to those who haven't received a status update...were you up for consideration back in October?

to those accepted, are you in state and when did you interview?

I was accepted, OOS, interviewed second week of November. Received message that the committee had met to discuss me a week or two after interview then got accepted yesterday.

anyone know the best way to send status updates to VCU ? email ? snail mail ?

So I saw on the VCU status update website that there are no interview slots available. Does that mean they are done offering interviews for the most part? Or have they just not opened up some of the later dates yet? I have had the "MAY be unable" message for about a month but still holding out hope for an interview...

did your message about the committee having met to discuss you mention that you are in a hold status and will hear later on? meaning, did you get the same message that we,the hold status people, (see above posts) got?

It means that they will only have slots as people cancel their interviews. It's on the tail end of their scheduling.

Hey guys anyone who interviewed for the MD/PhD program at VCU hear back yet? The administrative assit. said they were meeting on the 16th and would send responses either that day or the next. I was just wondering if anyone heard.

What information do you have that no one else has to corroborate this statement?

People have been saying they are running out of slots for 2 months now. From what I've seen, they open slots when they invite a batch of applicatnts to interview.

Look at the status check website, it says right there that "The VCU School of Medicine currently has no interview slots available. A new message will be posted if new interview slots open. The seven day rule will not apply for those who have tried to schedule an interview unsuccessfully due to lack of space."

i'm not 100% about this, but when there are no slots call the office. the lady will set you up with a different time. if anyone gives up a slot on jan 14th or any monday/wednesday in jan much appreciated if you could pm me. thanks and good luck for everyone waiting. i waited for more than 2 months after being complete to get my 'may' message, then another 2 months to interview invite.

Got my response in case anyone was wondering!!! Best phone call ever! Good Luck to all of you guys! VCU is a great place! 😀😀😀

so does this whole 'no interview slots' message basically mean were screwed if we havent been offered an interview yet??

On the VCU status page, before you login. Its a mesage on top of the login box. 🙁

12/16/2008 The VCU School of Medicine currently has no interview slots available. A new message will be posted if new interview slots open. The seven day rule will not apply for those who have tried to schedule an interview unsuccessfully due to lack of space. 12/16/2008 The December 15, 2008 offers of admission were made and should have been available online after 6pm. Please check your online status with The VCU School of Medicine.

what's the preferred method of updates for VCU ?? I want to send an update letter but i'm not sure if i should email it or snail mail it.. any thoughts ??? Thanks !

i think they just ran out of interview invites, when they send out new interview invites in jan i think they will open up new slots. good luck to everyone still waiting

I am interviewing Feb 4th at 10AM. Is it possible to call the office and reschedule for an earlier date? I hope more Jan spots open up, following the holidays. Lastly, is a Feb. interview for a spot in the 2013 class or is it more for a waitlist spot? Thanks!

No, don't reschedule. I am gonna be there on Feb 4th as well!

VCU does not interview for waitlist spots. If you have an interview you will be seriously considered because they save a certain number of acceptance offers for each acceptance date.

i dont know... i remember calling a few weeks back and they said that they interview through the end of february and no later... and so if people on this thread are talking about february interviews, and the vcu status site says there are no more slots, i would guess that the rest of february is all booked as well. 😕

so unless theyre gonna open more slots in march/april, which im assuming they havent done before.....

🙁

I got an interview invitation about 2-3 weeks ago, and the earliest date I could choose from was March 3. I'm a little concerned about it being so late, but at the same time if they are offering more acceptances on March 15, maybe being later will allow me to be fresher in their minds?

At least that is what I'm telling myself to keep my hopes up 🙂 as a Virginia resident, I'm just praying for MCV to come through for me...

just got an interview invite today

previous status : committee would like to review your file further, blah blah blah.

Anyone willing to trade a Jan 28th interview (Wed) for a Jan 29th (Thurs) one?

Because of work/travel issues im really desperate to push back my interview a day.

haha can't hurt to try i guess?

does anyone know how long does it take to get to the airport from the school of medicine? and is there public transportation that does this? thanks.

~20 minutes. I just took a taxi when I interviewed 2 years ago.

I got the famous "MAY" message on Monday night, but I wonder whether there's any real chance of getting an interview, with slots so scarce. (I'm OOS.)

Oh this wait is suspenseful 🙁

But when I was at the interview, one of the tour guides said that the December acceptance batch was relatively small, whereas the February acceptance batch was much bigger. So they told us to not worry if we didn't hear back right away in December (I interviewed in October) and that we'll probably hear by February. Hopefully that's true! 🙂

I'm really tired of being in this limbo-land. I would like to know early on if I'll need to (1) figure out something to do next year, and (2) if I'll need to prep for re-applying this summer, which means (3) I'll need to retake my MCAT soon... sigh.

I just got the following message. I assume this is essentially saying that i'm being rejected, maybe waitlisted if i'm lucky?

"The Admissions Committee has met to discuss your file. Your application is being placed on hold for action at a later date. We anticipate making offers October 15, December 15, February 1, and March 15.

You will receive no further communication from us concerning your hold status. The next status change will be to offer you a position in the class, to notify you that you have been placed on the alternate list in mid-March, or to notify you that the Committee will no longer be considering your file.

We thank you for your interest in our school."

Read the thread.

All this message means is that your file has gone up in front of the admissions committee and you've been assigned a "priority score." VCU only releases acceptances on those particular dates, so that means on February 1st you could very well be accepted.

I got straight up REJECTED today (post interview). Honestly it's a shocker. There's not a chance I bombed my interview. I thought it could have gone better, but by no means did I do anything that would get me a rejection post-interview. I guess they didn't think I had what it took, in which case I'm not sure why they offered me an interview in the first place (I had the sub-committee message for lack of quality and quantity of medical experiences before I sent an LOI). No big deal. Although I really wanted to be a part of the inner-city preceptorship program.

🙁 Really sorry to hear that.

Oh no! I thought they weren't gonna announce decisions until feb 1... Sorry to hear that though 🙁 how did you find out?? Status change email?

Yeah. I thought it was going to be the wait and see email, but obviously not.

Does that normally happen to people that are rejected by VCU (getting the rejection before the date batches of decisions are sent out)? How does a mistake like that happen...

Yes, it does normally happen that way.

Looking back, I said something really dumb at my interview...

Interviewer: "do you prejudge people?"
Me: "Umm, no. I don't think so...?"

Arghhh :-/ Haha it's not that I don't think I don't - I'm sure most people do - but at the time, for some reason, I was caught off-guard with such a direct question that I was like umm I guess it would be bad if I said I did prejudge people? ::let me think what they want to hear:: Oh that was bad.

Meh, maybe that's why they didn't decide on me by December 15th... But one can still hope.

Yes, it does normally happen that way.

so does this mean that the people that received the message stating that a final decision will be sent on october 15, december 15, etc. are guaranteed an acceptance or waitlist?

Hm, I thought the term "final decision" included rejections. So I assumed they periodically sent out rejections, while they give even more rejections on those dates in addition to other final decisions... but not sure why they'd do that - unless they're being "nice" and letting you know if you're not accepted as soon as they can so that you don't keep waiting for so long. 😳
