are we even sure things went out and should be arriving today? lol

lets not get too hasty benny, as far as I'm concerned, as much as I would love for y'all to be right about this stuff, its still speculation...the only thing that could make me feel sure is if mmmcdowe told us specifically he talked to someone in the office and they def went out

Yeaaaa it was jumping yesterday when I knew full well nothing was coming too. Can't help the nerves! CAN help keeping this page open while at work...but prefer to drive myself completely nuts with anticipation.

agreed-I have a class right now where I'm going to be taking notes on my laptop-I am sure that I'll keep this stupid thing open and only be paying 50 percent attention :meanie:

Dont you just love that feeling. I am having a hard enough time studying for an exam today!! I was hoping I'd hear before the exam haha.

/bump for the nerves

Anything yet??? GAHHHH the anticipation. I think my friends are getting sick of me talking about how much i want that letter.

I think we should all contribute a little money to mmmcdowe for him to camp outside the admissions office and live-blog what's happening.

Wow we're sad guys 🙂

I really want someone to post about their acceptance letter arriving so I can get all freaked out when I come home and don't have anything.

do you all think the first acceptances will be received only in the NYC area, or does the whole east coast have a shot? :xf:

i would think it will take a day longer at least for the whole east coast...i'm in NJ only an hour-ish outside the city though and crossing my fingers that USPS moves quickly enough to get it here the same time as NYC...

i'm definitely contemplating running home from work to see if my mail has even arrived

Since there are about a million and one people watching this thread right now (to be specific- 72 😱) and I know everyone would appreciate some information from Admissions-land-- I bring to you the following from my contact with admissions earlier this morning (sorry I didn't post this immediately on SDN 😳):

Decision letters are being mailed out throughout 3 days. Some went out yesterday, some will go out today, and the rest will go out tomorrow.

Take it for what it's worth, it is what I have been told.

nothing in the mail for me today (phone call from family), from the ny metropolitan area (outside NYC)...

hope its not a bad thing :/

Good to know. I'd imagine that acceptances were mailed yesterday and today so that most people will get them either tomorrow or Saturday.

When do you think WL/Rejections will be mailed? Can anyone tell of those of you who read last years thread?

it's good that they're coming friday or saturday. i plan to drink myself stupid either from the happiness of being accepted or from the disappointment of not getting in. whatever happens, i'm getting drunk. t-g-i-almost-f

Seems like last year they mailed out good news first and bad news later.

I could be wrong though.

i thought it was just that good news gets express shipping while bad news gets standard first class... either way looks like some good news should be coming either today (probably not likely) or tomorrow!

Yeah, express shipping would come next day, so people would hear today or tomorrow.

But do we really think they ponied up the $18 to ship acceptances express?

Hey all,

I'm one of the many watching this thread, but I'm out in CA and I doubt I will hear anything from Columbia today. I'm hoping that everyone who posts acceptance news can also include their state or geographic region so that we can track the progress of the letters. I have grown to hate the West Coast waiting game for snail mail East Coast schools!!

Also, I'm in the waitlisted at Cornell club, and I'm hoping that mmmcdowe is right about the different selection criteria! I love P&S.

Thanks, and good luck to everyone.

95 people viewing this thread! 😱

Good luck folks! I'm in the city and I will let you know when I receive something*. be it a rejection, waitlist, or the other thing...

*Edit: maybe not immediately depending on other obligations but I'll share.

Hello everyone! This is my first post ever on these forums, and I'm waiting to hear back from Columbia as well. Anyway, I called the admissions office and a lady told me today that they're using regular mail for the letters. Here's hoping to get them sooner rather than later...

This thread be-a-rocking, but please come-a-knocking (assuming you hear something).

Eh regular mail is still fast. My landlord lives in Manhattan...W 57th street, and she gets my rent check just as quickly if I priority mail it, as if I send it with a 44 cent stamp. (I.e. usually 2 days). I live Philadelphia btw. So if they were shipped out yesterday...they should arrive around Manhattan today...and other NE cities tomorrow....West Coast Saturday and beyond. That's my guess.

An adcom member mentioned today that letters have indeed been shipped. He didn't specify the day but all decisions have been mailed according to him. I don't know about the all general post thing, I saw some big envelopes in the office though they might have been for another purpose.

I prefer paypal by the way, but I accept all major forms of american currency.

Dude I'm seriously considering it. Your advice has been indispensable throughout this process.

Just talked with the nice lady in the admissions office, who said that acceptances are going out Priority ("2 Day" speed according to the USPS, but she couldn't tell me when they would arrive), and didn't say anything about WL/reject, so I would assume that means by regular mail.

I stand corrected...seems like your nice lady was nicer than mine 🙂

Hmmm you can't check to see who got in? 😍 A couple of friends of mine attending an unnamed Top 10 school found out who among students from their alma mater were accepted before decisions were sent out last year. I know it does happen.

I have a feeling I'll get my rejection/waitlist tomorrow given that I live 4 subway stops from Columbia...

Hi guys, I live in NYC- pretty close to Columbia - I'll let you know when I hear anything- nothing arrived today.

OK, I'll be the crazy/nosy one to ask.

Big envelope? Small envelope? Postmark date?

BIG envelope! Was inside a priority mail envelope that took my brother like 5 minutes to open.

Not sure of the postmark date. Didn't ask (letter was opened by my bro while I was on the phone with him). Probably yesterday.

SO! STOKED!

Let me know if you guys have any more questions!

FYI: I didn't have ANY correspondence with Columbia post-interview.

In shock right now!

permanent address
i emailed the admissions office a few weeks ago and they told me all letters would be mailed to our preferred addresses. so does this mean my parents will know that i got waitlisted before i do? awesome

well as if the stress wasn't high enough, i just looked at my secondary and realized i have a blatant mis-spelling in the first sentence...i think this is a sign

So I received a notice that a school had requested a background check for me on March 1... maybe P&S...? fingers crossed
