Well at least I'm in Utah for the time being and anticipating 8-14" of fresh powder on those same days. Something to keep my mind off the wait. 👍
 
Really? Come on people, you could be classmates next year. Judging someone based on their sdn posts is ridic. Lets grow up a bit before med school.

No, I don't think you understand. PhiAlpha is a troll. See above post. It's just annoying. He's already fakely announced he received an early acceptance from Cornell back in December...which was a clear lie. And he posts the same message in 10 threads.

Who cares? This is a forum to discuss medical school admissions...and PhiAlpha thinks its OK to post false messages that mislead applicants to believe decisions have already been released. I'm sorry, yes, that makes him a douchebag in my book. No lack of maturity involved on my part.

You still don't understand. PhiAlpha has been doing this for MONTHS. This isn't a one time thing. But, anyway, it doesn't matter. Real matter at hand: decisions soon please. I'm anxious of the response...even though it's most likely a waitlist.
 
Regardless of if PhiAlpha is actually awaiting a decision, you two both are and might end up in the class of 2014 together, so let's just get us a big group hug in here (but keep posting, it's convenient for me when the Columbia page is at the top :laugh:).

no...intentionally posting a fake acceptance before decisions go out, like phialpha did on cornell, in order to make people think they didn't get accepted, is an objectively awful thing to do. We all know how much emotional investment everyone has in these decisions, which we've been waiting on for months. that just goes well over the line

well, I just look and I believe last year someone in the general area up there (NJ, i think) got something on 3/4, which must have been a year ago tomorrow...

Anyway, there is a possibility things could have gone out today and tomorrow, so I guess the wait is not too much longer :/

I was in NYC this weekend and dropped by yesterday and the nice lady at the desk whose accent I absolutely love was folding letters. There was also a stack about a foot high of what I'm guessing were rejection letters. Hopefully my name was not on one of those. She said that I should hear from them this week so I'm assuming that goes for almost everyone else as well. She said all decisions were going out: acceptance, rejection, waitlist.
 
Thanks for that post - good to know! Now I am going to try to just not think about it and get some dinner.
 
Well, good luck everybody. Wait list or not at least we'll all be one step closer to figuring out where we'll be for the next four years within a few days.
 
I actually talked to them on the phone today and they said that because of the snow and all they're running behind a few days and haven't mailed anything yet. Sounded like they will mail decisions later this week.

Can mmmcdowe verify or invalidate this claim? Seems to be inconsistent with what other people have said.

Haha it's hard for me to imagine that snow can slow down such a fast paced city such as New York much. I remember living downtown and the snow being wiped off the roads pretty much as soon as it fell.

Or maybe this has more to do with the fact that Columbia likes to take its time...like most other medical schools...

Though I guess I don't mind it. The decision is going to be the same whether I get it this week or next.

for some reason this just sounds like an answer they would give to just get the kid off the phone and stop calling...like a "we'll do it when we do it, and we don't need to be subject to your call schedule" type thing...I also have a hard time believing NYC would be significantly slowed, and the post a few above this clearly states they were packing letters on monday already

Yep, those were the pre-interview rejection letters, or as they were referred to "the not good ones."

Also true. Many of the members of the office and adcom live outside of the city, which makes it quite treacherous for them the travel in bad weather. There have been several days where the office was closed (including interviews) because of bad weather.

Validated. Those were pre-interview rejection letters for anyone they did not or do not intend to interview. Don't have to wait to start making them (and after all, those take forever considering there are thousands so they might as well get started early).



Unfortunately I didn't have any excuse to visit the admissions office today so I can't tell you guys if all the letters had disappeared. I would assume no, but it is possible if they are just sending them in bunches rather than worrying about all acceptances at once. If I had to gamble I would say tomorrow would be the day they go out assuming the adcom meeting on Monday went well. If they say you'll receive them by the end of the week you will 🙂 (unless you live in a really difficult to reach place). And no, you can't call to check on your status once letters have been sent. 😉

"Happened" to walk by the admissions office just now. Saw some letters sitting there (which doesn't necessarily mean that acceptances aren't going out). There were in the this envelopes. I personally don't remember a thick acceptance packet, but it was mentioned from last years forum that at least some of them were.

well considering that everyone "walking by" the office has only seen thin envelopes my guess is the thick ones are on their way out, with the first ones arriving tomorrow :luck:

yeah last years thread was crazy-since everyone else has been letting this thread lag down to the second page (how insulting!), i decided I would try to maintain composure 😛

Zero confidence from my likely waitlist/rejection from Cornell yesterday...so my hopes for Columbia are even lower. Le sigh. I hate waitlists....

don't give up hope! this process is so random that you can't draw on a decision from one school as a reflection of what will happen some place else...i've had pretty unexpected decisions in both directions during this process and realize that there's no predicting anything. good luck!!

If it makes you feel better, Columbia and Cornell have pretty different selection criteria. I was rejected from Cornell, as were a number of my friends.
 
Also rejected from Cornell. We've gotta keep the faith!

This process is so emotionally draining. I want to have a drink and it's not even noon.
 
bfaria i'll take you up on that drink lol! also waitlisted by cornell but still holding onto hope for columbia... it's only a tiny speck of hope but hey

Every time I look and see that someone has posted on this thread my heart jumps. I don't even know why I bother checking I am 99.9% sure a thin envelope is headed my way! bah this is no fun!

are we even sure things went out and should be arriving today? lol

lets not get too hasty benny, as far as I'm concerned, as much as I would love for y'all to be right about this stuff, its still speculation...the only thing that could make me feel sure is if mmmcdowe told us specifically he talked to someone in the office and they def went out
