you sitting here hoping to hear from them today... c'mon Toledo! This waiting thing really does suck! :luck: :xf:

I guess we just have the same interpretation of what that means... I just dont see them getting a letter at this point and being like, oh, you get moved up to the top of the waitlist! I couldnt be wrong though... you never know... it just seems unlikely to me...

Based on acceptances posted on SDN, It seems like waitlist is moving faster for In-States. Whereas in the past years, it was moving faster for out of state students. Need you guys opinion.

And, based on comparison to past years, do you guys think they will be able to get through high priority list this year?

I kinda doubt that they will get through all of the high priority, but I could be wrong. I really wish that they would though.

I dont think they've gotten all the way through the whole high priority since at least 2006. And, I read that, back then, they arranged the WL differently, with high priority meaning more then it does now ...

I think they did get through some sections of the HP list last year, female in-staters i think ... it also looks like OOS moved faster in 07 and IS faster in 08, so i guess it varies. I agree, this year looks like IS has been a better bet so far, but who knows, SDN is a small sample.

Hard to say our chances ... Im guessing at least half the WL movement will be over by the end of this week ... maybe 1/3 of our remaining list will get accepted eventually. I obviously have no info, just my guess based on the last two years' WL threads that Depakote posted links to ...

if the rankings are in concrete numerical order, then i totally agree with you. however, if names are simply tiered within the priorities then sending a LOI in may not be fruitless. one of my interviewers suggested i keep updating the admissions office while on the waitlist. again, i have no clue as to how exactly the waitlist works at UT, but i just figured sending my LOI couldn't hurt my chances. anyway, hopefully everyone still on the WL hears good news soon! :xf:

My daughter was accepted a month ago, on Friday, we received a letter via snail from UT Financial Aid requiring additional verification. While it appears that they are processing financial aid now and someone being accepted now may not have to wait a month before receiving any information about their aid, you may have to submit the additional verification before your aid is granted. To help expedite the process, if you have not already completed their requirements, you may want to be proactive and send the verifications now instead of waiting for their additional request.

You should or will soon receive an email instruction about how to set up your UT account and your Rocket Number. You'll need your Rocket number to complete their Verification Worksheet which can be found online at http://www.financialaid.utoledo.edu/PDFFORMS/2009-2010/2009-10 Verification Worksheet.pdf . They also need a signed Federal 2008 Income Tax Return and copies of your W2s and 1099s. The submission instructions and address are on the verification worksheet.

My daughter has been waiting for her financial aid award to secure housing. I wish we would've known about this requirement weeks ago. Hope this helps someone avoid the wait that we've had.
