This is the e-mail I received from the admissions office:

"Due to budget cuts, we will be unable to hold a Second Look program this year. HOWEVER, we will have a Virtual Second Look, which will be awesome, and that will come out within the next few weeks. All accepted students will hear something about it soon.

interviewed 11/2. been on hold since. good luck to everyone else (who has been waiting for awhile) on march 15/16!

i love how they used the word awesome! yeah bring on march 16th!

Bahadur, did you apply to VCU, too? Hehe

yes i am following you teehee lawls jk .

No but seriously, i was absolutely blown away by VCU. I feel honored to even be considered by them. What did you think?

oh btw, i totally am dreading next Monday. I dunno how many more waitlists (and/or rejections) i can handle.

I had a positive impression of VCU. What caught my eyes the most was how friendly the students were. I stayed for 3days with my sister's bf, and he took me out for food and drinks. I also hung out with his friends. They were all very chill and genuine. I feel like if it is between GW and VCU (If I'm so fortunate to have such a decision), then my final choice is going to be uber tough. Both are equal in reputation. Ionno, I would feel honored at both places!

GW
+ DC (Foggy Bottom, Dupont Circle, Georgetown)
+ Volunteer/Research opportunities with various federal agencies and NGOs
+ Student atmosphere
+ Board score and match (not so much a big factor, since it's more of an individual achievement)
+ Diverse patient population
- Cost
- Traditional curriculum (long class hours)
- Probation (it will get resolved and could better improve the education/experience at GW)

VCU
+ Students (super chill!)
+ Dr. Costanzo's board prep
+ Diverse patient population
+ Shortened classroom time
- Richmond (not a bad city, just not the best)
- Cost for OOS

Sushi, i completely agree with everything you wrote. Going in, GW was my first choice no questions asked, but VCU really made me step back and evaluate everything. It's too close of a tie for me to make a decision if i had the great fortune of having a choice. *sigh* one can dream eh?

Rooting for you Bahadur.

Thanks Sushi... at this point i think i'll take anything that's thrown my way. Waiting is great character building and all... but it'd be nice to have some idea of where you will end up in a couple of months.

Good luck to you too. There is no doubt in my mind that you will kick butt wherever you choose to go this Fall. :luck:🙂:luck:

Where are some of you guys getting March 16th for final acceptances? The last status update says that they will notify us on March 15th.

Well 3/15 is a Sunday. There was supposed to be an update Feb 1 (also a Sunday), moved to Feb 2. There were also some applicants, earlier in the thread, who posted that they were probably going to change it to 3/16, due to the Sunday status...

Where can you find MCV step 1 performance information?

Where can you find MCV step 1 performance information?

Like many schools, they keep that close to their chest. Current M2s and up know it but I won't post it on the board since they choose not to post it on the website.

not to be a pessimist (although, i did get 3 waitlist news this week... sigh) but anyone think that if we interviewed way back in october and bypassed all of the notification dates, we're in for another waitlist news? (not good enough to have been accepted already, but not terrible enough that we're taken off the consideration)

hm maybe not. im really really REALLY hoping for the best. vcu is my last hope for an acceptance this cycle.

Keep up hopes. Even if you get waitlisted it's not over; I was accepted 3 weeks before classes start in 2007, but I know that it would feel much, much better to just be flat out accepted so GOOD LUCK Monday.:luck:👍

What's the consensus - tonight at 6:00 or tomorrow night at 6:00?

For the february 1st acceptances, they posted an update on the application status page saying that they wouldnt be out until feb. 2nd. So far they havent done that this time around, so i wouldnt be surprised if they come out tonight.

Do any of you know whether there are still spots remaining in the class? Or is this pure waitlist/rejection we're (as always) waiting for tomorrow?

There will be acceptances given out tomorrow. They said during interview that they give out 50 at a shot.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow!!! :luck::xf::luck:

eek. i'm already feeling sick to my stomach. better start bracing myself. *activates stoic powers* hahaha.

Does anyone know if VCU is still sending out OOS acceptances? Also, will everyone get an update, just some will be acceptances, some waitlists, and some rejections?

Rejections are given out automatically. Everyone will either get accepted or WLed today AFAIK. Also, they are giving acceptances out, period. After the 15th, the OOS and IS Wait Lists are given spots based on who turns down an offer.

hahahahahaha no!

HAHAHAH DRATS!!! You caught me.

I realized after posting that time zones don't apply to the internet lmfao.

I've been watching too much LOST and getting my real time all mixed up hahaha. Oh and lack of sleep does wonders i'm sure.

Anyways after this i wouldn't be surprised if i got a rejection. Pretty much expecting it.

Well the good news is that today there will be no rejections - just acceptances. They may reject a few when they form the waitlist in the coming days, but that will still be a small subset of the remaining folks.

ahh only a few more hours!!!! Can't take it anymore!!! Best of luck to everyone!

hmm, thanks Chimp. Do you mind if we ask how you like VCU/MCV?

I love it. I like the schedule in the first two years, where you only go to class four hours out of the day (with occasional afternoon obligations thrown into the mix). Richmond is a surprisingly cool city. Before moving here, I would never have thought I'd like living here so much. It's small enough to be bike-able, and the cost of living is low enough that you can live very close to campus. I live only a mile away in a nice place, paying far less than I was paying in the suburban hell of Northern Virginia from where I came. The education we're getting in the first year is solid, which I'd expect from anywhere, and I'm looking forward to the customized board prep offered by Dr. Costanzo next year.

If you have any specific questions, I'd be happy to help.

you're right- i think no rejections today... my interviewer said that you'd have to do something pretty awful during your interview to warrant a rejection without a waitlist first.

i don't know about everyone else but i am a bundle of nerves!!! i'm expecting a waitlist, but there's a glimmer of hope in my the back of my head for an acceptance-- i absolutely love this school. good luck to EVERYONE!!!!

Ditto!

Good luck everyone!!! :luck::luck::luck::xf::luck::luck::luck:

Sorry if this has been asked/answered before...do they rank their waitlist and tell you where you are on it?

👍 So far, it's been really helpful. It certainly takes the guess work out of things since she plans out everything for you. Although June 20th is getting closer and closer:scared:

You think it's worth trying to do any board prep this summer?

Good luck to you on step 1!

Nope, rest or you'll regret it during M2. Just start reading your board review books along with your classes as soon as M2 starts. And as Dr. Costanzo always says, the best board prep is doing well in your classes so that when it comes time for review, it's actually a review.
