Haha nice, you may just be...I only lived in the Phoenix area for a year during elementary school, before we moved to Minnesota for a couple years. Bit of a shock, really. I think you'll be better prepared for Boston 🙂 So does that mean you are a UofA fan and not ASU?

haha....better prepared for the city of Boston? or BU academically? and yes....i'm a fan of U of A.....completely biased to it.....both in terms of it having superior athletics and academics to that of ASU...which is just a fact lol.

Cap'n, I wouldn't worry. If you go back several pages to the January acceptances, there were several in the Boston area that received their packets after some on the West Coast!

You are never out of the running until you have the effing rejection in your hand (or inbox).

I work in a large academic institution similar to BU. I frequently have to send out letters to study participants and the like, so I can tell you from experience that when you put something "in the mail" it really is hard to judge when it will escape the clutches of the institution. If everything was to run more smoothly, I might actually have money in my bank account from travel reimbursement... and the mail system is the same way.

Don't fret over something that someone might have heard from someone who heard from someone else on the adcom. Just typing that was confusing!
:xf:

Thanks to both of you for the encouraging words. and royal, the logical part of me knows that you are 100% correct, but the neurotic med school applicant in me will probably just continue to spaz out uncontrollably until all of this is over...until then i'll just continue with my regularly scheduled activities...
:boom:

I take it that it is up to each individual interviewer's discretion to call the accepted students?

In other words, a lack of a phone call does not signify bad news, and that we don't really have any way to tell until they decide to post the updated status?

Correct. And correct.

I don't understand why, since the decisions have obviously already been made, they haven't told us yet. Its like they're deliberately trying to torture us. Not cool BU.

I'm so tempted to call my interviewer...... His number is on his BUSM webpage....

I really can't take this wait any more. It's becoming extremely unhealthy.

I would consider calling, or maybe just emailing. The worst they can say is either that you didn't get accepted or that they can't tell you, right?

I think it's more that they either tell you that you were not accepted or they tell you nothing and don't respond to the e-mail. They are allowed to tell us if we are accepted or else these random calls from interviewers wouldn't be happening.

My stomach hurts 🙁

I guess that's what I meant... the interviewer saying they can't tell you would mean you didn't get accepted.

Such unnecessary stress 🙁 when they can update the status page. I almost feel there should be a thread devoted to 'interviewers who will/may call' so we can check off names/initials as a means to alleviate the stress load for next years applicants haha

Somebody wanna call the admissions office and just ask when decisions will be released. You don't even need to give your name. I got no cell service at work and I can't really dial out.

So I've never posted, but we're all hanging by a thread here. I'm at BU Med Campus now (GMS student).

I just walked into the admissions office and asked about decisions...The secretary said, "Within the week." I also asked if the letters were already in the mail. She said, "No, within the week."

Just wanted to post that info - it sucks, but maybe it helps knowing that we have more waiting to do. The past few days have been pretty torturous.

i realize how useless this question is since any answer would probably just be speculation, but did the secretary mean "within the week" as in the end of the business week?...like, tomorrow??!! or did she mean "within a week" as in within a week from today?

strange. my interviewer called me on the 30th and told me mine is already out in the mail and on its way.

I am as anxious and turned off as you fine gents and gals.

But I do not think calling or pushing is going to help matters. I would shy away from that. We should settle and handle ourselves cooly.

Just my 2 cents. Best of luck team. 🙂

Within the week as in tomorrow or within the week as in the 8th? They need to send out an e-mail to everyone explaining what's going on. I think that would ease the tension a little. My productivity at work has exponentially decreased due to my sporadic freak outs. 🙁 I've already apologized to my coworkers. I feel sorry for them.

Yeah, I know, right? I remember reading that, but then I didn't get anything in the mail today.

And as far as what "within the week" means - I'm tempted to speculate, but I feel like anything is possible at this point. I think I am going to stop holding my breath though.

+1 ... I also feel sorry for my happy hour friends

Okay so I gave in... I couldn't deal with the suspense and tension any longer and I e-mailed my interviewer. :scared: I hope it was the right move...

I was very nice and polite when asking if I made the cut... Hopefully he will answer me and I will finally be put out of my misery!!!!

however, I am a little scared... :scared:

Hey guys,
Just to perhaps pass on some hope to a few people out there, I got in in January through snail mail, several days after people first got calls (and still a day or two before status updates changes online). My interviewer was Dr. Fujii by the way. Good luck to those still waiting!

Oh I just meant better prepared for the weather in Boston than I was for Minnesota after living in AZ. There's no question that you're prepared academically..BU offered you a spot, after all! Haha well I'm glad to hear it, I've been watching UofA basketball (with my entire family) since I was a little kid.

I have a random question, were the acceptances delivered via snail mail just letters or was it a bigger envelope with other stuff in it?

Whoa!!!😱

Ballsy, if I do say so myself. Do make sure to let us know how it goes...if you live to tell about it. 😉

You have my condolences if your interviewer's response is something to the effect of "Patience is very important in a doctor. So my response to you is 'not anymore'."

I do agree that patience is very important in a doctor.... and so is conviction and courage! I e-mailed him just like I could e-mail the admissions office... the difference is that he is actually in the position to answer me straight forward.

I think it would be rude if I called, like some ppl suggested (although they were kidding)...

This waiting is making me a very anxious person and that's why I decided to "take my future into my own hands"... I will let you know though the outcome... it may be that he won't even reply... we shall see..

I agree it's very ballsy! And I'm inclined to believe that your interviewer won't be changing the decision (even if he wanted to, not really his decision)...so good luck! Hope you get some awesome news back.

I remember hearing a story when I applied to undergrad of some smart high school applicants who hacked into the Harvard system just to see if they were accepted. And if I remember right, their acceptances were rescinded. So lets cross that out as an option.

I'm pretty sure they were just emailing to find out and not talking about hacking any system unless I missed a post above in the flood of posts. But wow that's hardcore. People need to not be so desperate.

I wasn't suggesting they were thinking that. But this thread just reminded me of that story.

hmph. anyone get anything in the mail? i'm in CT and if things were mailed out on the 30th, it MIGHT've gotten here by now? (although I'm not too sure how fast the postal service is exactly). how about people in boston that've been accepted recently (or were accepted in january?) do you know if (or when) they mailed it and how long it took to reach your destination?

Well if you look above, the person who answered the phone there said that within one week they will be mailed. She or he might have meant that you'll get it in about a week, so maybe we should just leave it at this: when someone gets a packet in the mail, they can post that they got it/when and where they live. It seemed to work well in January!

please dont let us wait all through the weekend, i wanna wake up to a nice status update tomorrow :xf::luck:

Think they'll be sending waitlist emails today?

All of this stressing out for nothing...I wish we had known that earlier 🙁

yeah, a simple email announcing a delay in status changes would have been great. 🙁

at this point i am genuinely curious what, exactly, they are waiting for...

just called them, the lady said sometime next week

Just don't get it really.
"Hey guys, we have your acceptances/waitlists/rejections. We were actually required to report these to AAMC yesterday. So, yeah, they're all electronic by now. Oh...you want them? Nah, we'll just hold onto them for another week. Why? I don't know. Sh*ts and giggles? "

They might be sitting in their pajamas with coffee and danishes watching SDN's BUSM 2009-2010 thread and laughing - projected up on the screen they used for Witzburg's speech. At least I hope so, because I would love to be in Boston doing that next year

mdeast is almost at 1,000 posts (currently 998) 😎

Just received an email from Dr. Phillips congratulating me on my acceptance to BUSM! 🙂 So if anyone was wondering she has started contacting her interviewees.

Best advice right now is to just wait it out. Another week isn't going to kill you and any action you take to pester interviewers/office of admissions probably won't get you any new information and at worst will be a mark against you.

Good luck everyone!

OMG. I post way too much. Darn incubation times at work...plus my OCD about checking SDN. Can't wait til this process is all over and I DON'T feel the need to post here any longer.

Love you all though! 🙂
