The committee is meeting tonight to decide on the people who interviewed on my day.. My head is going to pop off waiting for tomorrow. :boom:

I want FSU SO. BADLY.

Sorry. I needed to vent before I did something that made my coworkers think I'm crazy 🙂
:xf: :xf: :xf:

lol i love the head exploding gif so much!

Good luck to you!!

I did the same.

It'll surely be a long day but good luck. My advice? Get off SDN for a little. I went crazy on the 15th waiting to hear, refreshing every minute to see if anyone had gotten in yet. FYI they updated my status page hours before they emailed.

Did they really? Were you accepted? (Forgive me if you already posted that). Now I'm going to be checking my status every 10 seconds! haha!

Yes and yes. Sorry, I didn't even think about constantly checking that

Does anyone know if the status on the website ever changes?? for example, if you are not selected for an interview, or the opposite, or it just continues to say "application under review" until the end of the cycle?
Also is FSU starting to send rejection letters or do they just wait until the end of the cycle to send you something?
Thanks

I dont think they even rejected anyone outright, unless you have no business going to medschool. they will wait til the end of the cycle and send you an email. IF NO INTERVIEW INVITE BY MARCH, then mostly likely you will not get an interview.

USF also does this from personal experience 🙁

I GOT IN!

I GOT IN!!!!!

(Found out via status page before a phone call or e-mail...)

I GOT IN!!!!

:soexcited::banana::highfive:😍:biglove:

Had a feeling you'd be stalking that page. Congrats and enjoy your day!

Haha, that is totally your fault.. It's a little strange because I still haven't GOTTEN the phone call or e-mail.. So of course I'm being SUPER neurotic and my mind keeps racing to "what if they updated the wrong status page? What if they don't mean it?" lol.. Oh man.

👍 You're not alone in your neuroticism, I rechecked the status page every hour until I got the confirmatory email (at 4pm). It was in part to savor the words over and over, and in part to make sure it wasn't some cruel joke and a new status didn't show up saying "Sorry, we made a mistake and you're actually rejected. Bet that sucks, huh?"

Haha, awesome.

are you definitely going there?

Congrats SAM! FSU is a really great school!!!

I know there is a form for this, but I want to ask the current applicants what you guys think:

I have a 3.3 GPA overall, 3.0 science and a 30O MCAT (w 10's across the board). [Strong EC's, good letters, great PS, significant research experience with a primary authorship on the way]. I know my chances are grim anywhere, but what do you guys think my chances are at FSU med specifically? Have you heard of them accept a range of applicants or do they not deviate much from their averages?

I'm really glad people are having good experiences with tours and interviews. Our students are genuinely excited and love the school. I wish I could say that is the same with other schools, but I know for a fact that isn't true. Many of my friends at the "better" schools in Florida are actually quite miserable and have told me they wished they went somewhere else. I haven't really ran into that negativity here at all. We all whine about stuff but we also love the school and are happy where we are, or at least I am.

Finally got the e-mail!! I guess I wasn't good enough for a phone call.. lol.

So, I really doubt that this will become an issue, but it's possible to hold multiple acceptances until May, right? I'm 99% sure I'm going to FSU, but I also want to ride out the rest of the cycle since I didn't know how much I loved FSU until I went there.

Haha, awesome.

are you definitely going there?

I'm definitely leaning in that direction, it's pretty much gonna come down to whether I can find a decent research opportunity up there. I felt really good about the environment up there, and the "better" school in Florida (my alma mater) is down the pecking order because it lacks that, IMO.
Anyone (mp, smk,etc...) know if there's a second look weekend?

Sammich, you can hold as many acceptances as you like until May 15th. Just don't screw everyone on the WLs, especially since FSU starts so early.

Actually, I just asked FSU about this - you have to let them know by April 15th.

What are these "better" schools that you guys are referring to. I was under the impression that all Florida schools are pretty much the same.

Most of the schools in Florida aren't THAT old. UF is known as the "top" public med school in Florida. Basically, the thing that sets FSU apart is also what holds it back. We lack centralized hospitals and training programs. We're loosely affiliated with the family medicine program in tally and then have an ob/gyn program and what not, but really none of our own residency programs to speak of. It hasn't really hurt anyone so far from what I've seen, but can be something to factor in.

As far as research, it is very possible here. We are still a major university and there are plenty of research opportunities if you want them. As was told to us, they are not research focused and have just enough to attract faculty and offer something to students. It isn't a money making thing like many other schools. Many of those schools with large research programs don't necessarily translate to more research opportunities. They are seen as income opportunities in many cases. We have plenty of clinical and basic science stuff here to go around as well as other programs throughout the university. That being said, I know some people that were pretty hardcore into research before coming here and not even they are doing anything right now. It really isn't that important for most residency programs.

Im late but congrats anyway !!!!!

Thank you 🙂

And for anyone getting interviews or anything here - It is totally nothing to freak out about. They are really laid back and just want to get to know you, so make sure to show your personality! They're also super quick to get back to you.

Half of my interview was laid back. The second half was really quite intense and demoralizing. I wouldn't go giving a false sense of security. 😉

Intense, eh? I have an interview on November 2nd. I am sure this was previously asked, however, is anyone willing to provide a more detailed experience about their interview? Thanks in advance!

the interview feedback thread is really helpful for this. I'd look through those

It definitely CAN be intense. I remember my friend interviewed there last year, they asked him some of his GPA problems, and after he stated his reasons, the interviewer asked him "OK, so what were the REAL reasons?" So yea...getting called out during an interview can definitely be intense.

I had my interview last week and it wasn't as relaxed as everyone said. The first one felt like a conversation and she talked most of the time. My second interviewer asked me about the health care reform and ethical questions and then to relate the both so definitely be prepared for some tough questions. Overall though he was really nice and he told me a few times that he couldn't believe my grades considering my circumstances (working and personal issues) so it wasn't like he was trying to be mean. After going there for the interview, fsu is definitely one of my top choices! They said we could find out as early as Wednesday!!! Can't wait!:xf:

If you are trung tran I think I have seen you around USF. I think we might have had some classes together.

yes I am. I been at USF for a long time 😀 so we probably suffered through alot of classes

I'm not sure if anyone actually answered this...

Obviously I have no idea what the adcoms are really looking for, but I know that the feel I got from FSU is that they are more concerned with who you are as a person and making sure you can contribute something more than numbers to their class. I don't have the most stellar stats by far and they didn't seem too concerned with that. Good luck!!!! 🙂

Why are there only 3 of us? lol.

If you build it, they will come 😀

it takes time, its still every early people havent decided where to go yet and people are holding on to acceptances

Demoralizing?? What happened?

What was noted below. I had a pretty rough intro to college with lots of W's. I pretty much tanked my freshman year of college and learned how to study my sophomore year. By the time I was really rolling, I had so many credits it didn't matter.

My interview consisted of sitting down and some small talk with a slow opening of my folder. I then got a "Hmmmmm. We normally don't interview someone with as many W's as you." I had to inform him that at my undergrad, you got a W if you dropped the course after 3 weeks. Not halfway through the semester like here.

After the interview, which went OK (wouldn't say great), he put his hand on my shoulder and told me I'd probably be waitlisted until they saw my grades for the semester. That felt like the kiss of death since I was doing miserable in biochem and mediocre in other courses due to being gone for interviews all the time. I didn't fault the interviewer with anything. He's a very nice guy. Just a tough interviewer and very straightforward.

The facebook group will start filling up after winter break probably.

It worked out in the end 👍

For those who are re-applicants and had to interview twice- Did you guys had the same interviewers as last year or different ones?

Put on hold..... heart breaker. I thought my interviews went really well. I wonder how many people get in when they are put on hold?

There is a fair amount of movement. A lot of people surprisingly don't like FSU. It is unfathomable to me, but it happens. I know a few people that went here because it was the only place they were accepted and didn't want to go through the cycle again. They are happy now either way. That being said, I was accepted off the waitlist. One of the top students in our class was accepted during orientation week. I remember last year in May before they were beginning orientation feeling so depressed because I kept hearing about all these other people getting called up and I knew they were starting in a few days. I pretty much gave up hope until I got that call. It was probably the most exciting day of my life. I printed off the little confirmation paper and drove in, breaking a few laws along the way, to deliver the paper with my check. It was the happiest check I ever wrote. I then went and bought my license plate frame immediately afterwards and took a picture to send to my sisters and brother.

So yes, there is a fair amount of movement, especially within Florida where we have so many schools and the stellar applicants get accepted at near every school in Florida.

Who were your interviewers? Mine was the same way. One of mine was really nice, the other totally tore me down.

MossPoh--

Thanks for that. I am pretty bummed. I fell in love with the school, but unfortunately I may not have the luxury of attending if they wait until May to decide. I have a family and my wife will need to find work, so timing is important.

Do you know if they wait until a certain time to start accepting "Holds"?

For those who interviewed in Oct. or are going to in Nov., how long did it take between completion and interview invite?

It depends on circumstances. I've heard of people that were accepted off the waitlist as soon as their mcat score crossed a certain limit. Much of the movement begins after their required notification date though. As far as the wife thing. I've heard of people with similar circumstances and they simply moved up and started class and found a place while the spouse worked and did a bit of a job hunt. Loans and all that factor in family costs. While that isn't ideal, it is makes things possible. I've even known people that have had compromises where their spouse could only work in a certain town and they lived halfway inbetween. While it sucks, it is doable to drive over an hour, so one can increase the search radius if need be. The tuition relative to many other medical schools, especially after interest, makes up for a bit of time lost with employment as well. We are in the top 15 schools with regards to affordability for in-state residents.

Interview tommorow around this time. No Prep. Straight off the dome!

I had my interview Oct. 19. I was complete Sept. 28th and received the invitation for interview Oct. 4.

I am incredibly nervous, however, I am channeling that nervousness into motivation for better preparation. I hope I have the privilege of posting FSU C/O 2014 in a few weeks! The November 2nd interview is right around the corner!😀
